My first connection with Sarasvati Chandra was the old Nutan starer with the song- mein to bhool chali baabul ka des... we danced it as part of one of those things u do in college.

FF 2013: A new take on the old SC. The baroque style of "larger than life" that is the trademark of SLBansali is already known to us. The constant "running" of his heroines along long corridors or terraces is also not unusual. So, what is "new" really? It is the recreation of magic called love. Romance at its best.

A girl refuses to show her face to her intended groom and the groom who rejects the prospective match owing to reasons known to him alone and not in any ways against the girl in question, is now intrigued by her.

While the girl is obdurate and has taken his refusal as a personal slight that was not meant at all in the first place, she needs to be slowly worn down and dissuaded of her erroneous first impressions.

Critique on the first two weeks- the first introduction of SC doing prayers chest deep in water in Dubai was too far fetched to have any relevance to the actual plot or even be considered for any kind of realism. Apart from the wow view of Gautam's bod, there was no bearing to the story.

Then comes the 2D character sketches of the 2 families- very little depth yet- too cliched and too "obvious"- a very operatic style in mis en scene.

As for the value of a 125 year old piece of fiction, many of the social issues brought up in the novel find no room in the current urban life of India or the NRIs living in places like Dubai minting money. The scriptwriter has however introduced cleverly some good possible current day scenarios that require modern solutions- introduction of internet in a distant village, online medical help, the village issue on "holy waters" etc. Education is certainly the need of the hour and it is getting to be clearly framworked into the thsis statement f this show- now we need to wait and see how these two people who come from very different backgrounds unite on common ground.
