chapter 15

After looking for a long time at Aham's face, Gopi began a story.

Ahamji Even to think of it makes me tremble but if I don't tell it now I m afraid that I can never reveal it. Since my mother was a Kathak dancer, I began to learn it from a young age. On that particular day, we were having a dance rehearsal at college, so I informed Rahul Bahi to come an hour late. Unfortunately there was some bomb hoax, so we were sent out early. Since I m always picked up by someone, my friends left me to wait. Only then I realized I had missed my mobile. You know Ahamji we have become so addicted to mobiles that we don't remember most of the numbers. I realized my mistake at that moment. I decided to wait for my brother and went to the nearby park.

After sometime a girl who seemed to be a couple of years elder to me came there. Her eyes were filled with tears and she was looking helpless. She came towards me and requested my help. She explained that she had fallen in love with someone and her parents were against it. Since she did not know to write in English she wanted me to write a letter for her. I felt sorry for her and started to write. After finishing the letter she thanked me and took it. Only then I realized that unknowingly I had signed my name in that letter, before I could explain it to her, she sprayed something on me and then my world became dark.

When I woke up, I felt my hands and legs to be tied up. I was in a dark room, which was windowless. I was really terrified. Gopi could not control herself; she began to tremble with those memories. Before Aham could rise Viren was there next to his sister holding her and consoling her. Aham felt disappointed. He wanted to be the one who could console and support her, but all he could say was: Gopi if you don't want to continue we can leave it. Don't stress yourself. Viren also supported it. But Gopi would not listen and she continued:

Into that dark room two women came. Only was the girl who met me in the park. The other was an older woman. Since I saw the girl in daylight, I could draw her features clearly, but I m not clear about the other woman. But I could see that she was short, with ugly, protruding teeth and stinky smell. For nearly fifteen days they bet me, most of the time I was thirsty and hungry. Then one day the older woman brought me some documents to sign. When I read I found it to be the properties of Chirag Modi. I did not know why they wanted me to sign, but when I refused she bought a nail clipper and clipped my nail. To was painful. They also kept me unconscious for most of the time.

Suddenly one day they bound and gagged me and put me in their car's backseat. From their conversation I learnt that since I m not willing to sign the papers they were planning to sell me. At that moment I decided that I must be strong. So went along playing with their game. I pretended to be unconscious. Soon they stopped for supper. The girl came to check on me.

Gopi was silent for a few moments. When she looked at Aham's eyes she could see rage and anger in it. Some what the whole ordeal seemed as god's gift for her. Otherwise she could never have meet Aham. She could never have a chance to talk to him. Her kanaji had answered her prays.

She continued: do you know how she checked? She bought a sharp knife and made a cut in my arm. If I was conscious then I will react, so she will inject me with sleeping dose. It took all my strength to remain passive. Making sure that I was unconscious those two women went to a hotel to stay for the night.

After making sure that no one was near I began my process to escape. First I had hid a blade piece inside my mouth. With its help I could cut my ropes freely. After that I found myself looked inside the car. I did not know what to do. I was desperate. Then I found their bag which contained all the documents. I took it with me. I searched for something to break the window and found my healed slipper on the floor. Using it I broke the back window and crawled out. My legs and arms were torn by the sharp glass pieces. From there I began to run. I cannot remember how long I ran, but all I can recall is seeing a car's light and thinking that I have been caught.

Aham was furious; those two were going to pay for treating Gopi like this. He will not rest till he had punished them. His heart was shedding not tears but blood. He could not imagine the pain Gopi had to endure. Just then the door opened on there stood two women whom Gopi had painted, who had kidnapped and tortured Gopi, URMILA AND RASHI GUPTA.
