Part 5

As the day wore on Gopi's excitement dimmed a little. She couldn't help but feel sad, these would be some of the last moments she would spend with her Ahemji.

All through the day Ahem had been close to her, touching her, showing her new things, explaining what she couldn't understand.

She also couldn't help the excitemenet of being close to her Ahemji, but every time she did feel that tiny spark of hope the voice would come back.

What are you doing Gopi? Once again you are hoping and dreaming when you know nothing will become of it.

Yeah, but he is so different now, he is voulnteerly spending his time with me.

And how long do you think that will last Gopi? Have you forgotten all the past incidents? When he had told you over and over that you could never be part of his life. Should I remind you?

Nahi! No I don't need a reminder. Ok I will not take his being nice to me more than what it is.

After they finished the sight seeing tour, they all went shopping. Gopi decided to follow Koki instead of staying close to Ahem.

When they went into a shop, Koki kept trying to talk Gopi into buying something, but she kept refusing, instead she chose something for all the family members, even Mani.

Ahem knew Gopi was once again avoiding him, every time he moved close to her she would spot something else and stand by his mom.

He watched as his mom tried to convince her to buy something, but she kept refusing, instead she would point out something else for the family members.

She talked his mom in to buying a matching watch set for his kaka and kaki, Kinjle and Dhaval and even one for his mom and dad. She then found a shawl for Baa and Nani. She bought a bangle for Mani, but she never picked anything for herself. Now she was standing aside observing every thing with fascination.

When they finished shopping he sent them all ahead on pretense of making a phone call and went back to the shop.

After they finished shopping they all went back to the hotel to rest before getting ready for the dinner party that night.

Later in the evening...

Gopi was almost ready when Ahem walked in the room. She was having hard time tying the dori of her blouse in the back, when she noticed him watching her, the task became even more difficult, she had just about given up when she saw him move towards her.

He met her eyes in the mirror, but she lowered her lashes, hiding from him.

He stopped behind her and reached up and slowly moved her hair in front of her, and ran the back of his hand from the back of her neck to her mid back where the blouse was fastened.

Gopi closed her eyes tightly and shivered at his first touch, afraid to move.

Ahem felt her shiver and smiled to himself, thinking if I can get this kind of reaction by just touching her, how would she react if I did more than just touch her.

Ahem wanted to bend down and kiss the visible pulse point of her neck, her skin felt soft as a rose petal, he touched the first hook on her blouse and was tempted to unhook it to explore further, just to see how she would react.

But desire is double edged sword, and he needed to control himself, because Gopi was no where near ready for anything physically. Even if he managed to seduce her, then what,would she trust him?

He had hurt her too much in the past. Its won't be easy for her to forget his mistreatments. And she was talking about leaving once they got back home, and he needed to stop her.

He slowly tied the dori, as he was thinking about this. He then took her silky hair in his hands and moved them back, he couldn't resist bending and whispering in her ear. "It's done."

He then took few steps back and watched as her eyes opened and met his in the mirror, she flushed and looked away.

Gopi took a deep breath and turned towards him, and finally looked at him. "Thank you!"

Ahem watched her intently, "My pleasure." Which made Gopi flush even more.

They stared at each other for few seconds, then Gopi broke the silence. "Woh, I wanted to say something."

Ahem stepped near her and looked down at her. "What is it?" Bit worried at her nervousness.

Gopi played with her fingers nervously. "I was thinking I shouldn't go to your dinner party." she paused and looked up at him. "I mean what if someone asks me something and I can't understand them, and say something that might emmbarass you, or cause you to not get the contract."

Ok Ahem, be careful how you answer her.

He stepped forward and took her small hands in his big ones. "Gopi, first you won't emmbarass me, and there will be other wives there who don't speak english and it is not required that you know anything about the contract or the business in order for us to get the contract.

"But...", Ahem put his finger on Gopi's soft lips to stop her from speaking further.

He replaced his finger with his thumb and rubbed her bottom lip absently while watching her. "Besides I want you there, I want peple to know my soft spoken, traditional, simple, beautiful wife, and I will be right beside you the whole night, so don't worry so much.

Gopi couldn't meet his eyes and just nodded. Ahem took her chin in his hand and made her look at him. "Don't worry so much, everything will work out, now I am going to go get ready, and don't go too far, who knows I might need help with another button." Teasing her a little.

He chuckled when Gopi flushed and looked away. He stepeed away from her and got his clothes and went in the bathroom to get changed.

Gopi watched Ahem leave the room and felt relieved. Her heart hadn't slowed down since he had walked into the room.

She was very nervous about the dinner and top of that he had said all those things. But does he mean anything by it or is he just being nice because all wives are required to go to this party and he needed her to go in order for him to win the contract.

He was confusing her so much, she didn't know whether she was coming or going. She didn't know what to do or feel.

For the moment she needed to leave the room before he came back and saw her standing there like an idiot, he will think she took his teasing seriously. She grabbed her wrap to go with her sari and quickly walked out the door.

When Ahem came out of the room, he saw that his mom and Gopi were once again conversing in low tones, and he had a feeling Gopi was trying to get out of going to the dinner party.

They stopped talking when they saw him come out of the room. "Mom, are you ready? I called Jigar in his room and told him to meet us in the hotel lobby." He glanced at his mom and then at Gopi, who looked like she wanted to back out again. Before she could say anything else he took her hand in his and escorted them out of the room.

As they stood in the elevator Gopi tried to pull her hand from his but he just held on tighter and gave her a look and she stopped fidgeting.

As they neared the hotel dinning room, where the party was to be held, Gopi became more nervous, Ahem noticed, he leaned down and spoke softly in her ear, "Relax, remember I will be right beside you, and mom and Rashi are here too."

Rashi was shocked to see Ahem holding Gopi's hand and talking to her softly. She couldn't believe the change in their relationship and thought, how am I going to explain this to mummy, she will kill me for not stopping them from getting closer. No she had to do something, how can Gopi be happy after ruining her whole trip.

Hope you liked it. One more part I think.
