Another year had flown by and today was the day that Anarkali would wait all year for. Yes, it is her birthday. Every year her birthdays were celebrated with great fervor with her family and her people. Of course, things changed a little when Anarkali fell in love with Salim. She would spend the majority of her day with him. Today was her 21st birthday and like any princess would, she too dreamt for a perfect day with her man. She had asked her parents for a day off from her duties so that she could spend time with Salim.
But, as fate would have it she and her Salim had a terrible fight over something as silly as who causes fights more often. [I mean, who fights over who causes the fights?!] The fight happened almost a week ago, and they still weren't on talking terms. Anarkali had lost all hope on Salim coming and surprising her so, she sat in her room sulking about her bad luck. It was almost mid-afternoon and Anarkali had spent the majority of her day thinking about her fight with Salim and why her fat little ego wasn't letting her go to Salim and apologize so, she could run into his strong, comforting arms.
It was around 6 PM when one of her helpers came in and told her that there was an injured puppy near the old well in the big garden behind the ladies apartments. Anarkali rushed out of her chambers forgetting it was her birthday. The guards were surprised to see their well-behaved princess run through the corridors of the palace. Anarkali ran as fast her slender legs could take her to the well. She was out of breath, by the time she reached the well, but she couldn't find the dog no matter how hard she looked. It was getting dark outside, and she thought it wise to return to the palace before someone sent troops out to search for her. Just as she placed her right foot forward someone grabbed her from behind and covered her mouth. She felt herself being thrown over a man's shoulder and soon, she was face to face with the object of her thoughts all day.
Of course, Anarkali should've been happy, but she was rather infuriated. Why? No one could fathom. Ah! Mood swings are indeed a dangerous thing! Anarkali tried to release his strong grip on her, when that didn't work, she resorted to giving him the nasty eye in hopes that looks really do kill.
"Why are you so angry, jaan?" he drawled sexily.
His use of the endearment only served to make her more furious, "don't you dare call me that!"
He crooked that damn eyebrow and smirked, "Why? It's my right."
Damn this man and his smirks! He knows what to use! Okay, maybe it's easier to appease Anarkali than Anarkali herself thought. Her mood swings proved themselves mighty once again when Anarkali decided to just bury her head in his chest and held him tightly.
"I missed you so much! I waited for you all day! Idiot!"
He chuckled as her ego found its way even now.
"Okay my princess, get ready quickly."
Anarkali shamelessly grinned, "you planned a surprised?"
Salim swore under his breath and smiled through gritted teeth, "no, no surprise. I just have my white horse here waiting for us to ride off happily into the sunset, you know. Why have surprises anymore?" He added as a package manifested itself, "of course, you can always change into these clothes that I picked out."
She squealed, grabbed the package and rushed to change. When she emerged in a dazzling vision of royal blue and gold, he was mesmerized. He still counted his lucky stars that this remarkable woman was his. He was indeed a very lucky man.
He pulled Anarkali into his arms once again and fed her some sweets and formally wished her happy birthday. He helped her onto his white horse and they rode off happily into the orangish red sunset. Fairytales are Anarkali's favourite and she was grateful to be living hers with her very own prince charming. (Even though she tells him otherwise every once in a while.)
