Sonia was only interested in Ranvir's money. She wanted to marry him and then divorce him for alimony. Plus she was cheating on Ranvir with another guy. Sadhna found out and tried to tell Vasu and Ranvir but they wouldn't believe her. Eventually Sadhna found the guy Sonia cheated on Ranvir with and convinced him to tell the truth. The truth came out on Ranvir-Sonia's engagement.

She was just a money/gold digger! she was double timing both Ranvir and her first fiance Rahul or whatever his name was. Apparantly, Soniya trapped Rahul in her fake love and got engaged to him and went to usa for higher studies which Rahul sponsored, after promising that they will get married when she returns. In usa she met Ranvir and came to know about his affluent financial status, so she trapped Ranvir too in her love while Rahul was in dark about these and was waiting for her eagerly in INdia. Ranvir comes to India for Saalekh wedding reception and brings soniya with him too. After realizing Ranvir is so rich, she planned to get married to him with intention to later divorce him after getting huge alimony/property which was foiled by Sadhana's efforts with help from Rahul on the engagement day of Soniya and Ranvir and engagement doesn't happen obviously and Soniya gets much deserved slap from one & only slapper in Bidaai - Vasu..
