Arshi-
Great post Arshi...
Did not see today's epi...but read a WU somewhere...
Had expected you will feel like this today...but did not want to rain on people's expectations.
Why?
Teej IS NOT REMOTELY in the consciousness of a Gujju family!!!
Dear wife had no clue what this is all about and had to ask a couple of her North Indian colleagues at work.
It is entirely a North & East India festival!
No offence to anyone...but those SOB CVs have converted a traditional Gujju family into a pucca North Indian family...this started with the Karva Chauth...then Teej...It seems today you had the Desais going to Kumud's sasural..😭😭😭
How do I contribute to this last post of CB?
I have tried to arrange a note with the
closing lines of some great works of literature (some which I have read & some which are in my Bucket List of sorts...though hopefully have a long way to go😉)...and which sometimes were said in a different context in the orginal...but which are apt...
1) ...It was a fine cry - loud and long - but it had no bottom and it had no top, just circles and circles of sorrow. - Toni Morrison, Sula
- This is what most of us felt when it all started to go downhill...all the days of despair, depression, anger, frustation seeing the horror taking birth in front of our very eyes...
2) ...So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past. - F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
- Hoping against hope that this is a temperory phase..the past glory will take shape again once things settle...the significance of the past to the dreams of the future...
3a) ...But I reckon I got to light out for the Territory ahead of the rest, because Aunt Sally she's going to adopt me and sivilize me and I can't stand it. I been there before. - Mark Twain, Huckleberry Finn
And then ...the dream shattered...the hope dissipitating ...
After having experienced the glory of the past, I cannot continue to see or experience this drivel anymore... Aunt Sally represents the TRP Aunty...She's going to adopt me i.e. change the whole show leaving me no choice in the matter...and then try & sivilize (civilize) me i.e. make me see a 'civilized' TRP crap...I can't stand it...
3b) ...you must go on, I can't go on, I'll go on. - Samuel Beckett, The Unnamable
Not continuing with the regularity of thinking / speaking about this bas***dized show is my choice...However, no hard feelings for people who still love this, wish to continue this show...At the very least I am out of here...
4a) ...Come, children, let us shut up the box and the puppets, for our play is played out. - William Thackeray, Vanity Fair
This represents the reason why your decision to wind down SC CB...What else is there?...
4b) ...But that is the beginning of a new story - the story of the gradual renewal of a man, the story of his gradual regeneration, of his passing from one world into another, of his initiation into a new unknown life. That might be the subject of a new story, but our present story is ended. - Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment
Its a small world...We friends will meet again... CB will rise again like a Phoenix...but in a different world...for a different show...
5)...Whatever we had missed, we possessed together the precious, the incommunicable past. - Willa Cather, My Antonia
This is the saving grace...the friends we have made...the learning we have learned...the insights we have wondered in awe at...the common shared experience of experiencing the legacy of SLB's near perfect 100 odd episodes...
Inserting Ivy's magnificent post in the last CB. No one could have said this any better:
I suppose I thought I'd be churning out essays for every episode and delivering *standin'-frickin-ovation's* till the number 2000. Par apni kahaani Rab ne ehna hi likheya si. At the peak of SC, CB was a force of nature, a fathomless ocean of ideas, insights and discourse. Even today, those links are threads of pure gold and their perusing value shall never diminish, nor their power to enrich and stimulate. We made our own discussions, as smrth Bhai said. Unstoppable. We 'mavericks'... Our passion got tampered and disilluisioned on one front. But we shall meet again in another. Our investment was not for naught. Never for naught when we walk out with deep attachments, genuine respect and awe... An undeniable sense of regard. Saraswatichandra has been tarnished but CB shines on with unblemished brilliance.
*Standing-frickin-ovation* to all the CBians and to you, our resilient troop leader 👏 👏 👏 👏 and a salute of pure pride and honor.
Arshi, Hgg bhai, smrth bhai, happychappy, Nandy, kaadal, twila, Vaishali, Veera, Santhi, Kat, Shana, Anki, Reemz, Mrieshka, trupishree (this list I know is by no means exhaustive) Just everyone who have made CB what it is today, who consider CB home, haven and 'public sphere'... It's been a sheer pleasure. An unreplicable experience. The magic, can never be recreated. And nor should it. Also, it goes without saying that the CB experience has been, strictly speaking, unforgettable.
6)...Maybe I will go to Paris. Who knows? But I'll sure as hell never go back to Texas again. - James Crumley, The Final Country
After today, will never see SC again...I dont see any hope now...Will still keep in touch through the posts here...
7) ..."Vaya con Dios, my darklin', and remember: vote early and vote often, don't take any wooden nickels, and" - by now I was rolling about helplessly on the spare-room floor, scrunched up around my throbbing pain and bawling like a baby- "always leave 'em laughin' as you say good-bye!" - Robert Coover, The Public Burning
I am the person scrunched up around my throbbing pain... but leave on a high note..
Seems like this post will help make up my average...considering I did not post much the last week or so..😉
Cya Around...Phir Milenge to all friends here on CB...
