May be she didn't expect such experimentation on her character lol.Otherwise she would have run away too.

I totally didn't mean to imply that Parul couldn't have carried on the mature role. Sorry if it came across that way! She is a brilliant actress and can do any role! Same for Angad! Both had the confidence to carry on their roles...I was just saying that other factors might have played a role in hers and Angad's decison as well--and I only thought about this after the articles about pressure and Bidaai will end..Both seemed unhappy to me from the articles..so I just tried to figure out exactly why they stayed..
Parul's first love has always been Bidaai and it would remain so! I think all 4 love Bidaai and would never have dreamed of quitting it..It's just that circumstances changed and they didn't have any options left..It's just what I'd like to believe..I have no idea what's true or not..but I'd just like to continue to respect all 4 equally..
I don't think Parul expected such experimentation either..but from purely a professional POV, as an actress, she got to portray a different shade to Ragini, and with her redeeming, she got a couple awesome scenes! Yes she received a LOT of hate because of it..so much that she had to come out and say that Parul and Ragini are different..

I don't think that was their 'aim', unless the bidaai creatives have some kind of undercover conspiracy....I believe they just completely lost sight of the prejudices they were supposed to dispel. I think they began with good intentions but as with all of these shows, they forget their aim. For the sake of inventing twists and turns they sacrificed the plot and made dark people end up being negative.

I wonder if the creatives have any idea how deep the prejudice against dark skinned people runs in society...not just in india but all over the world, especially in middle-eastern and south asian cultures. If they did they would never have created a show where they lost their message and promoted the fair Sadhna holier-than-thou sara khan.
Vasu was always meant to be evil, so why suddenly turn the Choti ma evil? Because she is dark skinned ofcourse. It was in her blood, and eventually the evil revealed itself.
Ragini's mum is shown to be manipulative, jealous and small minded - what a surprise! she is dark skinned! And her fair skinned husband is SO pateint with her!
Ragini is presented as a weak character who alwayes needed her beautiful dominant, white skinned sister Sadhna to rescue her and fight for her
Then - Ragini turns evil!!! How dare she after her fair sadhna had sacrificed sooo much for her, married a mad men etc etc.
And now Ragini's daughter...she is in the shadow of Khushi, but this time the dark/white differences have been hidden behind a so-called maturity difference.
Like sadhna her daughter is meant to be more mature and capable and more sympathy is shown towards her because her mother is dead and she has already began to sacrifice her happiness for the dark skinned daughter of ragini.
The white/dark war is starting again, though it is hidden well. (They think) I don't understand why ragini's daughter can't be self-sacrificing rather than selfish? Why can't she be shown making hard choices.
Why does the white girl always get the option of making choices. sadhna always got the viewers love and sympathy. Her daughter already has started to claim that place.
Are they going to turn Ragini jealous and manipulative soon when its time for the two girls to marry?
MOST LIKELY
That's the curse of Bidaai and every other Indian programme which claims it is fighting to show darker woman in a more positive light.
Those of you who think this show shows dark skinned people in a bad light...you should see Laagi Tujhse Lagan...which has lines that should be taken off air because of its colour prejudice. it is disgusting. the main character is fair and due to some problem covered her face in dark make-up to 'look ugly'.
If they wanted to show trials of a dark girl, why not choose a dark actress?
Worse still when the girl's make-up is in danger of coming off, she blackens herslef with MUD and CHARCOAL!!!! what kind of message does that give? that dark skinned people are dirty or black/burnt? :/
She even talks to herself and says 'why don't I reveal my pretty white face?' it's laughable, but infuriating.

I too am quite disappointed with bidaai these days. Earlier before ranbir & raginis marriage the show used to highlight good qualities of a dark girl but now its all about jelousy & envy & all that. This is really sad & the CV's need to change these track & give a positive message.
Sweety its nice to see someone raising a voice against such prejudices, I appreciate your topic. Such prejudice has always been in our country. I had watched one debate on this issue on ndtv & I had like to share a clip with u guys:

i thnk RAJAN SHAHI has no new concepts...that is y he himself repeating the history...
we are living in society too...we are not aliens....n i hv nvr seen ppl critising ny person be it male or female on the basis of color.....
esp if that person is well educated...belongs to gud family...have gud moral values...nobody goes after the color....
i knw in past...this thng did exit....bt now the scenario has bn completely changed.....ppl are more responsible n matured enough to judge a person by nature n nt by color complexion...
i mean its disgusting to c such things happening in a show n taht too wid a lil girl tammy....not to talk abt serail....jus imagine awt impression that girl is taking frm her role of tamana...that she is dark n evrybdy discrimainates her....this cn affect her real life too...
this thng hardly exist....if it does toh its jus the mentality of the ppl wid poor consience....n i thnk RS is one of them...

