Black is the most misunderstood colour…the colour of authority and power…is to be free of debt. Black is also the colour of mourning, evil. Black is the colour of Sati. Sahara One's new show, Sati..Satya Ki Shakti (yes the catch-line says it all) is the journey of a victim who fights for her rights, challenges the decision of the court of law and attains justice. It is the story of an all women law firm who are fighting their personal and professional battles at home and at court of law. The show premieres on May 29th at 8 pm, from Monday- Friday.

Purnendu Bose, COO, Sahara One Television says, "Sati…Satya Ki Shaki is the story of today's changing times…where women are speaking up not only for themselves but for others as well. This show is yet another colour & feather in the cap of SaharaOne Television entertainment basket -Television Ka Naya Rang. This is a story about one woman's fight against the atrocities committed against other women. Above all, it sends out a message of hope that justice will prevail if women stand together in times of adversity."

The coveted script writer, Kamlesh Pandey, who has penned the story for the movie 'Rang De Basanti', has scribbled down the story for this show of Sahara One. He expresses his views on this soap, "SATI….Satya Ki Shakti is a meaningful subject which means the 'power of truth'. It's a unique concept on Indian television where the dividing line between fiction and reality almost disappears."

Percept Pictures Company produces this soap whereas Hemant Prabhu directs it, who has earlier directed many hits shows like Kundali, Kanayadan, Koshish Ek Asha and to name a few.

The lead protagonist Sati is played by the very gorgeous and charming lass - Manasi Salvi who has impressed the viewers by her strong roles including the marathi film Sari Var Sari for which she has won the state level award – Maharasthra Puraskar. After Aashirwad, Koi Apna Sa and Saarthi - Manasi is now Sati, a determined, headstrong lawyer all ready to take up relevant social issues and stand by them. The other star cast includes Sandeep Rajaura , Karan Mehra, Dimple Inamdar and Dimple Hirji.

Character sketches of SATI

Sati Rajdan (played by Mansi Salvi)

Sati the protagonist is a fighter. She is brave, intelligent, has perseverance, tenacity, and guts. She has a strong moral core, which cannot tolerate any injustice. While she is a tough fighter, she has not lost her feminity. Most women in her profession lose their softness and become emotionless and even insensitive. Not Sati. Her feminine side surfaces when she is with a man she loves, when she is with her younger sister Anu or when she indulges in gossiping with her colleagues. She is not nasty, but has a dry sense of humour, which she uses with lethal effect on her adversaries.

Siddharth Raichand (played by Sandeep Rajora_

He is a maverick - a star lawyer who has shifted from London. He is flamboyant, stylish, sporty and a tremendous charmer. He is a person for whom every case is a game. He fights each case because there is a challenge to push the limits of existing legal interpretations. He does not get into the morality of the cases, for him, the more difficult the case, the more challenging it is. He also has a great sense of humour.

This will be a case of opposites attracting, as Sati and Siddharth are drawn to each other by the strange forces of chemistry and destiny. A love affair, which Sati will try to resist, but the inevitable will happen.

Rajdeep Sikand (played by Karan Mehra)

He is the firebrand TV journalist who has captured the imagination of the public. He is the honest face of television journalism. His small town upbringing has given him a set of small town values. Although slightly introvert when it comes to women, he is a man who commands tremendous respect though through his silence and his withdrawn presence. He is the silent lover and a good friend to Sati. At some stage he becomes embroiled in a triangular love story with Sati and Siddharth.

Smriti Thaku (played by Dimple Hirji)

The 34-year old single mother of an illegitimate teenage daughter, SAKSHI, (12 year old) Smriti is still quite beautiful. But she lacks the confidence to trust any man after her boyfriend walked out on her when she became pregnant. Sakshi keeps trying to pair her mother with men, something that embarrasses Smriti. Finally, Sakshi's efforts bear fruit and Smriti becomes interested in a young, honest, brave cop and encounter specialist--Avdesh Singh. Smriti was a student of law, but switched to interior decoration after she delivered Sakshi because it paid better. However, after she joins 'SWAYAM', she is sometimes pitted against Avdhesh in court cases. So her love life and her new career are often in conflict.

Priya Das (played by Dimple Inamdar)

If she hadn't been a lawyer, she would have been a movie star. She is a seductress. She is sexy and sensual and sees everything in the light of sex (She is willing to go on a date with the lawyer of the accused if it helps her win her client's case against him). Her favorite pastime is her one-night stands. She is nicknamed 'man-eater' by the gang at 'SWAYAM'. Despite her other traits, she possesses a brilliant and analytical legal mind.

Mishal Madhvani

Barely out of her teens and a law graduate, Mishal is the daughter of Mona Madhvani, the Cosmetic Queen, celebrated internationally for her herbal range, which is quite the rage. Mishal is the 'Sania Mirza' of law and is being groomed by Sati. She joined the firm because she had become disgusted with the fake world of her mother's beauty products and was in search of a simple life. When she joins the firm, all the women take her under their wing and each teaches her their special skills.

So what are you waiting for, just tune into Sahara One on Monday, 29th May at 8.00 p.m. to watch Sati, who is a happy go lucky third year law student a stage where colours, fun and dreams make up the fabric of life.

First take on Sati Satya Ki Shakti
She's a daughter, she's a mother, and she's a sister; She's happiness, she's loyalty and she's virtue; She's a mirror that reflects your world. A world that is beautiful, a world so vivid, but the day this mirror ruptures, you blame her. Without understanding, it was never her fault. Without accepting she is the victim and not the culprit. That she was not responsible for the tragedy that crept in. And then you leave her all alone, fighting and struggling in a world, where her screams fall on deaf ears. And yet she emerges a winner, Sati.

