Ivy-

So you are back.. And HOW!

I am busy traveling and in meetings today.. So will go thru your post once again from a learning perspective later..

But some quick thoughts..

- Bob The Builder a.k.a. SLB / Arvind Babbal is gone.
- SP is the driver and everyone defers to it.
- SP will make sure any new director knows who's the boss.
- SP understanding of the requirement is an Abala Nari as central character.
- Which unfairly grants a Diva status to Jen and Kumud.
- By default, under the new plans, everyone else is secondary.. maybe dispensible.
- So why should Jen try any harder.. She's now first among equals.
- Similarly why should anyone else try to play-off against her.. Performance would not matter.
- So you see the nuances.. People are disengaging in scenes with the Diva.
- And Diva doesn't care too hoots now..

I was searching for a smug / tougue - in - cheek /smirk at least once in the Kalika - Kumud marriage dialogue... Sweet revenge types!

But Kumud now really believes she's doing good to Kalika... Because that's what Daddy likes now..

And my earlier post.. What's the point of it all?
The Diva will be returned..
She is the multi-crore Whale (gambling term)... Her Abala Nari persona will keep the money rolling in..
If this continues..people will start to leave once they get something better..

So why should she try any harder?

This is dead corpse of a show at least to me..

Hgg bhai... Loved your quick thoughts 👍🏼
Special mention to the way how you clearly clarified that multi-crore whale is a 'gambling term' (if you get my drift 😛)

Between you, Nandy and Happy... Even I am learning today... The ways and strategies of the Diva/HH Prima Donna 😳... But really, if this is why, the SRS eff-up's are happening... Then this is unprofessionalism and power-trip at its peak. And I have to say, Indian tv industry grammar and culture is a world apart from the culture I engage with and am accustomed to. A culture that practices and considers the form as an Art, and Artists who wear their integrity as a badge of honor. Not for sale to the highest bidder.

SC has been a shattering and eye-opening experience. Suppose I should be thankful to all the Diva's and their near & dear ones for the learning 🤔

Last thoughts: I have actually met SP executives and the way they promote the corporate brand with such professionalism and drive... You oughta listen to the sales pitch. And then you consider the under-handed back-alley, and cheap style that their shows are being run. The utterly low standard they accept and worse, enforce. It is truly astonishing. They might as well be thugs in suits...

Great post Arshi. So apt! (sorry haven't read the rest but will try to soon!)

After long I watched an epi where I felt like contributing. SC in new hands...somewhat I feel its going the way the audience wanted it to. Kumud's explanation about her self respect and up bringing, her stance against the difference between her and Kalika was applaud worthy!

Where we saw Saras come back with a bang, we saw Kumud come back with an even bigger bang!

Few loopholes were still lingering around...like if Kusum was still at BD mansion then where was she when Kalika was about to get engaged? Where was she when Pramaad had a hissy fit over Kalika? I actually thought she had gone back with VC when they came but precap se pata chala that she is still there!

Gautam Gautam Gautam! Kya kahoon tumsey! You have the most adorable face and expressions in this entire universe! The way he shakes his head when Kumud tells him to go...all those aankhon ki baat and expressions were too sweet! My heart melted!

Aanshul is another genius in the making! I loved his bhaashan to Kumud in the room! (some of it I felt I couldn't help but agree, some of it made me smile!! Evil I know but its just his way of speaking! You cant help but laugh!!...esp what he said about Kusum being there!! lol!)

Achaa...overall for me...after long an episode has left an impact!

The future is sort of bright but from the spoilers it seems that we may be going back to square one when Pramad will pretend to be good..(am sure it wont be him turning positive for real!) and Kumud going back to that hell' because she doesn't want to be a boj' on baapu!

For that I am not ready as I feel finally we can breathe some fresh air when Kumud leaves! I don't want to go back to the four walls of BD Mansion (otherwise very obviously VC mansion!!) - How the grill reminded me of the first time Saras entered VC mansion and Kumud was looking at him from there...aah...such short cuts and shoddiness does bother me a little! Chal koi nahi...Gautam manages to fill those shortfalls with his pretty face!!!!

