I think the world is changing--I think most part of the world has changed coz I can really see 'Tanned' models make their way through, black people(I am not being a racist here, just differentiating--Couldn't think of another way to do that.)making their way into beauty contests like Ms.World,Ms.Universe etc!!
India too is changing like I mentioned previously.Tanned models are ruling here too!(Deepika,Priyanka,Bips etc)
It's better to look at the positives--Some people will never change, that's a different thing and those people can never progress!
But majority will change in times to come--Most of the world has,it's some part of the world(Asia, mainly)which has to!
That will happen too-Provided,2012 isn't the end of the world,LOL!😆

One of my friends told me about these kids

8-9 years old the 8 year old kid does more akad cause she is 'fairer' 'cuter' and their parents actually encourage her behavior by taking her nakhra cause she is youngest one and fairest. The relatives also address those kids as savli vs. gori (saaf rang hai uska)

I mean 8-9 year olds poor kids look at what they are being taught.

@ ShoNaa , I completely agree... When I had my son GOSH the environment was TOTALLY different. Every one was soo happy. Thank God my husband is very very very normal and nice. He dosen't differentiate but the society , dosen't matter where you are still effects.

I remember when i had my first child, a girl , I got calls from older women, they were actually saying to me 'its ok, they are a gift from GOD don't worry, don't feel bad'

After some exhausting labor I was not thinking straight totally hazed up I was confused at what she was saying and It took me quite a while to figure it out. I was totally shocked and told my husband he was equally shocked and said , she is old and this is what she knows and thus she has reacted in such a way.

So you are right, the women think and say such things because this is what they have seen !

People tend to "feel" for fair ppl...so true.

When my older sister was going to be born, in that hospital all the babies born were boys that day , so everybody got happy thinking that my mom would have a son too lol😆😆

Boys definitely dnt have to go through as much girls do.

If love is blind ... color shouldn't matter!

But then for the general masses ... what can be said? ... Sometimes color becomes a scale to measure beauty!

Due to traditional, historical and many other different factual and debatable factors the POV of some of us became like this (i.e. prefering the light/fair complexion).

White being the traditional symbol of purity and clarity, had to have an impact in the phsyche of people.

Not to mention how the LIGHT color effects the mind and gains people's attention.

The reason some MOMS are after a fair skinned girl, may be because they feel that it would be better - either because of ignorance (because color cannot and should not be a measuring tool, as then everything becomes so unfair) or because of their traditional view of its aesthetic value.

We know that the GORA RANG was popular even before the British arrived in India. We know these through the early and medieval books and records (stories, history ... the description of fairies and beautiful men/women etc), and thus the blame cannot be thrown on the Brits either.

Although I wont go as far as saying that its all a part of RACISM ... but I certainly feel that looking deeper than the skin would be more helpful for parents who decide the most suitable girl for their son or the most suitable boy for their daughters.
There are dark boys who often remain upset as they feel being discriminated directly or indirectly against their fairer brothers (remember the "Hi Handsome HI HANDSOME" adv? for Fair & Handsome cream). This concept of BLACK AND WHITE is pedominent among women ALOT more then in men.

As some people already mentioned how 'VASU' was the craziest after color! Men might PREFER the white spouse, but they can be happy with a darker spouse too. While for women, they would rather prefer someone fairer than darker (e.g. both times Ragini prefered men with a fairer complexion ... whether these were coincidents is a debatable issue ... and in my POV - all selections are made through weighting different dimentions and attributes of the future partner).

However, Indians do give a higher preference to INDIAN fair skinners rather than foreign ones. Otherwise Europeans would be the most cherished dream of every INDIAN SAAS. And I dont think it is (although the MILs are actually more easy and welcoming to western DIL or SIL these days ... which is ofcourse good. But I dont think that COLOR has a role to play here).

It all ends up in personal choices ... the only thing to be removed should be IGNORANCE ... otherwise everything else seem just fine.

Heart can be beautiful for any skin color (and vice versa) ... and love ofcourse has no color!

:)

I know right!
God knows how much make up she puts on to get that 'Fair' look!
Sucks really--She herself said that it's not the beauty but the attitude which matters then why should she endorse fairness creams?😕
Beats me--But well,money factor maybe!
And Deepika is also endorsing fairness creams when she is actually tanned!
None the less, people like Deepika and Priyanka the way they are--So I can say that it's a bit of a change!!

@OmShanti1111:-I know..Like I already said, some people never change..Those people can never progress in life--It's their loss!
