I think to know the true success of any show, you need to wait for many months in the long run to see how much its effected the fans. If i'm not wrong even IPK took its time to pick up on the TRP chart right? They scrapped the whole office track because it wasn't working or whatever.

Not sure if anyone here knows of 'Kahin toh hoga' with the legendary pairing Sujal-Kashish? To say they were huge would be an understatement. This was the time when there were no real platforms like forums. Their story actually strikes close resemblance to Saras-Kumud's story. They fall in love, Kashish gets married to someone else but later she gets widowed and marries Sujal again. But the biggest different there would be that Kashish marries Sujal for revenge which I'm sure Kumud will never do. Anyway, my point is that the show and their jodi became hugely popular over time. You need to give intense love stories their own time.

I agree with you, major factor is the difference of audience and I have always felt the bulk of Indian audience still are elderly people who love saas-bahu shows . IPK took it's time on the charts and wasn't even on the top for much time but still was loved by huge audience, I am sure Samud will also fall in that category soon. It is only that the channel sees the TRP to decide a show's future rather than the popularity of the show. I am fine with the time, actually this confession itself I felt was bit quick but I understand they changed the tracks for the dripping TRP's. Anyways I have stopped seeing this TRP chart, the only thing is hope it doesn't affect the running of the show.

yes. the problem is the audience...and audience numbers...

- even if it tops the UK charts it pulls viewership in the range of 150,00 - 340,000 households max.
- Indian TV viewership audience is at least 135 million households. That's the pot of gold advertisers are looking at.
- UK audience is nice to have but Indian audience is must have. The skew is impossibly loaded towards what Indian households prefer.
-that's why the cut throat nature and focus on trp..and consequent pressure on shows to deliver...
... i have read the industry bench-mark now is give 3 months to hit a trp rating...else an ultimatum to producer to revise story...
..and we see that happening ...