And I don't even want to talk abt Choti ma and kaushi cos they were just the supporting characters

Coming to Ragini, she started off being an idol,a role model to dusky girls. She was strong, loves her family, respects her parents and as so many said refused to marry a greedy guy and all that vanished(sorry to say)when she fell in love or I should say probably when she got married. She became a doormat,a wimpy wife who just let her husband walk over her.I always felt it is cos she feels that Ranvir did an ehsaan on her by marrying her despite being ddark. Her cringe-worthy dialogues like aapki pooja, falling at his feet reinforce that more. What was the CT's trying to say? That a dark skinned girl is just grateful that a guy married her despite of her not so favourable colour!that's the first step of degradation and then came the rift track.People might say many things that she used to be like this from the start and all that but I never for once would believe that she used to be demanding like she did for the fairy dress nor she is disrespectful to her father and her world is her husband. That was not ragini.Once again proved that dark skinned girls are insecure and low on confidence.I too read many comments on YT and they are just horrible.People were unable to differentiate Parul and Ragini.Started off being something but ended up being another.

Frankly the CT's didn't do her any injustice but she still chose to stay loyal. That shows the goodness in her.

kudos to u Di for watever u've said abt Ragini...... gr8 analysis !!!
coming to Kaushi n choti ma ........i agree they are supporting actors but the story did focus on them at some point of time where they were shown to be bad , evil , selfish , insecure n wat not........ all the bad qualities were shown present in dark ppl in this show ........ n the most idiotic thing is that their such behaviour was shown attached to their colour ....... they were shown bad bcoz they were dark ......... which is no less than demeaning darker ppl to the core ....... this show has done nothing but made life more difficult for dark / dusky ppl ............ as some ppl mentioned abt their personal experience regarding wat all they had to face bcoz of this .........they have just worsened this issue even more ....... n now i just saw another promo where it was shown Khushi sacrificing fairy's role for the sake of Tamanna .......... the same old story ........ the fair sister doing sacrifice for the darker one ........ i dont understand what the hell on earth are these ppl trying to prove ........ dat dark ppl cannot get anything on their own credit ...... sumone needs to sacrifice again n again for their happiness ........... wat nonense !!!
also they alwayz showed Ragini n others calling her as ugly ........ does being dark make sumone ugly ........ are Bipasha , Rani , Kajol , Priyanka , Konkana , Lara etc all ugly ???
NO !!!! especially Lara n Priyanka ...... the miss universe n miss world peagent winners .......!!!
as i've already said colour can never be the criteria to judge sumone's beauty ......... n they being miss universe n world peagent winners prove this thing ......... then what are trying to prove thru this show by calling Ragini ugly again n again !!!
i agree ppl prefer fair girls in rural areas of India coz they have backward thinking .............but a girl's mother herself taunting abt her colour , ppl making fun of her bcoz of her colour , skul children teasing , etc is just too much ........ such things dont happen in real life even .......... showing such things once is enough but showing it again again ........ n making dark ppl appear as ugly everytime ....... this is beyond the limit !!!

Color and choices based on it is very subjective.

Since ancient times, the color "white" have been regarded as a symbol of purity, while "dark" was regarded as a symbol of "evil".

I have no set those things ... so I am not saying that those are my way of looking at things. But we will find even in the Holy Books of all religions where such symbolisms have been used.

Helen of Troy was described as a fair "light" color person in the iliad by Homer. Someone whose face could launch a thousand ships ... and Cleopatra was told to be a half Greek (check history).

More recently, the colonial powers who ruled India were white skinned people ... another addition to the age old perception of WHITE SUPERIORITY.

No matter how much Indians seem to claim that "its not a problem to be dark" ... still, Fair and Lovely gets its largest share of profit from South Asia, while other fairness creams etc are also BIG BUSINESSES here.

Indians "LOVE" the fair skin. Men or Women REGARDLESS. While the women seems mute sometimes when a dark man is selected for her, and that may be because of the lack of equal status of men and women in our society... otherwise I always found south asian women preferring fair skinned men over dark skinned men.

Why only Indians? ... There have been many studies on human behavior, and it was found that PEOPLE (with male in particular) prefer the person with "light features". For example, blondes had (and still have) a great impression over men from Europe or even the East. Due to their "light" hair color. This pushes the average "white" girl to try bleaches and WHAT NOT to get her hair BLONDE ... unfair? ... YES ... the world was never fair ...

Study marketing and you will know that all these so called "unfairness" gives way to big businesses... and thus the world remained and remains an unfair place.

WE DONT CHOOSE OUR COLOR WHEN WE COME TO THIS WORLD ... LETS NOT MAKE IT SO IMPORTANT AS TO DEPRESS OR IMPRESS US.

However, to each their own ... we all have varied tastes.

Bidaai sure has done the wrong thing by showing dark shades of those characters that are dark such as Ragini (during the rift track), Kaushalya, and choti maa. Rajan better realize it and apologize in media as it has hurt the sentiments of those who are dark. He could have portrayed these characters in a much better way, rather than making audience hate them at some point.
