While I am on team samud...I get the feeling this is going towards a track like the film Kabhie Kabhie...

I had raised this comparsion a long long time back on CB.

Rakhee-Amitabh was Kumud-Saras...who have a great deep love...but eventually get seperated by circumstances and marry others.

Amitabh marries Waheeda ...who herself had an affair before marriage, PMS and a illegitimate kid..Neetu Singh...not known to Amitabh

Rakhee gets a super duper, much better hubby in Shashi Kapoor (one of his best acts ever!)...Before marriage she thinks like Kumud now...Rishte Nibhana types...But she eventually falls in love all over again, picks up her life and Moves On...Her past with Amitabh is one of the most treasured part of her life...BUT would she exchange it now...Never!

Amitabh carries a regret and melancholy all his life...and never gives Waheeda a chance to his love...

The film traces their back stories and reactions when many threads come together and how each party has dealt with / deals with the cards they have been given by circumstances..

Absolute vintage class, path breaking Yash Chopra...before he became senile and started creating crap like Dil to Pagal Hai, Veer Zaara & Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

But I digress...

Now:
1) Kumud can be Rakhee, Pramad can be Shashi, Saras can be Amitabh and Kusum can be Waheeda (without the kid but same concept)...

OR
2) Kumud can be Waheeda & Pramad can be Amitabh

Hand on Heart...I would be most interested to see if #1 turns out...that's taking complexity to the next level...and with the samud track is being dragged for so long without any solution either way ...I am hoping for any movement forward either way

Of course the critical factor for #1 is that Pramad becomes Shashi. 😉

Hello all, it's so awesome to read your musings after so long, which of course, are followed by Arshi ji's yet again, beautiful synthesis. 👏

Updating my post now 😳

Despite how much I disliked Kumud "moving on" from Saras, (I blame that on my attachment issues with these two 😆) and as much I disliked the overall Kusum-Saras confrontations, and Kalika being... well, Kalika, I must admit, today was a day that allowed all the important characters of the show develop in different ways:

Kumud--- fulfilling her vow to reform her pati, and to do that, (as Ivy ji brilliantly stated once upon a time) she is eager to be the beta instead of the alpha.

Kusum-- known once as the bholi bholi cute cute sister of Kumud is really developing into her own personality. Although I can see connections between her and her sister (all sisters are similar in one way or another) it's interesting to watch her grow into a different, more mature character. For example, the way she figured Kalika out within a matter of moments and told her off. 😆 (although, I wouldn't mind seeing her thinking just a bit more before jumping to conclusions... but then again, I don't blame her. She is also a woman scorned, who's dealing with the aftermath of Kumud's sudden marriage to Pramad.)

Kalika-- Here is where we get to know the extent to which Kalika will do to take Kumud's position in the household. We figured out through today's episode and the precap that she'll leave no stone unturned when it comes to figuring out the mystery of Saras/Navin and Kumud.

Pramad-- We've been watching him develop almost daily... But today, I must admit, after he willingly put the sharaab down at Kumud's silent request, I could see a child scorned within him. I have to say, this is quite an achievement for Kumud, who was once considered a piece of furniture by this guy not so long ago.

Saras/Navin--- today, I think I saw a lot of the old Saras. Despite the fact that he said "Saraswatichandra mar chuka hai.." he still remained his calm, posed self, and took every one of Kusum's blows with a calm demeanour. Even though I tend to dislike Saras' never ending self-sacrificing ways, I really have to admit, I missed his tendency to let others blow off their steam on him.

Even though I very dearly miss the old magic of Saraswatichandra, I have to 👏 for the brilliant new dimensional development of the main characters. 😆 Although I feel that the characters could have been broadened in a more suave and less rugged way, it's still acceptable to see the plot unfold so interestingly... it leaves a lot of room for unpredictability too, I must say. 😆

so sorry again for my Ramayan! 😭 😳

@ Hotdogg - thanks for the clarifications. I thought I did see Kumud wear the kamarband a couple times after PMS too, not sure though.
I miss CB and CBians too, hopefully shall be able to participate in discussions Sept onwards regularly. CB has grown so much and such wonderful writers on board now, such brilliant discussions.

