They say anything in films and serials! Oxford or Harvard are merely names to throw around. Also, notice how males in shows and films are supposed to be alumni of such prestigious universities whereas the heroines' educational background is either unknown or they are locally educated, based in some village or small college situated near their neighbourhood.

These serials are also simulcast on Doordarshan, so their target audience is the hoi polloi which neither knows anything nor gives a damn even if given correct information.

living in the UK i know for a fact that oxford university and cambridge have different builidings for different subject areas and they are called colleges. we call the universities which do medicine as medical school. don't know about harvard though but they might do the same i guess.

I think they meant HBS, but shortened it for college. I went to school of engineering, but my parents will always refer to it as 'xyz college'.

Alternatively, they could've just said 'Harvard' and left it at that. To be honest, I also refer to schools in Princeton as 'Princeton University'.

Many folks, even within the US, don't differentiate when speaking about various schools and programs within a college or university.

I think we can let them slide on this one ... :)

I think the show brought a beautiful point! SARAS says that he had gone to Harvard! But Kumud rightfully says 'yet u had to learn pottery from me' goes on to show that going to IIVY LEAGUE schools isn't the be all and end all

Don't think they were trying to make some social statement about Ivy League elitism. After all, they are show Saras is very eligible. Kumud didn't mean to say that pottery lessons triumphed his education. She was just being sassy. She's pretty elitist about her education too as she's the first graduate in her village. She did they best she could given her surrounding, so she wouldn't put down his education.
