Chapter 4 :
After a lot of thinking, Ranveer decided what to do. He silently went to his room and closed the door but did not bolt it.
Meanwhile Randhir was thinking why Ranveer hasn't come till now to convince him, he thought he would be here the next minute he came up to his room. He was sure something was wrong; his house was never silent except when Ranveer is asleep or whenever he went to school, but now, he was home. Randhir was worried. So he went down silently and searched for Ranveer, he was no where to be seen. He had already asked Ramu kaka about Ranveer's whereabouts but Ramu kaka did something he never thought about in his wildest dreams... He IGNORED him. "Must be planned by Mr. Shaitan," he thought. Randhir was way too concerned so he kept searching for Ranveer in the house. Finally, he went to Ranveer's room and breathed a sigh of relief. He was in his room playing a game the laptop. He went inside and made his presence clear, it went unnoticed. He coughed one more time, unnoticed again. He coughed once more, unnoticed again. Randhir then understood that Ranveer is deliberately ignoring him. He snatched the laptop thinking Ranveer might scold him or atleast glance at him once. Ranveer silently sent out of the room. Now, Randhir had too much, this was the very first time Ranveer had ignored him. He was hurt. He sat on the bed thinking what to do. His thoughts made their way to his memory lane again. *The first time she had ever hurt him, EMOTIONALLY.*
FLASHBACK :-
CANTEEN :
After the hectic day of work for the dream team, they settled down in the canteen and decided to chill out for a while. They started playing Truth-or-Dare, tired to think of anything else. Jiggy spun the bottle. It stopped in front of Parth. He chose truth. Randhir volunteered to ask a question. No one objected but were a bit scared but they were too tired to argue.
"How does it feel being an opportunist?" asked Randhir sternly.
All eyes turned towards him as their worst fears had come true. Sanyukta slapped her forehead and held Parth's hand which didn't go unnoticed by Randhir. This act just made him angrier.
Parth smiled and replied with a calm voice, "Randhir, the minute I saw Vardhan Sir's way of handling students I liked him. I wanted to be his student. So, even before your team which btw, is now mine too, I decided to join this college. So even if you'll would lose I would have joined this college."
Randhir was baffled by his reply and replied rudely, "We would never lose! I am the captain and I would never let my team lose."
Silence.
Taking advantage of the silence Sanyukta spun the bottle again and this time it stopped at Jiggy. He was compelled to choose dare by Sanyukta.
"So Jiggy, I have been watching lately, you like a girl. So your dare is to propose to her now," Sanyukta said grinning widely. She knew Jiggy and Kaustuki like each other but are not able to confess. Kaustuki's face turned a deep shade of red and she was eyeing Sanyukta sheepishly. Jiggy finally gathered some courage, went towards Kaustuki and proposed to her. She nodded in yes and the crowd hooted for the new-couple. Jiggy came back to his place and muttered a thankyou to Sanyukta. Randhir just smiled thinly at his friend. The bottle was spun again and it stopped in front of Sanyukta. She chose dare. Vidushi volunteered to give a dare to her.
"So Sanyukta, everyone here knows how much you and Randhir hate each other. So why don't you tell Randhir something you always wanted to tell but you never did?" told Vidushi.
Now everyone were hell scared. Even Parth was. Silence. Breaking the ice, Sanyukta finally spoke up.
"Firstly thankyou for the dare Vidushi," told Sanyukta calmly. She turned towards Randhir, she started, "You know MCP, you're intolerable. You're one of the worst guys I've ever met till date. I can't even spend 10 minutes silently with you. You are that annoying. I wonder whom you will marry, I pity that girl. People cannot even bear you for a second and that girl has to bear you for a lifetime. Tch tch tch, sad. Btw can't you be a little mature sometimes? Parth is your roommate. He is so mature. Why don't you take classes from him and try to be a little mature sometimes? I agree, you are a rare genius but mannerisms are important too, which you completely lack. I have no idea how your mother raised you up, an MCP you are you must not have respected your mother either," told Sanyukta rudely.
Randhir who was cool all the while lost his cool at the last statement made by her. "How could she talk about his mother, this is just a freaking game?" he thought. Jiggy knew that Randhir hated to talk about his mother and so wanted to stop Sanyukta from speaking further but Randhir stopped him from doing so and Sanyukta continued, "I would love to meet your mother Randhir. I would love to ask her how you were bought up. Am sure she must have hated you herself," told Sanyukta and everyone there were shocked at her statement. A tear escaped from Randhir's eye and Parth was the only one who noticed it. He immediately caught hold of Sanyukta's hand before she could continue. She realized what she had told and wanted to apologise but before she could do so Randhir got up and left from there calmly preparing himself for a date with his punching bag.
Jiggy asked her whether she was in her senses. Sanyukta was herself shocked at what she had told and regretted it. She had to apologize to him for what she had uttered. She cursed herself and left to her hostel room. She was sure he would be hell angry and come-what-may she would surely apologize to him.
He came out of his trance by a loud a scream. He at once, ran down as fast as he could and saw Ranveer writhing in pain as he had hit himself unknowingly to the rack beside him. He awarded himself with a 2 cm long cut. Randhir at once ran to his son and caught his leg tight and shouted at the servant to get the first-aid box. When the box arrived, Ranveer didn't let Randhir help him, he was adamant. Randhir knew there was no use trying to persuade him so he let kaka attend him. The bleeding stopped.
Night...
Both of them sat for dinner.
Silence...
Silence...
Silence...