Reading your views Ivy and many others..I feel like I watched another show.
Technically, you learn to ignore what actors do because Indian shows are made in such a way. I think mainly because there are no expressions to retaliate to. I agree with your point of 'playing off' but I also feel that actors are not to blame here.
They are expected to act alone and asides a handful scenes...mainly expected to act infront of body doubles. Body doubles who I doubt know the A of acting. They stand there expressionless and the actor is supposed to then jump from scene to scene.
To pull that off successfully is a challenge in it self.
Majority of these scenes are jigsaw pieces where two scenes are being shot simultaneously but in different places.
I may be wrong for that maaf kardena Ivy ji!

Blistering blue barnacles! WHAT A POST, IVYJI! ⭐️
I am at a loss of words to appreciate the depth of your brilliant analysis of the basic yet important aspects of a creative artist's work. How I wish I'd explored various interesting courses the Drama dept. had to offer during my undergrad to whole-heartedly acknowledge your stimulating post which encourages noobs like me to look at any creative piece from a different bent of mind. Thank you😊😊. Awesome case study!

Coming to JW's acting/SRS, honestly speaking, I really couldn't find any gaping errors like I do with Anshul T's. I think we've always been on the same page regarding this? Like many have said here, dismal piece of writing overrides the enthusiasm in actors to deliver according to the situation. They get their moolah at the end of the day, come what may, so why strain yourself to give your best?

It's been established from time immemorial (*yawns* still super early here) that S would stay till he sees K happy again with her dastardly hubby. Then why repeat the same damn thing again and again and again and... in every single episode! Hmm, so why do I say this? I was taken aback when I learnt that Indian TV shows are written on a daily basis and SC storyline has been tweaked infinite number of times to cater to the interest of TRP viewers. If that's the case, how can finesse be expected from directors/actors who are stressed from head to toe every single day beyond measure? I am not defending anyone or refuting your stance but making a general observation regarding the state of affairs using my very limited knowledge.

Hgg, that's a nice summative assessment of the whole Problem!

@Bold, I am most puzzled as to why this show was made at all, then! Was somebody at SP smoking something when SLB was signing on? Or were they just sleeping on the job?

@Red, I assume you mean the cast, though it's equally applicable to us the badly-used Viewers, 😆

@Blue, a neat turn of phrase, that. Go on, turn the dagger right in!!😭

The only reason to watch any longer is to give the corpse a decent wake and burial, for old times' sake! And for our CB community!

Hiya Kat

1) You should not feel that because you obviously watched as a viewer and my analysis as stated was from a director's POV, only =)

2) As an audience allowance can be made for creative lax... But from a technical pov, no. So, as part of my analysis, if I wanted to be true I could not ignore the actors. Because they are expected to be the conduits for the directors vision. Also, I give allowances for BD's... But the scenes and sequences stated had the actual artists. No one was acting alone. You always know when they're talking to thin air or a double. And if so, why was the Double only effing it up for Jennifer? Why not, GR or Soni? Conspiracy che? =P Moreover, the directors negligence is also highlighted for not pulling the artist in line... So it was basically both a critique of the director & of the weakest link from a directors pov. It was only because I had promised Twila an analysis that I added my reactions as a viewer too... Maybe I shouldn't have done that and kept it purely technical =)

I truly appreciate the feedback Kat, but I think you read my post as a viewer, only.

@tryforceful Sorry buddy, dunno your name =)

Are you "coming to JW's acting" from a technical pov, or that of a viewer? =P

I agree with your points and disagree too. I am not looking for finesse here... SRS is nothing glamorous or complex if the ladies from Saath Nibhana Saathiya can pull it off with elan... Not asking for Jennifer's best... I don't expect anyone's best in this show, actually now. But, if others are making an effort so could you... You give people wrong cues, you don't follow cues... It reflects badly on everyone involved in the sequence. With the time crunch associated in tv, the burden falls on individual artists too to be true to whatever they are putting out. That is if they take pride in their work and the show.

Even 'barely passes muster' is good enough for me, these days. But, the episode in question was even below that. The whole twenty-plus minutes was rendered off-kilter.

Whatever we are seeing is unfortunately indicative of lack of commitment, pride and integrity on the part of those in question. And as you say, since they're getting big bucks, why should they worry? Indeed, but from a directors pov, I would have never yelled 'Cut and Print' on that episode... Even if I be a director rushed off my feet. Not for a prime-time show, popular in international territories as well.

Thank you so much for the feedback =)
