Ahem closed his laptop and glanced at his wristwatch. He frowned when he realized it was 10pm. "It's ten o'clock already, where is Gopi?" He got up to see if she was on her way, but he didn't hear the sweet sounds of her payals or bangles that he so missed the night before.
He went and stood in front of the window and felt the cool air on his face and hair, gently caressing him. The same air had felt like thorns last night but felt soothing tonight. Why? It's simple Ahem your wife, your other half, the owner and the ruler of your heart is home.
Ahem smiled at his whimsical thoughts and shook his head. But in the next moment he was transported back to Rajpal Nagar, and the moment he caught a glimpse of his wife's face. She had been surprised, but went into a fearful mode when she realized she accidently dropped the dirt on his coat when she was dusting. He hadn't been able react at first when she cleaned his shoulder, he was too lost in her, but when she used her pallu he had to stop her. He took her hand in his along with her pallu and immediately got lost in her eyes again, but he could see the fear on her face.
He realized if he didn't assure her soon she would pull back like she did after the accidental kiss. In his gentlest tone he reassured her by saying, "Gopi there is no need to be so afraid," He had felt a pang in his heart when he was unable to completely erase her fear, but when he said it's okay in his firm voice the fear in her eyes was replaced by the ever present love.
Someone wise said, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." He had always heard the phrase but never felt it, but just in twenty-four hours he not only learned the meaning of the phrase but felt it also. He is very fond of his wife, he can admit this to himself at least; he felt so relaxed and lighter after acknowledging his feelings.
When he grabbed her hand earlier that afternoon he had felt a electric shock go thru his whole body, he had felt the spark between them many times, but this time it was so much different then any other times. Was it because he is now aware of his changed feelings for her? He had loved before, but never felt as he did now. He wanted to capture the feeling again, and wanted to see if she also felt the same. He paced back and forth for few moments, trying to think of a way to touch her to see if the feeling is same as before or there is the extra added effects of his feelings for her that made him want to keep on touching her.
As he turned back towards the door his eyes landed on his cell phone. He picked up the phone and went to his text messages and pulled up her response from the night before, then the idea struck him on how to get close to his wife and touch her. He smiled to himself at the thought of touching her soft skin.
He finally heard the sound that he had been waiting to hear for the past thirty minutes. He felt his heart speed up and his anticipation climb higher as the sound of her payals and Kangans become more prominent as she got closer to their bedroom door. He kept his eyes glued to the door and when she was finally there he felt his heart skip a beat. This is love. He sighed and relaxed, now everything felt right. Where there was anxiety and restlessness the night before there is only peace and calm now.
When she went to place the water pitcher on the bedside table he went to the doors to close and lock them. He wanted no unexpected interruptions tonight; he wanted to end this Valentines night on a right note. He moved closer to her, he wanted to ensure she had no room to move anywhere but to him. He cleared his throat and waited for her to acknowledge him. When she turned towards him inquiringly he spoke to her in a mock anger. "So you finally get time for me. Yesterday I called you three times and you didn't call me until you took care of everything else first, and today I have been waiting for you for half hour, but no I have to be the last on the list." He could see her getting nervous, she started fidgeting and twisting her hands. "And what is this? Didn't I tell you earlier there was no need to be so afraid and nervous? I was trying to tell you not to be nervous or afraid ever again. Now bring your cell phone, I want to show you something." She looked at him in wonder and hurried to comply.
He was surprised the phone was right next to the water pitcher. She must have had it in her hand when she came in and placed it on the table with the water.
She held out the phone to him but he didn't take it from her. He moved next to her. He could see her small hand tremble at their closeness and took it as a positive sign."Open your text messages." She looked at him in confusion. He closed the remaining distance between them. His shoulder touched her arm and he smiled inwardly when she bit her lip nervously. He showed her how to open her messages deliberately making his finger graze her thumb and hand as he moved it away from her. Yes awareness of his feeling enhanced his reaction to her touch, even that slight contact sent his senses reeling. And he could see she was having the same effect by her small gasp and trembling lips.
She jumped when he spoke in her ear huskily. "What does that say?" He could see her hand tremble as she gathered courage to answer him. "Relax, I told you there is no need to be so nervous." She took a deep breath and replied, "Goodnight." Her voice was so soft, if he were standing few feet away from her he wouldn't have heard her.
He pulled up her reply to his message and showed her. "What did you write?" She looked at his message and then hers and again became anxious. "Gopi if you don't relax how am I going to correct your mistake?" He could see her swallow visibly and breathe in and out to relax. "You wrote, god night to u to, you forgot to write o in good, and to. It should be written good night to you too." She didn't say anything just nodded her head. "Gopi say something."
She turned and moved away from him. "Ji, I got it now, I won't forget next time." He frowned at her. "Next time? Are you planning to go somewhere overnight again?" She looked at him with wide eyes. "You can forget it, you won't be ever going anywhere where you will have to stay the night."
He moved closer to her and she lowered her eyes in shyness. He could see the pink hue increase in her cheeks at his intent. She took a step back and turned to put her phone on the table not realizing he had taken another step closer to her. When she turned back she stumbled back in surprise at seeing him so close to her. She lost her balance and was about to fall back on the table but Ahem caught her around the waist and brought her to his chest, wrapping his other arm around her to hold her to him.
He felt her arms go around him in reflex and heard her whisper, "Ahemji." He tightened his arms around her and replied "Gopi I am glad you are home."
