i think sometimes in a depressed state of mind a person usually tries to end all hurt and pain in one go.. they try to run away from problems.. rather than facing them..it is more of an escapist route.. When he/she is in that state of mind ,they hardly think about people that they are leaving behind...

If I get straight to the show, Saraswati has always been posed as te ideal woman- a great person, 'sarvagunn sampann' and a lovely mother. From what has been shown, her husband cheats her and marries Gumaan. Okay, the age where she lived(this is from a novel written in the 19th century), this was huge. Then, the women was blamed. She was taunted and stuff. Maybe she thought that if she lives, her son wouldn't get a good upbringing? That doesnt justify her suicide, not for me. As you said, that should have given her more courage- to become her son's mom and dad.

Like they say, no one is perfect. Maybe a perfect Saraswati had less of will power!

In general, suicide is committed bt people in that fraction of moments when their mind stops working, forgets the will, forgets the fact that if life is harsh, it can good too! If, at all, they are alive after their attempt, they regret it..

Also, committing suicide because your spouse was unfaithful to you is such a cliche! So, will you make your child suffer coz you can't cope with your husband's unfaithfulness? What are you trying to say? That the pain your husband gave you is bigger than your love for your child??

As a Mother myself now, I can vouch for the fact that nothing is bigger than your love for your child!
At least it should NOT be!

Suicide should NEVER be an option...I would say it's the 'cowards' way out, as ALL situations pass. Circumstances don't remain same...

@red: same here...

Only ppl who dont have the courage to deal with stress choose to suicide!!!!

I guess saraswati is one of them...maybe she was overcome by grief or shock or tension...
