Paisa vasool episode topped off with an ever so lovely post, Arshi! 👏 I especially loved your shayari. 😊

For me, today, Pramad's characterization was completely apt to a real life good-for-nothing drunkard/womanizer. Although he set the guidelines of their "marriage" immediately, (with which I could come out of the depths of my misery and take a gasp of air after a long time) the way he treated Kumud wasn't underdone, nor too over the top.
Personally bringing my own experiences into the show, since my cognitive and comprehensive skills have been working, I've heard a few too many stories of common household domestic abuse back in India and here in Canada as well. Whether it was Aunty gossip over the phone or at my Nani's house, I've heard it all... I've also subsequently been educated about it in my primary years of school, and believe me when I say, domestic violence is a very nasty, degrading, torturous issue. So just an insignificant point-of-view from Vee here, is that, trust me, although there is displeasure about Kumud marrying Pramad suddenly instead of Saras, and an excitement of the abuse Pramad will put her through... Nobody deserves the internal suffering, the mental and emotional exploitation Kumud will endure.

Moreover, in large family gatherings, I've had my fair share of witnessing minor things myself... So believe me when I say Pramad's character portrayal, and Kumud's reaction to who Pramad is and what he's doing to her (specifically as she's come from a household of protection, pampering, and being her Daddy's little girl) are 100% apt and believable. So I would like to commend the team behind these scenes, Jennifer Singh Grover, and this new guy, Anshul Trivedi. Fabulous job. 👏

Another commendable moment, besides the amazing observations of our fellow abled CB writers, was again. VC and Guniyal's intertwined hands after Kumud's marriage. Last time their hands were intertwined they were assured and strong; they had the ability to nurture, create, love, and accept. Moreover, this time, it was very disheartening for me to see their intertwined hands relying upon blind faith that their daughter will be okay. It was an abrupt 180 degree turn for me to notice that instead of the usual nurturing of their intertwined hands, they were instead, holding onto each other for dear life.

Overall, a great episode ---- excellent work, Gautam Rode, at the beginning of the episode, for depicting the desperate, helpless, injured Saras ----- and lovely musings on CB! 😳

Veera!..👏

And about bold;
Vidya Chatur- Guniyal was only marriage that was happy ended in the book. It proved a successful bad rock for entire clan of Maan Chatur...so many individuals nurtured and launched successfully in the stream of life (each of the characters we are witnessing has back story- solved by her)..and what a beautiful description- from a young boy VC in his mosal, where Gun Sundari's mother secures betrothal ( era of child marriage) to his going to Mumbai for further studies- return- marriage- their mutual fascination- her willingness to study and his readiness to teach- her growth built on natural talents and extra ordinary capacity for empathy in general- and then lifting all the burden of domestic nitty-gritty of such a vast family, freeing him to pursue his career...not for nothing he eulogise her with such a lovely and apt nick name 'Guniyal'...his expression... GMT has described their marriage with such finesse! Kumud was aspiring her marriage on their example!

addicted to this show just as these lines of this song...
Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai Madhoshiyan Hai
Tujhko Bhulake Aab Jaao Kahan

great observation...I had missed this due to my entire focus on saras, kumud & pramad...

agree that just like kumud, now VC & Gunial are also awakening to the implications of their decision to marry off kumud...they will suffer the most if & when they come to know of kumud's plight, knowing fully well that she went ahead with the marriage chiefly to save their face / prestige...

also I guess in kumud's absence the relationship between DB & kumari will finally start to mend for the better.

..uptil now in some respects kumud was always the first among equals in everyone's affection & attention even DBs...again a very common behaviour pattern in large joint families...where either the first born (because there was no other sibling at that time) or the last born (because he/she will be the last sibling of that generation of couples) becomes the center of attention and lavished with love & affection by the entire family...

Thank you lots, Hgg-bhai! 😊

The plight that Kumud's parents will realize will be perhaps more unbearable for me to watch, for I know that their suffering and helplessness will as much as Kumud's. And because you just stated just how important Kumud was to her family, as a firstborn and such, so beautifully... perhaps it will be more disheartening than it seems as of now.

