The original work was written in Gujarati.
It's an epic written in 5 volumes over a span of 15 years, set against the hinge of the 19th & 20th centuries.
Not sure if it was ever translated and if it ever was, whether it captured everything what the writer was trying to convey...

My friends tell me it's scope is staggering...for e.g. Kumud is the daughter of the Vidyachatur who is actually the Prime Minister of Ratnanagari in the novel...

Another thing they tell me...Devdas and Saraswatichandra were both written around the same time and both tackled the theme of love's labor lost in a rigid society...key difference was that in Devdas the weakling hero goes straight to the gutter blaming everyone (including his love!) but himself and in Saraswatichandra the hero rises above himself for his love and is always around in any difficulty...

So its phenomenal that SLB who managed to glamorise a weakling Devdas has taken on a show with a totally opposite positive perspective for the same issue.

Thank you for these precious bytes. Helps to appreciate the show more.

Wish I could somehow read the original work!

@Arshicritic

I may disagree with your POV but have to say that you wrote exceptionally well! If it was your original thought then by God! It was awesome! Seemed like it was written by an established poet!! Take a bow dear! 👏

@Hotdogg

Once again thanks for your response. I have responded to it in the thread which I'd made and where you'd copied-pasted it.

It's one of the best analysis of Saras' state of mind. But as I said I did have certain issues which I have responded to in other thread (pardon me I did not check your reply here and responded there first).

Thanks for the info on the book and the story. It makes me more curious about it and also helps understand the show better! 😊

Original, completely original, I am not an established poet by any yardstick, not even a very good one,

But I just love to write. So thank you. I love the appreciation

@Arshicritic

You just love to write and the instinctive, natural flow of words showed it!

Those were really great lines and nothing less than what professional poets write!

Take a bow for coming up with those awesome lines! 👏

lovely post and lovely episode! some people have objections to the lovey dovey scenes..i think they r not out of no where, saras feels for kumud and wants from inside to realize whether this is just infatuation or he actually is in love with her, he gets carried away because he is a passionate man by nature, then reality strikes and he realizes what he is doing and feels guilty..all these scenes will make sense when he will confess his love for kumud..as all these scenes r indication of blossoming of love..it happened in the movie..they both expressed their love for each other, now same will happen in the serial, but dheere dheere...

So true , dear, two young people in love, toofani raat, get a little carried away, lets not judge them too harshly.

They did know where to draw the line. It's all a part of falling in love

Thanks for the interesting info on the book. I don't know how to address you @hotdogg, but couldn't pass by without commenting after reading it. Always been curious about the characters in the book but now reading your comment I can feel the pressure SLB must be having converting such a great piece into a show where everything runs on TRP's and saas bahu concepts. It is really a huge challenge and if he achieves atleast the essence of the book, that itself is a great achievement for him. Wow, I never knew it has 5 vols written in a span of 15 yrs, that really is a huge one.i wish I could read it, it would have been more interesting to see the characters take shape in real but now I am a greater fan of SLB. It takes guts to try something so huge. Yeah Devdas was of self pity and surrenders himself to his sorrows but SC takes the strength from his love and stands up to support it, a really strong character.
