I think this story has been fully diverted. The novel was about saras, his family, his relation with kumud and how he leaves house after losing the love of his life because of his parents and saves BD's life and reaches his haveli. How he tries to reform society thru his work and writings and also helps kumud in her pain at being misbehaved by her husband pramad.
But the story is on one track about kumud and her pain at not marrying saras and having married pramad. Saras has turned a villan in the show and everyone blaming him. The story has been totally messed up from the novel.
Atleast salvage the story a bit by showing saras helping people and society instead of always trying to wipe kumud's tears and feeling guilty till end. That never happened in the novel. It was kumud and her parents decision to marry her off to pramad not saras decision. In novel marriage date was never fixed between saras-kumud at all. Here not only marriage fixed but even spent a night together thus wrongly potraying the hero saras as a grey character. And saras family totally disappeared while in novel their character remained.
The story looks like kumud chandra rather than saraswati chandra. You cannot have a serial with hero name and not show anything but a typical 80s "Abla nari marrying a shaitan and reforming him into a good human pati" by end of serial after facing marital voilence etc all the while accussing and abusing her ex-lover for leaving her while in reality her parents are at fault for their wrong choice of groom. This is not a 21st century educated girl behaves.
What signal are we sending to society and girls in particular? That no matter your husband hit you, have other women in his life yet you stay with him for parivaar ki izaat and because if you go to your mom's house your younger sisters cannot get groom and your family will be disgraced. This is how uneducated poor woman behave who have no source of income and family do not support. So are you saying kumud was a typical uneducated(educated only in books) poor family village girl who cannot stand up for her rights.
Or are you showing thru serial indian society never changed from 18th century? Yes society has not changed much and still targets alone women but atleast kumud can fight back for herself

It was meant to be about Saras and Kumud, not just Saras because the name is 'Saraswatichandra'. Even so, it is Saras who is making the sacrifice, it is he who has decided to put his feelings aside to help the woman he loves. So is it not an author-backed role?!

I have no doubt in my mind that this was planned long ago.

You have hit the nail, Either stick to the novel and Sraswatichandra is the ecntre or call it something else. I was thinking in terms of Mrs Sraswatichandra but Kumud chandra is a more apt description. The current track is nauseous to me.

I agree with you 100 % . The movie and serial both are Kumudchandra . They have distorted the book .
