| Dead And Gone: Kiran Karmarkar | On the small screen, rising from the dead is considered big business. And Balaji Telefilms is famous for resorting to plastic surgery and mistaken identity to bring back "dead" characters - from the days Mihir rose from the ashes in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Years later, he is still alive and kicking.
However, in a surprise change of stance, the Balaji team has reversed its decision to bring alive Om Aggarwal (Kiran Karmarkar) in Star Plus daily, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. Om was to resurface in Kahaani, to provide a big twist to the daily.
The entry was slated to thwart business magnate Suyaash Mehra's (Mohnish Behl) romantic intentions towards Om's wife, Parvati (Sakshi Tanwar). Om had been shown as having died in last year's July floods in the city. Let him be
When asked about the reversal, Kahaani's creative head Sandiip Sikcand says, "Yes, we had decided to bring Om back to life. But after brainstorming for weeks, the creative team has decided not to make him reappear. We explored several possibilities of resurrecting him, but we have just taken the final call of letting Om be." The possibilities
In a case of making the impossible possible, a way of bringing Om back to life was to show that it was Om's impersonator (who lived with Trishna, played by Mita Vashisht) who was dead. Or to prove that Kamal (Ali Asgar) who was with Om in his final moments in the hospital, had stepped out, and the dead body was of another lookalike.
"We toyed with various return-from-the-dead possibilities. Finally, we decided to focus on the Parvati-Suyaash track, rather than make it a triangle," adds Sikcand. Mind game
Viewers may have caught fleeting images of Om in Kahaani, in the last few episodes. It was turning out to be a dilemma for Parvati, who wondered if she was imagining things.
"This will drive her crazy. Her character will be shown going insane. She will be shown to lose her mental balance. And all this will not be the handiwork of the usual suspects, Sasha (Chetan Hansraj) and Pallavi (Achint Kaur), but someone extremely close to the Aggarwal parivar," informs Sikcand.
For the moment, the makers of Kahaani are not divulging the name of the character who will be responsible for the state of affairs in Parvati's life. "That will come as a big shock for Parvati and the audience, sometime next week," adds Sikcand. |
Life after Om
After his exit from Kahaani, Kiran Karmarkar is seen on the floorboards in Salim Arif's Hindi play, Kacche Lamhe, with Harsh Chhaya and Lubna Salim. The play, penned by Javed Siddiqi, is based on a story by Gulzar. Karmarkar also featured in the Star One horror series, Darna Mana Hai. Next, he will be seen doing a cameo in Star's afternoon drama, Saarthi. | |
