Ola peeps! I think I get most of my ideas on trains... As I was watching two droplets race down the window of the train (yes, I am still a child), this poem came up... And the following OS was the result! I hope you like it... Slightly sad, but Happy Readings!
There will be plenty of mistakes guys😆... what is proof-reading?
The Blue: Flashbacks!
You can read these flashback parts, as what Randhir is remembering (as a narrator) while writing the poem (bold)!
Jab Tak Hai Jaan!
As he sat down at this study that was scattered with files and scraps of paper, all he could see was that photo of her! Perched on this desk, the only thing that meant more to him more than anything in this world... Her presence in his life was his sole entity; his obsession!
It was a storming night, yet he felt oddly at comfort with it... At least the silence of his home was not engulfing him like every other night... The loud claps of thunder and the rain together were giving this recluse much needed company after a long time.
As he started to rain, his own tears could not be stopped... Almost felt like they were crying for each-other... For each other's pain, their solitary confinement, the cruelty of life in general.
He started to pen down whatever came to his mind, as he remembered his vivid memories of her... Her fragrance, her zeal, her outlook towards life in general!
Teri aankhon ki namkeen mastiyaan
Teri hansi ki beparwaah gustakhiyaan
Teri zulfon ki lehraati angdaiyaan
Nahi bhoolunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan
"Jiggy! You might as blow up this college, that too without the need of a bomb!" said an irritated Randhir, as he watched the smoke coming from the broken machine filling the lab with a smoky smell.
On hearing tinkling sounds from a pair of anklets, Randhir turned around to see her come in like she was walking the ramp! Dressed in a flowing anarkali with matching bangles, jumkas and anklets, she looked like an angel that was walking through the clouds... She walked past him before, but not before she offered him a polite smile... As she walked past, he could smell her intoxicating yet sweet perfume like lavender mixed with red roses... Amongst all the smoke, her fragrance was soft, yet it stood out for him... He couldn't have been more mesmerised by her!
He had no guts to talk to her... She was this beautifully mesmerising girl, while he was a shy, introverted guy... They had no way to bridge that gap between their different worlds...
As her friend cracked a joke, she broke in to her chiming laughter which caught his attention... Her laugh was like a stress reliever for him... He could listen to her laugh for years... All life in fact!
"Randhir yaar! Focus kare kya?" said Parth, bringing Randhir out of his day-dream... Mentally smacking himself for losing control, Randhir got back to the engine in front of him, but not before glancing at his girl for one as time.
Tera haath se haath chhodna
Tera saayon se rukh modna
Tera palat ke phir na dekhna
Nahin maaf karunga main,
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan..
"I love you Sanyukta!" said Randhir, his voice croaking failing to hide the rip that just divided his heart.
"I can't! I am sorry!" saying so she left Randhir's hand forever and ran away without even glancing back for one last time... She was a traditional Marwari from Rajasthan, a truly royal and prestigiously illustrious family and Randhir, well a normal orphaned Punjabi boy...
All words had betrayed Randhir! At least she could have turned around a looked at him once, but she ran away without facing him... He knew that her strict family had found out about their relationship, but he was prepared to fight for them, their future with each other... He was ready to give up everything, his studies! His friends! Just so that he could spend his life with her, far away from the prying eyes of her family.
Alas, the pressure of Sanyukta's family had prevailed and she had no choice but to leave him... After all, she had no other option; it was either this or his...
Randhir's desolation was mounting every passing second... He had felt his life slipping away from him, the every second she had left his hand and ran away...
All of Randhir's voice was stuck in his throat, failing to come out... This build up of melancholy, he had no idea how to cure... He wanted to cry, he wanted to punch his wall, he wanted to hold her in his arms forever... However, the helplessness overtook his senses, as he sunk to the floor and clutched his hair
As he sunk to the floor, he howled like no tomorrow... Yet this time, there was no one to console him... No-one to lift him to his feet again! He was never going to forgive her for not turning back to look at him one last time!
Baarishon mein bedhadak tere naachne se
Baat baat pe bewajah tere roothne se,
Chhoti chhoti teri bachkani badmashiyon se,
Mohabbat karunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan..
