Arshi,
I wasnt here in the initial days. But did read the CB.
Kumud was quite confusing in the beginning. She was like, 'I am hurt because he said no and insulted my bapu by not telling him." Used to be stiff and have that serious face. Much later, it was still the same tune. She could hardly drop her guard. Fine, that was because she was a strong, stubborn girl with an ego. She was realisitic in a way.
But Saras brought out the contrast. He had a no to begin with but we could easily love in his eyes many a time. When Kumud wanted Saras to open up and accept her, I was like how did this happen.
Then, she was all over Saras and was so emotional in his love. Remember those engagement scenes and episodes.
When she did dahan samskaar of Saras's memories right before her marriage, that was sad to see at that time for me but when I look back it seems realistic for her to do.
What I liked about Kumud after her marriage was the honesty with which she approached in the beginning. That sachhaii. She could not have stood there if she was in two minds. It was simple. But what happened subsequently was stupid.
Kumud is a realistic character. High on ego. I agree the actor could have done better in romantic scenes.
But, I still dont think she takes Saras for granted now or thinks he is dispensable. She knows him well now and understands him better.
Compare their love for each other and Saras's is more endearing. His is on a higher plane. No strings attached.
I think this is his love story like you said. Predominantly. Others just fall into place. For one who had no one on his side, he has come a long way n is the backbone of Desais. Its all about Saras. Especially now.

Hmm, kya bolain?

Teen lafzon mein aap ne kaafi kuch bol diya 😳

Saras and his love for Kumud and GRs honest portrayal are the only constants in the story which veers from one bizarre extreme to another.

For Kumud, has sadly not badly able to rise above the typical SP bahu.

Bingo! And this is where the root of SC's mediocrity lies... Saras has been made into a pillar standing behind Kumud, and he provides staunch support, but for what - SP's pre-packaged maal

She quickly abandoned him bapu ki izzat ke liye - could be understood and accepted, because to be dumped on the eve of wedding is a huge be izzati, and so the timing was such that she had to take a snap decision.

From an EQ perspective and keeping in sync with Kumud's characterization... This actually made sense and did not abuse the disbelief-o-meter that much.

She wanted the marriage to work in early days - could be understand, for an already dead and dumped Kumud would take time to return to her conscious self and see the reality.

Again... Ego... Kumud's choice. Still logic could be applied here... A gradual progression, disintegration and evolving could be noted.

Thereafter it stopped making sense.

Best five words ever written to describe SC's most degenerative state 👍🏼

Why did she stay on? What was that pramaad sudhar, Kanha, shiv parallel? Why was it about her haar and jeet?

And what were her feelings for Saras ? She seemed to have again abandoned him in her quest for mahanta in the eyes of her new and old family.

Actually Arshi, I would have preferred had Kumud, kept those feelings for Saras buried, instead of now looking at him with goey eyes and proclaiming 'haqq' when he clearly still stands in his 'hadd'... It just makes her appear selfish, her 'love' questionable. Again, giver and taker aspect of the equation comes up. Jab koi nahi tab Saras, jab sab mila, toh Kaun Saras? Aur jab mahanta ka bhoot sarr pe sawar hoga madam awaaz degi... Aa jao, Saras 😵

Today, again when the poor boy is all starting to hope again, not one of us trusts Kumud to not again abandon him to be mahan in the eyes of her parivar

Not one of us trusts her to stand up say, this man here has suffered so much for me, and he is not a football to be kicked from this court to the next.

Mere bapu aur Saras ke khilaf... Seems to be the extent of her standing up. And that only came after he had rescued her from becoming kindling for her marital bonfire. Saras eternally is going to keep repaying for that phone call. His biggest mistake was falling for Kumud, completely, utterly, immersing himself in her... While she is always the one to look over her shoulder. Naak hamesha ucchi rakhni hai madam ko... She craves wah-wah... Esp from Bapu and Badi Maa.

Such has been the character of Kumud - she will always put her family above him and will not hesitate to make him the bakra , to win brownie points from bapu.

And he, he is the sanyasi, his love is the true Bhakti, he has kept himself out of the equation from the day he made that phone call.

For him it's been always about her and her alone.

