I was thinking how her ego and spiteful conversations with Saras, her cold behaviour was being criticised in the beginning.. What is s extra ordinary about her that makes her so proud of herself.. big deal if she is beautiful and educated..first graduate from the village..so? well now I feel she has every right to be proud of herself.. I would be if I was her.. its not just the education and moral values she aquired but the inherant courage and conviction she is born with..that can not be aquired.. you either have it or you dont.. Recall the day she told Saras '' I don't lie '' when he asked her why did she lie about selling the pots next morning when they had not even started.. She did it.. She means what she says..Recall the time she told Saras , '' agar kisi ke dukh ko apna maan lo tau use mitana asaan ho jata hai '' She does consider Saras' pain as her own..she feels every pang of it..This time she made a promise to badima and she fulfilled it.. achieved much more than even Dukhba would have imagined.. I have seen pleasant, positive female leads in Indian shows who win people's heart by their goodness.. Kumud has that quality too..what she has and others don't is sound intelligence, courage and conviction.. That is what sets her apart from the rest..atleast for me..
Wow... well said! đ
I agree with you completely. Kumud has that intelligence, thoughtfulness, courage and conviction which set her apart not only from many female leads, but also from her family in general. What I would also like to mention is that there is a humble, modest quality even in Kumud's pride and ego. Yes, she is very proud of herself for her achievements, no doubt, but she doesn't tend to rub her achievements and her goodness in other people's faces. Recall today, how Guman was glaring at her at the dinner table. Kumud is fully aware, from her talk with Saras previously, that Guman had essentially done nothing to ease Saras' pain from his Maa's death. She is fully aware that Guman doesn't really care about her son, yet she kept a calm, serene facial expression as she watched Guman squirm at Saras' and LN's growing communication. She didn't let her pride get in the way and do anything which hinted she was challenging Guman, or if there was a competition between them. Not only that, but Kumud doesn't allow others to step all over her as well. Remember how she said "main koi cheez nahin" to Guman during the mooh-dikhayi scene? If she really feels like someone's getting her wrong, she speaks out, but she does it not in a forceful, defensive manner, but in a manner of calculated authority. And there was a modesty there too, because of the way she presented herself, and in the way she spoke to Guman.
Long ramble short, I completely agree with you! Kumud is a very strong character, and when I think about it, it's very easy to see why Saras is sometimes slightly intimidated by her. đ
