I don't think that was their 'aim', unless the bidaai creatives have some kind of undercover conspiracy....I believe they just completely lost sight of the prejudices they were supposed to dispel. I think they began with good intentions but as with all of these shows, they forget their aim. For the sake of inventing twists and turns they sacrificed the plot and made dark people end up being negative.
I wonder if the creatives have any idea how deep the prejudice against dark skinned people runs in society...not just in india but all over the world, especially in middle-eastern and south asian cultures. If they did they would never have created a show where they lost their message and promoted the fair Sadhna holier-than-thou sara khan.
Vasu was always meant to be evil, so why suddenly turn the Choti ma evil? Because she is dark skinned ofcourse. It was in her blood, and eventually the evil revealed itself.
Ragini's mum is shown to be manipulative, jealous and small minded - what a surprise! she is dark skinned! And her fair skinned husband is SO pateint with her!
Ragini is presented as a weak character who alwayes needed her beautiful dominant, white skinned sister Sadhna to rescue her and fight for her
Then - Ragini turns evil!!! How dare she after her fair sadhna had sacrificed sooo much for her, married a mad men etc etc.
And now Ragini's daughter...she is in the shadow of Khushi, but this time the dark/white differences have been hidden behind a so-called maturity difference.
Like sadhna her daughter is meant to be more mature and capable and more sympathy is shown towards her because her mother is dead and she has already began to sacrifice her happiness for the dark skinned daughter of ragini.
The white/dark war is starting again, though it is hidden well. (They think) I don't understand why ragini's daughter can't be self-sacrificing rather than selfish? Why can't she be shown making hard choices.
Why does the white girl always get the option of making choices. sadhna always got the viewers love and sympathy. Her daughter already has started to claim that place.
Are they going to turn Ragini jealous and manipulative soon when its time for the two girls to marry?
MOST LIKELY
That's the curse of Bidaai and every other Indian programme which claims it is fighting to show darker woman in a more positive light.
Those of you who think this show shows dark skinned people in a bad light...you should see Laagi Tujhse Lagan...which has lines that should be taken off air because of its colour prejudice. it is disgusting. the main character is fair and due to some problem covered her face in dark make-up to 'look ugly'.
If they wanted to show trials of a dark girl, why not choose a dark actress?
Worse still when the girl's make-up is in danger of coming off, she blackens herslef with MUD and CHARCOAL!!!! what kind of message does that give? that dark skinned people are dirty or black/burnt? :/
She even talks to herself and says 'why don't I reveal my pretty white face?' it's laughable, but infuriating.