Indeed looking forward to a stronger bond between DB and Kumari... Kumari deserves it, and needs it, especially in her tender age. 😊

Although Kusum's manhoos baatein were disliked by most, I must say, as a side note, I do hope she gets the attention from her parents she deserves now... Speaking as a middle child, we often are overlooked, even if we do work harder than the eldest or the youngest. Also hoping, and perhaps I'm getting too far into the story, that when Sunny arrives in the Desai haveli to help out VC as per Chandrakant in the Wikipedia summary of the novel, a little action arises between this Sunny-Kusum pair we were eyeing... 😊

Smrth bhai! 😲

Thank you so very much for this background context. 👏 Indeed, it has helped me out with my interpretations of the relations within the show yet again! 😳

Indeed, GMT has carefully constructed Gunsandari and Vidyachatur's relationship, for it's interpretation is clear within the show, without any background context. And what an impact their marriage has had upon their children. Indeed this is how Kumud has thought of her marriage to be... As we can see per the PMS track itself, she was basing her decision of PMS upon the relation her parents had, and frequently stated how she had "betrayed her parents" through her decision of consummating with Sara... Smrth bhai, I'm starting to also see the parallels between Gunsundari-VC's relationship and the ideals Kumud had in regards to her relationship and to-be-marriage with Saras.

However, stepping away from the novel, I must admit that such cases of shattered dreams through abusive marriages, which of course are a shock for girls with marriages as grounded as their parents (and without a doubt, girls who have grown up around abuse) are common for many. And again, I'm back to being disheartened by Kumud's ill fate... There will be no mutual understanding, mutual fascination, growth--- mentally, emotionally, spiritually----as a duo for Kumud and Pramad as per Gunsundari and VC, much to Kumud's dismay, and much to my own grief (over her unhappiness) I am completely emotionally divided with this new track. Saras' fate and Kumud's fate are completely tearing me to pieces

Arshi... Fantastic lines yet again... I wonder what's going on, just as Jennifer continues to out-do herself every epi, so you continue to make your beautifully broken lines even more memorable to read... And I am left to stare in wonder that how do you it 👏

Today's episode, I watched it, was delivered a jolt of lightning bolt, shook myself and watched it again. That is a first for me.

Again, the primordial motif of "ehsaas" was taken further and so was the symbolic wedding rituals that I could feel only Saras and Kumud were partaking in, mainly because of the facelessness of the dulha... Eg the bidaii and the ghar pravesh scene... The color red binds them at every step. And that is a very powerful hue.

The sequence at the Desai's... You could see how they were literally clinging to even the barest hope that they had made the right decision and then in VC's outburst at Saras, you found out where Kumud got her ego from... Apne bapu se. I liked Dugba's thawing towards Kumari. The mother-daughter moment left me warm inside. Personally, I could never understand Dugba's unchecked indulgence of Kumud and her at-times absolute shunning of Kumari. Hopefully that imbalance will be rectified now. Also, here's hoping that the Desai's won't be shafted off to make room for the new household. And I'd really like to see LN and Gumaan back, with Danny and Sunny... These are loose ends, all... And irrevocably entwined with the Saras-Kumud relation.

On that note, a point has to be made... The irony of all rebuking Saras for what he has done to Kumud. Alas, the Desai cannot even fathom the hell they have pushed their pampered, indulged darling into. Nor could they even imagine that ostensibly when everyone else has forsaken Kumud, Saras still remains... Immobilised yes, but drenched in the same hue that adorns her, enconsed in the same house she now will have to consider her own, and physically present in her hand in the manifestation of a payal. Soulmates... can never be more connected than this.

Coming to the new household... Uneasiness lurks in their opulence and how you wish you could be transported back to the openess of the Desai haveli or even the clear extravagance of LN's Dubai mansion... The change in place, signifying a new act, really leaves an impact. This is the in-laws turf and they dominate. Kumud, alternately bereft, heartbroken, searching and resolved, is cowed. Saras, he died a little inside seeing his beloved pass by his eyes... That momentary image delivered a blow more lethal than any of the merciless blows rained upon his body. For that impacted his soul...

The MIL, she is no Guniyal, but thankfully she appears to be no Gumaan either. Though no one could really take Saraswati's place... But wait, she is already there. With Kumud, always now. The SIL... There is a dignity to her, a good-heartedness that does not seem politically motivated. The FIL... This guy gives me the chill. Lots more happening beyond the surface. And lastly, the dulha... Sigh you really should have remained faceless. His intro gave me a jolt because to all that uneasiness, gunda gardi, and creepiness, now corresponds a name... Pramad.