But she, for her, he is extremely dispensable. Hence the very question crops up with this kusum track

Dispensable is so right, Arshi ji. Saras deserves better. Kya se kya bana diya usse Kumud ke pyaar nein... Everytime he takes the fall to make her rise. And she uses his two shoulders to stand up... Now, if she let's Kusum have her way, it will be akin to kicking those shoulders outta her sight cos she no longer needs them. Kumud has always used Saras to the best of her abilities... As the situation demanded. And the madly-in-love guy, he let himself be used to both absurd highs and lows.

Is this mukkamal pyaar, pyaar at all for Kumud? For it's the first thing she is known to sacrifice time and again, to preserve her other relationships.

She is a typical sp bahu, parivar, balidan izzat, ladai, blah blah ...

Here inspite of trying not to, I am beginning to agree with Toni and Veera. Her lack of love will be proved once an for all if she pushes him to kusum.

They called it, Arshi ji... While we were caught up with our analysis and models, they saw straight through the academic mumbo-jumbo into the core of her character. Selfish... Like Toni says often "ah pyaar nai hai"... Uss ki taraf se pyaar tha hi nahi, Arshi ji. Kumud's love runs at the first sight of disapproval and adversity... While Saras' love has subsumed his very existence.

The pyaar and dastaan unfortunately seems to be only his

Eff SP and their infatuations with 100 crore whales, then. Naam Saraswatichandra hai, hukum Kumud ka chalta hai. Aur Kumud mein kuch naya kaha... Lakhon aye aur gaye aisi assembly line pe.

This is the second show I am watching. And notice a tendency very inherent in makers. That is to show the male lead showing unconditional love n the female lead has a super high ego and most importantly considers herself very intelligent n very very right. So much that she thinks she can decide for him.

Ivy 🤗 you are back. Good to see you.

Logged in to say Hello HI Bye Bye for now. I am too sleepy and tired and... ... disappointed.

BTW - in almost every show I have watched, offsreen the leads either get along tooo well😉😉 or dont get along at all or get along well then... stop getting along😉😆 and that spoils the onscreen chemistry. Channel has their own fundas to add to that equation. Then the story ka ho gaya satyanaash. SC was no exception sadly.

Very thought-provoking posts, all! Great reading makes up for the not-so-great (!!) viewing...

Re: the news from the ITA awards - a nice touch of irony to ice to our cake, huh?

GR obviously is too chemistry-ful for others dealing with insecurities - not surprising. That "professional" actors harbour these attitudes and get a way with these tantrums as seems to have happened on SC is news to me...

Puzzled - Am able to switch on and off watching other shows on TV with ease... Why is it turning out so tough to switch off from SC, even when its being yo-yo massacred, I wonder?
History? GR? Best Actress? Loyalty to a figment of imagination? CB?😉

Thank you friends, for all the concern and for missing me 🤗... I am absolutely fine, just had some personal commitments come up that caused me to forego CB for a while. Plus a tiny part of me is relieved I won't need to catch up on epi's of the status quo 😃

Nandy ji - Sahi baat ki. Nothing to analyse. My suspension of disbelief meter has been given such a merciless workout that it has quit on me. And bereft of requisite defences, I've quit watching SC 😉

Hgg Bhai... This is all quite interesting, really. Kumud & Saras ka identikit todna padha mujhe, but SC off-screen ka ik zabardast identikit bana hai... The building blocks for what we are seeing now, were laid even before the first epi aired. This is purely from an industry perspective so please indulge. And waise bhi, show khatam hone ke baad, SLB ko jab Ram-Leela se fursat mile tab toh ye sab bahar aane hi wala hai =)

Disclaimer: Reader discretion is advised/requested 😳

To start with the overarching SC narrative... The structure was 'traditional'... This was SLB's adaptation to have Saras-Kumud meet and for romance to bloom. The 'source' had none of this, and was shown 'going-back'... This 'romance period' IMHO, should have been the most painstakingly laid building block and also should have been the most prolonged part... The tagline touted but three and it was a simple but brilliant narrative strategy:

(1) Muqammal Mohabbat ki (2) Adhoori Dastaan... Jald (3) Hogi poori.

Muqammal Mohabbat...