Experience her struggle, her resistance, her toil and her victory. Sahara One Television invites you for an encounter with Sati Satya Ki Shakti, it's new offering which premieres on Monday May 29, at 8 pm. Every Monday to Friday convene through the different phases of a women's life. Played by Manasi Salvi, Sati is a happy go lucky third-year law student at a stage where colour's, fun and dreams make up the fabric of life. But one tragic turn, one act of rage she is raped by the very people she thought were her friends. The culprits walk free through a shameless miscarriage of justice helped by hostile witnesses. Sati's dreams tear apart, diffusing shades of black and darkness all around, her family distance themselves from her.

Here is where any other woman's life would cease. But Sati strives to fight back. Fight for justice and truth, for self -respect and dignity. Sati survives her ordeal, regains her health, completes her law education while recuperating emotionally and physically, and finally fights her own case. She decides to give the society, which had raped her identity and her beauty, a taste of her brains.

And wins. Her rapists are imprisoned so are the conspirators. She becomes a role model giving other women confidence and courage to fight for their cause. Realizing this fact with the support of other motivated women she establishes "Swayam", an all women law firm to voice the unheard stories pleading justice at the foot of law. It symbolizes victory and power, similar to what her dark stages exemplified in her life. Thus Sati always covers herself in black. It is this black from which she draws her strength to keep moving on and touching that extra mile to uncover the truth.

With honesty in her heart, Satisfaction in her mind Sati has everything that she ever hoped for. Except for the presence of her loved ones. This vacuum in her life leads to different turns and twists. These clearly reflect in her decisions and at different junctures of Sati's journey.

Who is Manasi
The Maharashtrian beauty with a smile of innocence on her face is not new to the small screen. Manasi Salvi has shows like Aashirwad and Koi Apna Sa and Saarthi to her credit. And now, she is Sati, the strong-willed lawyer in Sahara One Television's new show, 'Sati'. Educated in Holy Cross Girls Convent in Thane and Vaze College in Commerce, Manasi had her first brush with television when she was first seen in the ad for Vim bar, and at the age of seventeen she was already doing Aashirwad.

Dancing Bharatnatyam for 12 years and Kuchipudi for 2 years, Manasi has well balanced her acting schedules and studying. She owes the credit of completing her Masters degree in Commerce to the show directors and producers who encouraged her to study well and manage her acting schedules accordingly. Hence, the character of the lawyer Sati seems to be one most similar to her—with an erudite inclination. Besides the classical dance forms, Manasi is also well versed with more contemporary and western dance styles. Manasi has also done ads for Stic ball Pen, Shohan Tissues and Baidyanath.

Sari Var Sari , the Marathi film that won the Best Film award at the Star Screen Awards 2006 was Manasi's first brush with movies, and another Marathi film Aai Shapath is due for release in August. The issue of female foeticide is an issue she strongly feels about and this is due to the education on the topic she received while doing the serial Aatmaja on DD1 that was funded by Plan India. This conscientious actress is also an aerobics expert and you will see her dynamism as she does justice to the role of Sati, a character she feels she closely resembles.

Indiantelevision.com Team

(23 May 2006 11:00 pm)

MUMBAI: Sahara One Television has launched yet another new primetime show with a strong female protagonist. Sati… Satya Ki Shakti will be aired in the 8 pm slot from Mondays to Fridays from 29 May and will replace Buniyaad.

What's interesting here is that the story has been penned by Rang De Basanti writer Kamlesh Pandey and his team of writers. Sati… is about a victim of rape, who fights for her rights, challenges the decisions of the law and attains justice. The show revolves around an all women law firm who are shown to be fighting their personal and professional battles at home and in the court.

The show has been produced by Percept Picture Company and is directed by Hemant Prabhu.

Sahara One Television COO Purnendu Bose said, "Sati… Satya Ki Shakti is the story of today's changing times, where women are speaking up not only for themselves but for others as well. This show is yet another colour and feather in the cap of Sahara One Television entertainment basket – Television Ka Naya Rang. This is a story about one woman's fight against the atrocities committed against other women. Above all, it sends out a message of hope that justice will prevail if women stand together in times of adversity."

Pandey added, "Sati… Satya Ki Shakti is a meaningful subject, which means the 'power of truth.' It is a unique concept on Indian television where the dividing line between fiction and reality almost disappears."

Yet again, Sahara One has made an attempt to dish out something different from the staple TRP topping kitchen politics on Indian television. The channel's other shows with strong female protagonists include Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Haare Kaanch Ki Chuudiyan, Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai and the most recent – Suno… Harr Dill Kuchh Kehtaa Hai.

Mansi Salvi opts for a third daily!

Mansi Salvi adds one more show to her list of dailies! The actor who can be seen in Sahara's Sati and Saarthi on Star Plus will also be seen in Star's grand show Viraasat by Ravi Chopra. Viraasat goes on air June 12 of this month, and replaces Miilee.

" Sati is my priority!"
With two dailies on her plate, how will she be able to handle three dailies? To which, the chirpy actress said, " Sati is certainly my priority, and they haven't told me anything about my role in Viraasat as yet, so why think about the future!

Mansi's character has nothing new to offer, she plays a simple housewife. " I play Amarr's wife, that's Kunal Kharbanda. My character is very plain, and no shades as such," affirms Salvi. She continues, " I have shot only 10 to 12 episodes, so I don't have much to talk about. I have no clue what the future holds for me in terms of Viraasat."

Viraasat is in full swing! The show has a huge and promising star cast. So lets see if it suits the taste of the viewers who are clinging to saas bahu soaps!