Ranveer hadn't exchanged a word with Randhir the whole day. Randhir tried to make him talk somehow but he had not even spoken once. He tried to trap him by acting that he was in pain by holding his hand and limping saying that he tripped in the washroom. But it was of no use, Ranveer didn't fall for it.
"Junior, how about I take you to your favorite place tomorrow?" Randhir asked acting too excited. He just wanted to hear his voice once.
No response.
"Okay how about I cook something tomorrow morning?" he asked.
No response.
"How about we go and eat ice-cream after dinner?" Randhir asked expecting a reply. Ranveer loved chocolates and ice-creams. He waited.
No response.
"How about I get you your favorite chocolates? Ferrero Rocher?" he asked finally. Now he was sure that Ranveer might respond. Ferrero Rocher were his favorite chocolates.
No reponse.
This was the limit now. "How can he stay without talking to his senior?" Randhir thought. On the other hand, Ranveer was dying to talk to his senior. He wanted to play games, run around the whole house and have fun with Randhir. But he was determined in convincing Randhir to attend the reunion. So he kept silent.
"Oh c'mon now, Seriously?" Randhir asked faking anger.
No response.
"I don't want to leave you alone. I won't be able to stay there without you," Randhir told.
Ranveer was happy. He finally started to talk about the topic.
"Since when you started being dependant?" Ranveer asked finally ending his maun-vrat.
"From the day you started to walk and speak," Randhir replied.
"Oh please, if you're not going then be ready for this silent treatment," Ranveer told sounding angry. Yes, he was angry.
"Arey but.." Randhir trailed off.
"Yeah? I'm listening," Ranveer told.
"I can't leave you alone," Randhir replied with a pout.
"Oh c'mon on senior, I am not a kid," he replied pointing towards himself, "and moreover kaka will be with me."
"Haan baba, hum chote baba ke saath rahenge," kaka intervened, "aap jayiye."
"See," Ranveer told with a winning smile.
"Par I'll miss you no? You won't?" Randhir asked with a pout.
"Why are laptops, internet and video-calling there for?" Ranveer shouted.
Now Randhir was angry. He had kept his cool until now but was now furious.
"I WON'T GO," Randhir shouted emphasizing every word.
"WHY?" Ranveer too shouted.
"Because I don't wa-" Randhir stopped realizing what he was about to tell.
"Because you what?" Randhir told raising one eye-brow.
"Shutup Ranveer, go and sleep. End of the discussion. I don't want a word from you anymore. Off you go to sleep, NOW!" he shouted stressing the word Ranveer.
Ranveer shed a tear which did not go unnoticed by Randhir. He silently went to his room and closed the door.
"What did I just call him?" Randhir asked kaka.
"Ranveer," kaka replied upset.
"Shit! No wonder that tear came out," Randhir mumbled and ran upstairs.
Randhir couldn't bear his champs' tears, not even one. They were too precious. Randhir never called Ranveer by his name. They always called eachother senior-junior. Sometimes, Randhir even called him champ. Only if Randhir is really upset or angry he calls him by his name and Ranveer calls him dad only when he is upset or angry.
Ranveer sat in his room silently. He was not crying because he was determined to send his dad to the reunion. He decided to do continue the drama. He chuckled thinking that his dad's anger just made it easier for him. He knew his dad would come up any minute and oh, there he was.
"Champ?" Randhir told slowly opening the door.
No response.
"Am sorry champ. I know I overacted," he told coming towards him.
No response.
"Do anything but don't ignore me. Please?"
No response.
"Okay now what do you want me to do?"
"Just give me a proper reason for not attending the reunion," Ranveer told.
"I told you that I won't be able to st-" Randhir started but was interrupted.
"Oh please! I asked for a proper reason," Ranveer retorted.
"How can I tell him the actual reason?" Randhir thought, "He is still a boy of six, would he even understand?"
"See, you do not have a proper reason!" Ranveer told and went to sleep without wishing his dad a goodbye.
Randhir knew there was no reason fighting with him. He knew that he was stubborn. He knew that if he didn't agree then he would not talk to him. "Genes!" he thought again but this time he wasn't thinking about himself.
"Okay fine! Stop it now, I'll go!" Randhir finally told.
"What?" Ranveer shouted and jumped out of his bed.
"Yes, I'll go," Randhir told calmly.
"I love you senior," Ranveer told and jumped onto his dad happily.
"Okay okay, now go sleep. You have school tomorrow," Randhir told.
"Sure, but tomorrow we have to go shopping. You have to pack, don't you? We'll buy t-shirts and jeans for you. You're going to stay there for a week and you surely didn't wear these formal things in your college days I suppose," Ranveer replied.
"Yeah, we'll go shopping after your school I promise and you'll select. Happy? Now go and sleep, I don't want you to get late to school," Randhir told.
"Okay," Ranveer replied and pretended to sleep.
When Randhir was out of his room, he silently tip-toed downstairs, took his dad's phone and typed a message, "Mission accomplished. He's attending." and sent it to dada. He deleted the message and went to his room and slept happily.
Meanwhile Randhir was preparing himself to face his college-mates, to be precise, to face her after 4 years.
He was scared, yes, the great Randhir Singh Shekhawat was scared! Did he want to meet her? Hell no, he didn't. He was happy with champ and he wanted it to be that way. He had no idea where fate was taking him...
He tried to sleep, but maybe for that night, sleep was upset with him. It refused to visit him. He closed his eyes, trying to catch some sleep but no, sleep was too unwavering. Tired, he got up and looked out of the window. Her thoughts were too dominating. After turning and tossing in his bed for a few hours he finally slept.