Alas, they faltered and stumbled badly on the very first part. Full blame rests with SLB for his tunnel vision. He should have seen the warning signs there and then. Not to undermine married artists in the least, but Jennifer came 'shackled' into the project. To give her credit, she did walk out at first and the primordial mistake was to get her back and to concede to the demands of her no intimacy contract, when the brief was all about emotional intimacy. Anyone would have ballooned with the thought: See, they came running back to me. Jennifer may be the best Kumud, but IMHO Kumud needed to be an actress without such obvious limitations in the romance department or preferably with a less insecure hubby. To add to that, let's face it, our leads don't get along with each other. According to 'source' in the beginning days of SC, J took the tag of a "married woman" extremely seriously, there was no trace of even comradeship from her side. And when the male is warned that his very fingers are being kept a watch at, of course those digits will shake when they reach out for contact. So part one, was wrecked, the chemistry stagnated. The touch me not romance, turned many viewers off, and the off-screen tantrums didn't help either. SLB decided (over the objections of SP) that he had to cut his losses on the 'Muqammal Mohabbat' front... He knew there was a lot that was still to be shown and he damn well could have beautifully illustrated Muqammal Mohabbat, drawing on subtleties and making Saras-Kumud equation even stronger and poignant, remember this was the man who had orchestrated the amazingly soulful romance of Khamoshi, but Jennifer was not willing to play ball... Not with Gautam. And after being relentlessly mocked and thoughtlessly dragged into someone else's marital drama, even GR put his foot down. That is when SLB started contemplating a Kumud replacement but SP stepped in, tightened the purse strings and told him, no dice. To look for a replacement was a headache they were not willing to cut slack for. And thus, the second part was unceremoniously ushered in, with SLB's exit stage left.

Adhoori Dastaan...

This was the most botched-up phase. The production shifted hands and slowly, from one banal epi to the next... SC turned from being a prestigious Adaptation, into just another on the SP assembly line. I will still maintain that SO are merely caretakers... And this gesture of helming SC is going to earn them an absurd amount of goodwill from Star. Also note that SLB still shines in the 'Created and Adapted by" bit... This is very clever. The buck still stops with SLB. But the show now resembles something straight outta his very worst nightmares. Let's also address Aanshul here... Jennifer does not have any issues with him... He can touch without counting fingers and can post pictures online without fear of someone throwing a hissy fit. Why? Does this mean GR is infact the one who has problems and not Jennifer? Most definitely not. Apparently AT was a part of the DMG team and as such he is 'kosher'. Because Pati Parmeshwar has deemed so, Jennifer has no problems with Kumud bearing the brunt of Pramad's atrocities. Woh chahe maare, pite, ya jalaye... Bas Saras rehna chahiye chaar kadam ki doori par. Aur Saras (GR) 100 miles door hi khush hai 😉

Hogi Poori...

This phase thus, can never be adequately realised... Jennifer's contract still stands. Any romance is even suggested and the 100 crore whale is gonna walk out on another vacation to cool her jets down. thHow can SP have that when the show revolves like a puppy around Kumud's heels? And now, GR's note least bit interested in touching her either. Another feature of 'adaptation' has come to bite the powers-that-be on their 'tooh's'... Sanyasi ko bana diya Romeo. Now Saras cannot exist without Kumud in the show. His love for her has been made his raison d etre. Utterly and completely. And they cannot 'linger' upon a culmination of that love, forget even a re-start, because of off-screen tensions. So what's left? Mindless nautanki's by Pramad, whom they are using as a desperate measure to provide what they believe passes for 'nail-biting' drama. And with that, Kusum... And a 100% revert to the source OR Kusum now, to spike our blood pressures till we are comatose and then a hurried half-baked, Saras-Kumud reunion with curtains down on the show. For its pedestrian and 'appealing' TRP factor, my bet is tentatively on the latter. Even though the former, I regret to say, cannot be considered out-of-hand. Any End is possible. Only given is that, the End is scarily near.

...& in the midst of the trainwreck of SC a possibility has emerged, a spin-off Saraswatichandra, with sanyasi as sanyasi, a story of unfettered love and the saga of an inspirational MAN can even be attempted at a later date. If someone in Indian telly has the guts for it, that is.

