A THING OF BEAUTY- A ROSID OS BY ROSHNI
Siddhant's P.O.V
It was centuries back...The Mount Latmos was belled and flowered then. There in its top where the pine trees shed their shade was my little home...I was not Siddhant then...I was Endymion...A young shepherd...I had a good herd of sheep with whom I roamed through the forest throughout the day playing my flute. I had devotion for music and poetry and my life was filled with their glory ... I used to bath in the beautiful streams that descended from somewhere down the next hill...My nights were peaceful and being on the top of Mount Latmos. It seemed that I could touch the sky from there...On one such night, I met her...Nope she wasn't called Roli then...she was Cynthia, the moon goddess. Dressed in a white serene gown she stood in the sky spreading a smile that illuminated the whole world...Her eye brows were joined in to one and it was almost like the Cupid's bow for me... Her exquisite eyes were derived from the streamlined body shape of a fish; I guess...They smiled at me more than her enticing lips. To talk of her cheeks my poetry failed shamefully there. They were the most perfect creation of god I have ever seen...And her nose; it was a derivation of those cherries which grow in the valleys of Mount Latmos during the spring...Anyone would face a sudden pause if you try to describe her lips...Even the grooves and lines on them were luscious and magnetic. I was defeated and I surrendered myself before her enchanting charm. Yes, I fell in love with her...I needed her at any cost...Her smile was dragging me towards her...I thought how heavenly my life would become if she was with me...She was moving away from me...But I could never let her go...You can call it lust...But I need her throughout my life...I followed her...I was determined to bring her to my life...She smiled at me more and I gazed at her without a pause. She was equally charmed by me, but may be due to the rules of nature she was forced to move away from me. It was almost dawn and her face expressed a deep sorrow. We were near the sea now and I could see the horizon. She looked at me with her eyes filled with agony and slowly started descending in to the sea...She had to go, for Aaron, the sun god had to take her place. I could never let her go and I called out for her...but she continued her journey to the sea. Without a second thought I jumped to the bottomless sea to snag her. I know it would mark my end, but what life needs is a thing of beauty which can remain a beauty forever...
Writer's P.O.V
It was around midnight when Siddhant woke up from his dream all sweating and panting...Roli, his wife who was all the while in his embrace too woke up. She guessed that he had dreamt something. She moved to the bedside table and grabbed a glass of water. As she handed it over to him, he called her "Cynthia..." Roli couldn't stop laughing as Siddhant said this. She broke in to loud creaks of laughter. "Siddhantji...you saw that dream again wherein I'm Cynthia and you're Endymion. I must say Siddhantji...You've gone crazy reading all those Greek classics..." "Roli..." objected Siddhant. But she holds his shoulders and made him lie on the bed. She too lied down on the bed and rested her head on his chest. Siddhant too hugged her whilst his mind wandered elsewhere. This dream...it happened many times since he met Roli...What does this mean? he thought. Is their life the continuation of an unaccomplished love story of the past? Is their a life a gift from the almighty for the strongest love that continue to shed its light on the youth? He doesn't know...may be or not be...it can be his imagination as Roli says. Anyway Siddhant hugs his lady love in his embrace tighter and drifts off to sleep.
