Indians are judgmental and hypocritical, because so-called modernized Indians cannot stand other Indians who have a more traditional mindset. They have this opinion that everyone should be modern and when they meet people who do not fall under their criteria, it irks them. Indians like you cannot stand that other people have a different opinion, and Indians like you turn a normal debate into an outright argument. You cannot stand the fact that some people consider Dheera a gross couple. You took it personally when this forum is a public forum and other opinions are supposed to be welcome. I haven't come to the Dheera AT and posted my opinions did I? I posted them in a public thread. What's your problem if I find Dheera gross? Why have you taken it so personally, as if I was criticizing you and your family?

It's so annoying how people point fingers at Indians and India and degrade them, as if the west is some great place without any blame. Western culture has a million faults, and we don't have to imitate everything westerners do or accept. Just because something is acceptable in the western culture doesn't mean it has to be acceptable in Indian culture. Why? Do we need to lose our individuality? Do you guys want India to become another US? If you all love US so much, then renounce your country and your culture. Become Americans. Why do you call yourself Indians, if you have such a low opinion about India and Indians? It's really insulting how people say Indians are regressive, blah blah blah just because they have a culture that is very different from US.

You know what? I'm proud of my Indian culture. I have lived in the US for 23 years and I hate the family system here. I hate how kids are totally disrespectful and rebellious towards parents the minute they hit adolescence. Kids here call their mothers a bitch and their fathers a bas***d when they don't get what they want. Is that how you want our Indian kids to be? I am so proud of my culture and how India raises its children to be respectful and loving towards their parents. Sure Indian culture has its faults, but doesn't western culture? The way western kids get drunk and smoke since the age of 12 is sickening and disgusting. That's not how I want Indians to become, thank you very much.

People who think westerners are not judgmental have never stepped foot in the US. You've never met racist white people who look down on anyone who's colored. You guys haven't experienced the racism that is still very prevalent here. No matter how much an Indian tries to fit in this country, they will always be a part of the minority, they will always be a part of the colored people, and they will always be considered lower than the white population. Don't even try to deny it, because I've lived with this attitude since the day I moved to US, and every other Indian person living here has faced this racism. Indians living in India who thinks life in the US is a piece of cake have no idea what they are talking about.

In comparison, Indians treated the British people with utmost respect when they took over India. Even though they had the power to drive out the British, they treated them with utmost hospitality until the British took advantage of it. Ours is a nation that believes in atithi devo bhava. No other nation on this planet treats foreigners like that.

So Indians can continue degrading their own country and fellow people, while glorifying the western nation that cares not one bit for anyone who is not white race. Sorry for the long rant, but your comment against Indians really irked me. We are not low class people, so please don't shame us our our country by degrading us.

I'm in England who are very tolerant compared to other races/sexualities etc so don't know of your experience. Indians are just as bigoted it has to be said. Trust me I've seen and heard plenty of stuff that goes on back in India - it's just it is hidden or swept under the carpet.

Okay, I am sorry, but every country has it's pros and cons. You cannot just come and say that every person in India is hypocritical or unwilling to accept changes.

Yes, India has it's fair share of intolerant people but if you see Hindu-Muslims out for each other's blood, on the other side you will see them celebrating Eid and Diwali together. You will see female infanticide on one side, but you WILL see familes that previously did not support the females in their family getting educated dreaming of them getting careers now.

If homosexuals are ostracised don't you see so many people coming out to support them?

We are changing as a society. I had rather see an India that is a mix of the traditional and the modern. Throwing away all it it's evils and retaining it's good values, accepting what's good from the west, not just blindly believing in all they say.

No country is perfect. Every country has it's problems. Let's just try to take all the good we can from everywhere and leave the bad.

THANK you for your sensible post. Finally someone who acknowledges that Dheera is a twisted couple, even though they may find them entertaining. See, I don't mind opinions that digress from mine as long as people accept that some things are just universally wrong, like marrying a sister's FIL. And yeah, I agree that SNS has showed way worse things too in the post.

Hmm, as for your question, it's a complicated one, but in the end, one couple has to choose to sacrifice their life (in my honest opinion), because if both couples got married, the dynamics would change and family life would be very awkward. Because in India, marriages are between two families, not just two people, so the decision to marry someone affects the entire family, either positively or negatively. People don't have to agree with my answer, but this is how I feel.

P.S. I totally agree with you! URGH! I don't get why any argument has to end with India being attacked. This happens all over IF and it's so sad, makes me feel like Indians are one of the least patriotic people on this planet! Even western people have bitter arguments over television shows. Has anyone ever visited western television forums? The people there can be just as rabid as us. 😆 Westerners have opinions too, and not all of them find everything shown in television acceptable. Yet they don't start bashing their nation over a difference in opinion.

Personally, I feel humanity is messed up, not Indians, westerners, Chinese, or any one race. The entire planet is messed up and that's a fact. No one race is better or worse than another.

@Bold- See, I am not saying exactly that. Meera and Dharam, I agree, f**ked up. Reallly f**ked up.

But there can be so many situations, like the one I described, where I don't really feel anyone is wrong. How is their faults? I would probably be okay with that relationship I guess.

While it definitely has an icky factor, I wouldn't say it will always be wrong.

I would explain myself better but typing on mobile is such a pain.

P.S YES YES YES YES YES. WORD. Please, all I want is use your own freaking brain before rejecting everything Indian and accepting everything Western. There are so many things I love an hate about India, same about the west.

that's exactly the point I was trying to make India has its flaws. So does the west but when it comes to families/izzat etc India can be awfully hypocritical.

I am speaking from my own personal experience as an Indian who has divorced and also watching the experiences of my cousins and friends. I've seen how boys are favoured over girls, how marrying out of caste or race is not tolerated. How doing anything out of the norm is frowned against.

I dont have problem with the age gap, but just that the relationship they shared is kind of weird that's just my view..

Void or not void, Dheera are here to stay 😃
Okay I'm not 100% sure but I hope so 😆 They're just so hatke and hot! Then they can officially get married lavishly later on 😉
Yeah it is weird because it's not normal. Actually, I think the relationship between Vidya and Meera has turned weird more than Dheera's. But that could also be solved cus apparently the women is not Dharam's wife. Some people are saying that.

See, I am not saying those things didn't happen. But the way you said "Indians are the most judgemental, hypocritical people on this planet". (I would paste the exact quotes but really india-forums on mobile SUCKS, too much work) and I lot of other things. It sounded very degrading to Indians and you sounded really prejudiced and judgemental.

See, I am not saying you are those things but the tone of your posts conveyed that to me. If that was not so from your part, I apologise for thinking that way.

Again, I am not saying these thinga don't happen in India but I have a Maasi who is divorced. Her parents, family and friends understood her reasons and supported her second marriage. She is wayy happier now.

We are two sisters and our parents have never made us feel inferior on anyway. Their priority is making sure both of us get the best education and become independent happy women.

I have seen my parents go from maintaing as big a distance as they could from Muslims to becoming friends with them. They will freak out if I brought a Muslim boyfriend home😆 but they will probably come around later.

@RamKiJanaki. I thought you were done with this argument. Why didn't you just end it with me?
Sorry if I offended you and if I wasted your time which I'm sure I did 😆. Let's end this here, let's not make this forum too catty 🤗