Dear Ivy,
Everything I wanted to say on this issue has been explicitly written by you. Thank you for this post. I am also fed up but just that faithful streak I have is making me watch it for GR only, albeit not with the same zeal as in the beginning.

@bold: always wanted to say
@blue: should have happened a long time ago.
@red:Insecure hubby afraid of handsome guy sweeping wife off her feet.

@Bold - speaking for myself-for GR and GR alone.

Extremely saddened and disappointed with what I read and what I watch. Wish the show would come to an end. And we get to watch GR in another good new show.

@Ivy Thank you so much for your invaluable inputs . Glad to have joined the forum - for the sheer joy of reading so many thought provoking opinions and view points

Kumud is completely aware of the effect she has on him, his undying love for her and his unwillingness to move on with his life with someone else. With this background, when she exerts her haq on Saras and explicitly asks him to stay back so that she can start her life afresh, what is her thought behind it? Does she really expect Saras to be there for her as she restarts her life, help her to settle fine and then simply leave?

Definitely she knows better.. More he stays around her, more difficult it will be for him to move away from her. So somewhere down her heart she does expect him back in her life as her life companion. Just that her present state of mind does not allow her to think about it in open... isn't that so?

She has been giving him so many signals unknowingly abt her heart and then with this Kusum angle if Kumud pushes Saras away again, that will the 'new' level of her sacrifice and the lowest point of her using Saras... I hope CVs won't show us that day..

My late take as usual on the epi.

Loved all the Danny parts. Its nice to see some light moments finally after all that depressing phase that Kumud went through and most of all seeing her smile and laugh! Achaa lagaa! Wished jab Danny pushed her she had fallen into Saras's arms and both fell over on the floor! (Why aren't CVs showing such filmi things? I get it she is married still but a marriage which only exists on a piece of paper and in no other way is non existent. Kumud is as good as not married so such accidents would be ok!) Pleeease CVs dikhaa do!

Ab ofcourse the whole episode did revolve around Kusum's feelings for Saras. She still doesn't realise it but ek maa ko sab dikh jaata hai! Kuck nahi chupta!

CVs can play this track all they want but please don't let Kumud sacrifice her love because of this. Yeh kya ho raha hai! For Saras its all about Kumud...the way he gave her the water. All he cares about is her and he will def do anything to make her happy...but hoping has some sense too. it still feels weird that she will carrying on loving the one person she considered as a brother.

Loved the final scene and pre cap very much! Aanshul was good as an abusive husband but he is even better as a villain' standing between the hero and heroine! I just love the way he is all like Saras bhai'! his attitude is brilliant! I enjoy the scenes with him!

And Kalika's..'choti behna kaha hai naina!!' 🤣🤣

The outside scene where Kusum is talking to Kumud and all...mujhe aisa lagaa that at times Gautam's scenes were shot separately. I may be wrong here as me no expert but dunno his scenes didn't seem in sync with the rest. He was outstanding in his timings and expressions as usual.

Totally totally loved Saras's PRAMAAAD!!' Its nice to see that he still wont bear anyone saying anything against Gumaan no matter what as she is Danny's mom. I hope Danny stands by Saras and then one more big andaa to Pramaad bandaa!

My lame effort below:

Kusum:

Yeh kaisa pyaar hai. Na inkaar kar sakti hoon na ikraar.

Yeh kaisa pyaar hai. Pyaar hai ya ek khwaaish. Ek khwaab.

Yeh kaisa khwaab hai joh mera nahin hai

Yeh dil ka dhoka hai. Ruk jaa. Sambhal jaa

Kumud:

Tere Sapney ab mere apney.

Pyaar hai yeh saari duniya maanti hai

Humein koi shak nahi yeh hum maante hai

Tera saath hai par kaise tera haath mein thaam loon

Tere yeh jeevan mein kaise savaar doon

Pyaar tha, pyaar hai, pyaar hamesha rahega

Saras:

Ek taraf hai gharwali ek taraf bahaarwali

Yeh bole mein aala woh bole mein aali!

Sweet sweet gharwaali

Mooch waali baaharwali!

Ek ke liye mein aayaa

Doosri mooft mein paayi

Ek taraf hai gharwali ek taraf bahaarwali!
