I agree that diction is very important while singing a song.Without the right pronunciation, the meaning of the word is also lost. The kids do make some mistakes in diction..Esp,Anamika..Though her pronunciation has improved tremendously, she still makes some mistakes..Will be ok with time,I guess,if she keeps working on it....

For this it is important that a knowledgeable person is there to correct them.I speak Hindi prety well, but still don't know the pronunciation of many urdu words......Even Sonu Nigam has stated that he has made mistakes in diction while singing coz he was not aware of the right pronunciation. When Ashaji/Lataji sing songs in Tamil, unfortuantely,it doesn't appeal as much as it should/could...coz of the diction......😳...Shreya has done a very good job with Tamil songs...getting the diction so well that one can hardly say she doesn't speak Tamill.Hats off👏.This shows the imporatnce of diction and that it can be got with a li'l effort.

Ppl have commented here that in olden days ppl sang with bengali, south Indian, punjabi accents etc..That is true.Even Rafi saab had a slight Punjabi touch to his songs..However Lata ji and Ashaji have stated many times that in olden days music directors and lyricists wld correct their diction...which helped them to sing well...they have also stated that such interest is missing nowadays...Naushad saab played a major role in correcting Lataji's diction..Such determination, interest and desire to excel seems missing in today's fast paced world..Most pp do not have time for such things...

well explained👏

I thought Javed Sahib would be a pefectionist about these things, too...but then I heard Sonu Nigam pronounce kayanaat incorrectly throughout the entire song "Main Agar Kahoon." Why didn't Javed Sahib correct it?! grrr...Makes a perfectly wonderful song a little less enjoyable.

Ya thats true though, but read Maya's post on Bappida's accent then lets decide upon it 😉

Well, maybe it depends upon how you learn it... A kid generally learns faster and so its better to train the kid at the earlier stages...

we are all creatures of success to an extent. he seems to have done just fine sticking to his accent, not that it comes across so strong when he sings. so not sure he has ever been motivated enough to change.

and fwiw, unless someone has a prabhakar in hindi, i think most people do mispronounce words occasionally. meena kumari and madhubala were perhaps the only real naturals even in the acting world from what i was told.