"C'mon you bore! It's raining!!!! OMG! You are such a bore Randhir!!!" Sanyukta rolled her eyes as she saw Randhir running back to the sheltered bus stop.
But her, nope! She loved the rain! The feeling of cold water running down the spine! For her, rain symbolised freedom! Like how the rain doesn't stop or wait anyone; she too wanted the same independence and grateful life! It gave her an adrenaline rush, and even she doesn't know why! She just loved to get drenched in the rain, twirl and jump around for no reason in particular...
As he saw her from the shelter, her anarkali was sticking to her body like second skin, accentuating all her feminine curves! Randhir felt complete with her presence in his life! Sanyukta had managed to give him the childhood he had sadly missed out on... Being an orphan growing up alone, he had always associated rain as being his parents' tears... Growing up in an orphanage, he had no real friends nor had he ever had that support, that motivation, that love, a child feels from their parents!
Even though he walked towards her and jumped in the puddle, making the dirty water ruin her anarkali!
What Randhir saw a sight that made his jaw drop! His certified Jhansi ki Rani's eyes wide open in shock and mock anger, as she saw the front of her white anarkali turn brown due to the dirt in the water...
"Hahahahahahahah! Now you look like a perfect witch!" laughed Randhir, as he saw in her nose going red in real anger now!
"You are dead Shekhwat! Wait and watch" as she ran after him in the rain, throwing her shoes at him...
Randhir dried his eyes, as they were watering again! He looked out of the window; he had it all today... The name, the profession, the money, yet he was deprived for what he wished for the most... LOVE!
Tere jhoothe kasme vaadon se,
Tere jalte sulagte khwabon se,
Teri beraham duaon se,
Nafrat karunga main,
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan..
Parth saw his best friend slipping away from his eyes! Randhir has stopped shaving, stopped eating and stopped studying... He had lost all motivation in life!
(This part is what Sanyukta tells Parth)
"Please give this to Randhir after I leave Parth! I have no guts to tell him! Thank you for all the help" said Sanyukta... Her eyes were blood-shot from crying, her voice lacking the zeal it used to have before... She looked like a breathing corpse...
Parth had given the letter to Randhir long ago... Yet Randhir had never mentioned anything about what was written in the letter and Parth didn't want to intrude either! Randhir had not been sleeping; instead he would just sit at the terrace and gaze at the moon! But today was the limit, he had found cutting himself on the wrists...
"Are you mad Randhir!" Parth yelled at Randhir... But the latter showed no effect!
Parth sat down before Randhir... He knew that both of his friends were sentimental fools! One for falling in to her familial pressures and the other for giving her up so easily!
P: "Why did you let her go so easily Randhir? What was in that letter?"
R (smirkingly): "She did this to save my life!" said Randhir as he shoved the letter in to Parth's hands!
"Randhir, I left you because my family were looking for both of us... I knew that they were never going to agree to our relation; no matter what how hard we convince them... I had no choice left (parth noticed a tear drop smudging the ink a little).
I love you, like I have never loved someone Randhir... You are and always will be a part of me! But my family is influential and manipulative... I am not leaving you by choice Randhir... It was either this or... They have fixed my marriage! By the time you will read this, I would no longer be Sanyukta Aggrawal...
Move on in life Randhir... Have a family, settle down (another tear mark smudging the ink)... I know you will have a wonderful life ahead of you! Remember you will never be alone in this world; you will always have your parents, and by this time me as well, looking over you... I am that bright star near the moon; I will be there every night, looking down upon you!"
Parth could read no more... All he could do was engulf Randhir in a crushing hug!
"I hate her Parth! I hate her! She betrayed me Parth! She betrayed me..." said Randhir, yet no tears came out of his eyes... He was a broken man, with no-one in his world to call his own
It was still raining by the time Randhir had finished his poem... He walked out of his house and just started to walk in the rain; he looked up at the sky and among st all the grey clouds he saw just one bright star beaming down at him... He knew it was her and smiled at her...
"I am coming my Jhansi ki Rani! If not here, then there... I am coming! Wait for me!"
