i agree with u this problem occurs with everyone no matters how her personality is even girls r fairer than other shortcum occurs with them about there size or height i mean how cum a girl who is little fat can becum thin still trying 2 do so but her body is not reacting & how a girl who is short in height can increase her height . i'm also facing this type of problem. its seems like that its ur punishment that u have sumthing odd which is not desired 2 the society.

You know what? Two people who are very close to me have been victims of this skin color discrimination! One is my mother and the other - a best friend of mine.

My mother is very beautiful but she has a very dark complexion while all her sisters are very fair. My mom tells me that she was humiliated and ill treated by a cousin of hers who was very fair and beautiful because my mom was dark. Even when my grandparents tried to find matches for her she was rejected by many of them because of her color. She had to face problems initially at her in-laws (my dad's parents' place) also because of that. She was so frustrated and broken by the experiences in her life that she prayed hard and wished that I should be born fair, to the extent that the first thing she asked the doctor after her delivery was whether I was fair or not! She was so happy to learn that I was born with a very very fair complexion(it is another thing that I have not been able to completely maintain that complexion due to pollution and sun tan 😭😭 yet I am considered fair by every one ). But all that she has experienced only made my mother stronger and more determined to fight with everyone and win respect for herself which she did! She is loved by every one and held in a high regard at her workplace or wherever she goes. There are so many people who look up to her and come to her to seek advice and support , they all adore her and bless her. Her great nature ultimately prevailed over her skin color. I know for a fact that many people do not even like my mom's cousin. For every one person who at least likes my mother's cousin there are 100 people who surely love my mom.

My friend is very dark and not a very great looker, she happened to like a guy when she was in college. The guy was aware of her feelings but he treated her so awfully and never left an opportunity to ridicule her. She was so heart broken and depressed that at times she even contemplated suicide but we always manged to stop her and stood by her. She is doing extremely good for herself now, she is a brilliant student and is looked up to by many of her peers in her university!

So what I want to say is, we should not let the others take us down. Instead, we should fight back and make them swallow their words because we know what we are! Good nature/Inner beauty always has the ability to do that!

Great post! And thanks to everyone else also for sharing your stories!

Many ppl raise the question sometimes if what is shown in this show is indeed true and is color prejudice really that prevalent even in 'modern' India.....all of your stories show that this does indeed still sadly exist in society.

This show is tackling a very important issue in a beautifully sensitive manner....Kudos to the Bidaai team!

Thanks soo much for this post...I agree with you 100%. Living in America, I don't think the dark/fair thing is a big issue here...I'm fair like my mom and my sister is so much darker than me, but we all agree that she's the 'prettier' one in the family. I have been in many unfair situations where she gets the better end. Still, it's much more enjoyable to read the book than to stare at the cover (unless you can't "read" 😛). I would rather live with someone who could make me smile than with somebody who had good looks but a dull personality.

And it really is unfair that women are put up against all of these size zero fashion models and expected to look as pretty as all of them, while men can go around doing whatever they want. Not everyone is born with fair skin or looking like a model, but everyone has a chance at developing a wodnerful personality. And to all of those beautiful women discriminated against out there, I'm sure that Prince Charming will come along one day to read your book 😉

this is a wonderful topic for discussion....i faced a similar situation in my younger days at school/college. ur discriminated based on ur looks/color and no one is interested in knowing u.....i had lower self-confidence.......well atleast thats what I felt.......but things changed slowly and for better.....i am a much confident person now........

i still know a few people whose first words on seeing a person are....she/he is so fair......beautiful looks...be it a baby or an adult.....i cannot understand how someone cannot see beyond beauty and looks......to top it they do not believe that there are discriminations based on color/looks in the society.......they readily disagree abt it.......this wonderful show should be an eye opener for everyone

Thank you cool guy, i sure hope so,

I don't understand how a fair person is beautiful..beaty comes from within and from good deeds and acts...

My cousins wife is so very fair and is gorgeous..almost as much as she would get dirty by just a little touch...but she is such a bad person inside..she creates so much tension in the family and likes to twist innocent words into something vicious..she also doesn't really treat her kids right but all this doesn't seem to matter...

All people can see is that she is fair and thus has to be beautiful...I live in a country where dark complextion denotes beauty. I see some of my fairest white friends run to the tanning salon or get tanning creams so that they can be darker and yet Indian people see dark people as unattrative. I watch bidai and I think that Ragini is the prettier one, yes Sadna is gorgeous too but Ragini has an exotic beauty about her which no one else does on the serial...