The actor was good. Hammered the message home. His dialogue delivery could be worked upon, I felt. I hope domestic abuse scenes won't be shown, I'm hoping the time slot factors in that. I also don't see Kumud as being the one to take that. She was terrified, and rightly so. Because her faith in her father turned out wrong. Kumud will now pay the price for being unduly strong. And Saras will offer his penance too. As soulmates are bound to do. And I'm waiting for realization and regret to hit the Desai's though won't dare hold my breath for it...

Thus with Pramad's in-your-face manic-ness, his disrespect of women, his disdain and contempt towards Kumud, SC moves into a whole new territory, an alien one... Gone is the subtleness, the quiet dignity, gone is the classy extravagance, and of course the innocence... Into the deep red has been dropped the first hint of a black hue, all that remains to be seen is whether this black spreads or how soon the red overpowers it. As it should.

IdiotViewer, I enjoy reading your posts. Your narrative style is gripping, to say the least😊

I liked the contrast you highlight between Saras and Pramad, the red and the black, One, a truly noble spirit, soul mate and lover ... The other, base, debauched and violent... Both entwined in Kumud's life in completely opposite ways, as Arshi said, one is her husband without being married to her, while the other is married to her but is no husband at all...

This moment in the drama is finely poised as the action moves from the old-worldly aristocratic haveli to the political powerhouse mansion. I hope to see the characters of Saras and Kumud evolving in the new environment in ways that would not disappoint us who care so much about them!

Iviewer...great summary...

@bold...
1) your prose is lyrical
2) your keen observation brings out so much of the subtlety / perspectives which are beneath the surface
3) and the imagery your posts conjure!... fabulous to say the least...love the description of the mixing of the hues in the end..

I am overstepping a bit since this is CB thread and arshi is our troop-leader...but on behalf of all of us here...would request you to do continue to post regularly...

on DB & Kumari...earlier in this thread post, Veera & I were having a discussion which I will summarize...In large joint families typically the first born (since there is no one else) and / or the last born (because there will be no one else from that generation of parents) are typically the center of attention and most pampered...therefore kumud was always the first among equals..now she's not around and kumari hopefully get DB's emptied mindshare space...

I tend to believe that in last weeks episodes, gumaan's master-stroke was like a close range emotional shot-gun blast for everyone involved...and everyone's instinctive reaction was simply emotional survival, with their minds shutting off their rational parts and simply trying to survive by ending the emotional pain as quickly as possible through their actions / decisions...now the rational parts are slowly awakening and taking back control, but it is too late...unfortunately for all involved, the emotional pain did not go away, but actually turned into a lingering, festering wound..

Lastly, hope I can call you IViewer...I guess when you penned it you were being ironical considering your grasp of the medium...but feels weird to me to write Idiot when responding ...

you could perhaps take consolation that it connotes I(magery)Viewer ...and we are not so particular about names on this post...I go by Hotdogg or Hgg (revised by the great smrth)..

😊

@twila Thank you once again friend, a slightly longer contribution today, perhaps because of the repeated viewing and impact of the episode... Looking forward to next week now with more excitement and less dread =)

@happychappy Thank you =) Yes, the new environment is going to indelibly impact the characters and bring out latent shades in their personalities... For Saras, he will have to reach deep inside him into that untapped reservoir of strength... And Kumud, I honestly dunno where her destiny will take her... But suffice to say, the color red shall always light her path. In more ways than one. Even when she is but poised to fall into the abyss... of pitch blackness.

@Hgg Thank you for the kind words and yes, I have made this place my abode, till SC lets go of its hold on me... If it continues like recently, I would not dare jump ship =) IViewer is 👍🏼 Name as you say is immaterial, what matters is that minds are being stimulated and huge props to Arshi for the initiative =)

Regarding Kumud role in the Desai family, yes, she was the centre, everything revolved around her... And looking at her position now, thrust from a loving world, into a violent one, and that too by loving hands... It's really heartbreaking. I hope Kumari and Dugba dynamic gets elaborated more, we already have a teaser for it, but what intrigues me most is Kusum... She has big shoes to fill... Kusum is the CV's weapon of choice against us hapless viewers and I fear she will be brandished soon...

And friend, your imagery is equally compelling... Close-range shot gun emotional blast. One bullet, that was all it needed. The splinters travelled far and wide, impacting others not even its range, and shattering the ones it aimed for... "lingering, festering wound" for the Desai's that they are actutely feeling the pain of, albeit remaining unaware to its existence. As for Kumud, that wound is going to be rubbed with salt again and again... The salt that is Pramad, and the salty tears contributed by Saras once he is privy to her hell. For that will be his hell too.
