I guess its just that sarojini feels indebted to mami that she doesnt protest much when mami goes around taking decisions for her or being cruel on her

I was fine with her being polite and showing gratitude when she was being mean to her but not defending or standing up to yourself when someone is physically abusing you is not done mami crossed the line there she should've been shown her place. Because when you don't stand up to yourself when someone's threatening your life means you do not value yourself and lack self respect.
