But let me talk about the telepathic conversation between Saras and Kumud as it has been compared to the Arnav Khushi convo.
Infact, that's the reason why the scene bothered me,
When Arnav Khushi had the telepathic convo it was about their innermost feeling for each other ,
Arnav spoke about how he has fallen for Khushi inspite of his determination not to
It showed his acceptance of his love and that reached out to Khushi and she heard the call of his subconscious and responded to it.
Here if we apply the same thought. That telepathecally their innermost thought reach out to each other then even in Kumud's subconscious, the thoughts are only of pramaad. Even in her avachetan Saras has no place.
That's why I felt it was a sacrilege. Because Arnav Khushi telecon was one of the most romantic loving scenes of ipk, where they shared only their love and all else was forgotten.
Arshi, G'morning! 😃
So, after discussions with Shrija yesterday, I watched that sequence... The only one in almost two weeks that I watched outta my own curiousity 😆 And... I did not like it 😳
It started off great, the blurring and use of close-up to internalize Saras, but the fact that it was shot separately and the editing plus the female voice-over totally messed it up. Add to that the overall treatment, it was a 'dismiss' Arshi, I watched it thrice and it barely registered on me save for that one brilliant split-second of GR magic at around the 9:32 mark (meri wajah se...) The voice modulation, the involuntary clenching of the railing betraying his helplessness and control, almost like he wanted to jump, cross the middle-ground and 'erase' the distance between them 👏... But she stops him with a 'Nahin, Saras...' Almost verbally showing him the hand, telling him not to trespass the middle-ground, bringing Pramad in once more.
The Kumud voice-over was so mechanical, so 'clinical', no tone variance, no emotional alignment with expressions, compared to the male once, it came as off as 'amateur' lacking heart and affect... Something which Kumud too 'lacks' at the moment, but if that was the intent for choosing that execution, it was a directorial blunder because GR played his part almost too perfectly well... And the difference between the two actors shone out most starkly.
Also, notice how Saras is filmed in low-angles... It makes him appear almost intimidating and threatening... That is the intent... To show Saras 'as a threat' to Kumud's marriage and marital happiness from now on. The seeds for the 'slap' are slowly being scattered... But with clumsy hands, where finesse and panache would have been appreciated, and was expected.
I would not compare it to the Arnav-Khushi convo (am in no position to), but the same mise-en-scene ('Arnav-Khushi template') was still used... However, there is only so much AK can do with present limitations. There was no SRS/ playing off... There was no eyeline match... It wasn't allowed to 'breathe', to permeate into consciousness... Even the FB seemed crudely and cruelly placed.. Witness how in that Arnav-Khushi sequence, a same sorta FB parallelism was used? But here it did not work. Not for me, not at all 👎🏼
There was 'ehsaas' though on Saras' part when he first feels Kumud is there and swiftly shifts directions... She, for her part only notices him when his (let's assume) 'gaze' is upon her. Shows how far Kumud has gone, from Saras... The fact that they are on different 'planes' is very telling too. Another foreshadowing of the 'break'.
P.S. Expect Mon/Tues epi to be mightily effed up as well with use of body doubles, separate shots, dissonant voice-overs (if used) since J's took off again