@hotdogg- haven't watched Kabhi Kabhi but I know it's one of those Yash Raj classics.. isnt the famous song ''kabhi kabhi mere dil mein khayal ata hai'' from the same movie? great stuff! Regarding the parallels with the show and whether or not SC will go that way, I think otherwise..mainly coz Pramad fits in neither Amitabh's character nor Shashi Kapoor's ( as per your summary )..like I said before, I feel he is trying to deceive Kumud into thinking that things can be ''solved'' the way she wants.. wait till he gets to know the whole backstory which I am sure will not be through Kumud or Saras, then he will show his true colors..

Wed Epi: A few thoughts...

Saras as Mr. Fixit-It... Is just digging himself in deeper and deeper. It was okay to give Kumud ideas and support, but the BD family... A big No. All his instances of 'helping hand' that the Dhan's are taking so gratefully now is going to stand in the witness box one day and testify to his 'deceit and duplicity' of them. You can see that not only Mr. BD, but Mrs and Alak too, have started to imagine golden halo's upon Saras' head which is wrong. The man is an angel, but a fallen one, and he is not on the path to redemption, the path he is in, is going to earn him damnation and condemnation. The way they 'impose' status of 'son' on him, and the way he 'invokes' the same to 'manipulate' them... You can see BD, SD visibly melt. That is wrong

Saras may mean 'good' but very soon we are going to witness the destruction of his 'good intentions'. I realise that Mr. SC is on a countdown, but he cannot afford to act in haste and be transparent, when his very 'standing' in that house embodies opaqueness...

SD, Alak and Kusum:

Not to be too cynical here, but in light of SD's earlier realisation that Kusum may have 'ulterior motives' for visit, she and Alak may be going out of their way to make Kusum feel that not only Kumud but even Kumud's sister is loved, wanted and welcomed in the house. A positive facade. In the kitchen, Mrs. BD seemed a bit too jovial... To qualify the emotion as 'natural'. Who knows maybe Mastermind Navin was behind this and with the 360 from Alak's side too... Recall their alone conversation, which we entered 'in medias res'?... Kusum is getting a far better welcome from Alak than Kumud ever did. Poor thing was ignored for days by Alak post-marriage. Whereas Kusum is like a child that they want to delight... And distract. I say, Sid was cuter 😉 Hence the match-making bit by SD and Alak, I don't take with dread. I see that as them taking their indulgence and 'distraction' of Kusum to the extreme. Because SD mentioned, what if and Sid... It is Alak who brought up Navin and gave her the idea. Makes me wonder, why is Alak trying to pair off Navin with Kusum? And witness Saras, not as 'son like' but rather fully qualified as 'another son' now... And SD just needed the push to start her 'matchmaking efforts'... So I'd focus on Alak, still. Out of her character to just utter Navin so spontaneously and then look to Kumud for her reaction. And Kusum's ensuing dialogue, to give benefit of doubt was made in sheer ignorance. It may seem like dire premonition of 'source', but removed from all, viewed in isolation, it was an off-the-cuff remark to underscore the sisterly bond. And then Mr. Mastermind drops in to check... Phase One, of Deceit and Delight, Activated 😛

Saras - Kumud:

Mr. & Mrs. Fix-It are getting careless now, but ki farak penda hai... Their efforts are soon going to be demolished by Mr. & Mrs. Wreck-It (Pramad and Kalika), anyway. Bringing Kusum into the 'fold' is but a double-edged sword... For immediate purposes, it has to be done. But in the larger picture it will bear witness to 'unscrupulous collusion' between the three. Not only to BD, but VC family too

Kalika - Saras:

She is the one Saras will have to contend with. More aggresively than will Kumud. And somedays Kalika and Pramad will tag-team to launch full-frontal assaults on them. Saras' no-shit attitude to Kalika, gives her the burning incentive to cut him down to size. In some ways, Saras rejected her too (seva offers)... And she must be smarting. But Kalika is cunning and quick. Two things that Saras and Kumud are not. And she will use that to their disadvantage. She has already deduced Kumud's and 'Navin's' relation as 'familiar'... And she is going to probe, to inflict barbs, to shake the tree down until something drops loose. Plus the distinctive bg music she has... Kalika's got a lot up her sleeves. Nothing much passes Kalika, she already suspected someone was in the room. Saras, was more tetchy with her than ever before, and she waited. Her doubts got validated. Now, not only 'Bahu rani and Navin ji' appear more familiar to each other than they should be, but they also are hiding things and meeting in 'secret'. That is a black mark against Kumud's character, right there. Her 'undercover' association with an 'other' in her in-laws home... That canary smirk. Advantage, Kalika

