I think the aathma is a girl killed by meenakshi's mother or uncle. Meenakshi's mom and uncle knows about the aathma and the house (mess) belongs to them. And aathma told to meenakshi as palaya kanaku baaki iruku nu.. 2 times it tried to kill meenatchi. So some flashback must be there and the aathma wants to kill meenakshi to take revenge.

This is just my opinion..
