The senior Dharamadhikaris are deliberately turning a blind eye to:
1. Kumud's predicament. Both elders (and all members of the Dharamadhikari household) know that their son is an alcoholic, jobless, and is having an illicit affair with Kanaka (sone ki bhav).
2. Of their son-in-law's predicament and that their daughter Alak treats him like a nincompoop.
Where is their moral conscience? Why is today's media not exposing their double standards?
Kumud too has totally embraced this character flaw of the Dharamadhikaris'. If fact she is wearing it as a modern day 'sati' ornament.
I can understand that her pride prevents her from acknowledging her situation to Sara however she is going to the extreme by not exposing Pramad to her in-laws and/or her parents.

About Kumud, I think she doesn't want to hurt her parents by telling them about Pramad. And maybe somehow she lost the strength/courage to speak the truth after all the mental trauma she has undergone.

I'm not sure why the Dharmadhikari family is turning a blind eye to their son and daughter in law, and also to their daughter's behavior with their son in law. 🤔
If no one in the family loves/respects the son in law, why did they marry their daughter to this person in the first place?!?! 🤪

We know Kumud is young and very rigid in her thinking. She is not a student of human psychology. She reacts impulsively to situations. She is not a deep thinker.
And I agree with you that her denial of the verbal, physical and emotional abuse she is undergoing at Pramad and Kanaka's hands is 'stupidity' or being irrational at its bes!!

You may be right re: bold - however, the first time too ... did she not hide the fact that she had called Saras to Ratnagiri to tell her parents that he had rejected her? So hiding the truth and doing as she pleases is a habit of Kumud!! It may have nothing to do with her loss of mental strength or courage. It may be an integral part of her personality!

I think that Kumud's plight is a very typical situation going on universally, but in a very atypical circumstance (with her ex-fiance being present and all... helping her through the way.) I mean, she's in an abusive relationship and she doesn't have the courage to bring it up because of all of the social taboos that come along with her problem.

Right now, although Kumud's lashing out at Saras (I was very disheartened at the fact that she brought up Saraswati maa to get back at Saras when she was upset this time) she's in a situation where she's lost her self-confidence. So, despite the fact that I disagree with her lash outs, I think they're very common and suiting to the situation she's stuck in now. I agree that her in-laws are being completely unrealistic and choose to see only what they want to see, however I can sympathize with Kumud's suffering, insecurity, and almost self-destruction in her abusive relationship... nobody deserves that.

Nice post! 👍🏼

I agree that that Kumud's plight is shared by other ladies who like her are raised in conservative families. Societal image is very important to Kumud - and definitely is playing a key role in her acceptance of Pramad's abusive behavior.
However Pramad himself on their very first night encouraged her to "tell all" and walk out of the marriage. So she has to start thinking of how she is going to stay with him. Why is she not thinking of working as a school teacher and so that she can be away from the house during the day time and be financially independent?
Re: Lashing out at Saras .. natural outlet to her frustration. She can only vent it out with Saras!
Kumud has decided that 'attack is the best form of defense'. So instead of acknowledging her precarious situation and trying to find a resolution she is attacking Saras at his weakest emotional kink.. his mother!

Kumud is in denial and hurting the person she loves the most in the process (Saras). Her in laws believe she will create a miracle and since she has not said anything they can only hope. I liked the speech her mil gave to her.
Kumud is stubborn, it is in her nature to do as she pleases, and she will not change, even her mum told her that her false pride brought Saras to Ratnagiri once, and has created the mess.