Kumud - Pramad:

The 'blue color' that Kumud foisted upon Pramad is Saras' color. Blue is Saras (Krishna) and Kumud choosing 'blue' is not indicative of her trying to put Pramad in Saras' place. Thank God, Kumud has no agency over her heart, and "ehsaas"... They remain quite indifferent to her public service tendencies. However her choosing 'blue' also re-affirms her 'choice'... Saras. Pramad can never take his place, not even as substitute. And it is also indicative of her Mission 'Reform' which she has started in full earnest. You can also see how Pramad 'plays' with Kumud. Like she is a cute little kitten 😆 Right now Pramad has an agenda... Curiosity can cripple even the best of us... And he is consumed by the desire to know who is SC. Like Kalika, Pramad is cunning. He knows Kumud is the only one who can hand him that particular jigsaw piece about her past. So, he 'presses' Kumud's buttons... What makes her smile, what gives her relief, what tenses her and makes her squirm... He is observing. Then he will gather 'intel'... Then like a true operative, he will strike. And Kumud is going to be left reeling. Pramad is a smark cookie, hiding his genuine agenda under scorn and malice. The only reason he capitulates is because Kumud gives him an incentive. Pramad would not have budged an inch otherwise. Though Kumud in her Mother Teresa frame of mind will give him every benefit of the doubt 😛

Important note, even Saras-Kumud have to tag-team... The missing blocks in Mr. Fix-It's efforts can only be filled in by Mrs. Fix-It, before BD declares it 'Approved'... Pramad. Saras cannot do anything in regards to that, only Kumud can. At the same, Saras has made deeper inroads into BD family's heart than Kumud ever will. At 'expose' point, deep down inside, they will hurt and bleed the most from 'son's' cut and not 'DIL's'... The way Saras is shown to be endearing himself to all, from BB to Indresh, he maybe doing it to bind their 'ties' more tightly, what what he is really tightening is the noose of 'traitor' around his neck

Also, again Alak mentions making Saras a 'pair'... Why is she so intent on this, all of a sudden? 😕 Is Alak shaking the tree too, so to speak. Her pursuits and interests have been indicated as something very different till now, so why would she act as though 'match-making' is her life's mission, all of a sudden? Not giving Alak any benefit of doubt here. She is 'kingmaker', after all. And has her own 'interests' to protect. The way she tells Saras about Kusum and walks off, not registering as 'innocent' on my radar. Is Alak too 'playing', watching, waiting? She has that jigsaw piece of Saras and his inner hurt... She may have instinct to not take Mr. Fixit-It proclamations that he is fine, on face-value.

Kalika - Kumud - Pramad

With Pramad making his 'play' unbeknowst to Kalika, she has been left burned and scorned. But she will turn upon Pramad. She will attack Kumud. This 'play' hence was necessary to light a fire under Kalika. Kumud's expressions at that point reminded me of her 'clashes' with Gumaan, and all know what happened, there. Kumud won the battles. Gumaan won the war. History is all but set to repeat here, as well! *fingers crossed* 😆

And I want this to get resolved either way fast...all this meandering is getting to me..specially saras and his current status / locus standi...his presence is the biggest impediment to the story moving forward either way...I hope next week moves this forward...aar ya paar types..

Though to speak of better things...suggest you catch the movie sometime...made in 1975-76 (I think) under a path-breaking and creatively his best Yash Chopra...so it does not have the glam treatment...but the concept & content is wow... imagine this topic being discussed in mid-seventies in India...

Trivia >> Yash Chopra gave Amitabh Deewar and co-created the 'Angry Young Man' persona for Amitabh along with Prakash Mehra's Zanjeer...and then created the 'Romantic' persona for Amitabh with Kabhie Kabhie, Trishul & Silsala ...all in a span of 5 years!

Suggest you catch the movie links on youtube for a few scenes - and replace with kumud, saras & pramad: Mindblowing impact...and all what the show has not been able to convey still despite the convolutions it has been doing
