Kirti stands up for her hubby
Musical notes
Sharad and his cute wife Kirti Kelkar may not have done all that well in the second season of Nach Baliye. But there's no stopping them. Sharad, who realised he is a better singer than dancer, is currently busy crooning on Jjhoom India. While Sharad has a singer partner in Vaishali Samant for vocal training, Kirti is the one who motivates her hubby. "I buy CDs of all the old and latest songs and help Sharad select the right song which suits his voice," says Kirti who believes that Sharad is a fine singer. "He is a good singer and is working quite hard on his songs. He shoots during the day and rehearses at nights, and is putting in a lot of effort. Sadly, the judges are giving him low scores. It's unfair because doing a daily and a reality show simultaneously is not easy, they should consider that."
Rathods sing for a cause
Roop Kumar Rathod has teamed up with his singer wife Sonali for Mission Ustaad, which has A.R. Rehman and Lara Dutta as judges. The show which aims at promoting the UN's Millennium Development Goals has four celebrity singer jodis. "The idea behind the show is to entertain as well as spread social messages about women's education, poverty alleviation and employment for all. It is entertainment for a cause," says Roop kumar who is happy that he has his wife as partner. "One of the reasons for doing the show is Sonali. Other reasons are Rehman and the social cause the show supports. Though there are no eliminations, there is a voting system. It's easy to please the audience, but not rehman," he says.
Proxies rule Jjhoom India
Jjhoom India is one contest that changes its rules every week. The contestants, judges and viewers all are confused. Recently, Shabana Azmi, who is one of the judges, couldn't make it, so, Dimple Kapadia made an appearance on her behalf. Later, singer Lucky Ali came as a substitute for Vinod Rathod who was Roshni Chopra's mentor. A few weeks ago, Jolly Mukherjee replaced Zubin Garg to become Shama Sikander's partner. What's going on? Shekhar Suman says there are no set rules and therefore the confusion. "there should be a set of rules that one sticks to, but everything seems to be interchangeable on this show," he complains. "There is a sab chalta hai attitude which upsets me," he adds.
