Saif and sound
Delhiites enjoyed a musical evening and were star struck - all at once
Malvika Nanda
Delhiites turned up at the NSIC Grounds in Okhla on a chilly Sunday night in good numbers to watch a Rock Concert with a Bollywood twist. And why not, the line up had Strings, Parikrama and their new star guitarist - Actor Saif Ali Khan
The evening began with Pakistani band Strings warming up the crowd with their hum-able Urdu/Hindi Pop-Rock fare Sar Kiye Yeh Pahar Yeh Hai Meri Kahani, , Door Dhani and their usual set of , Bollywood covers. They added a Sufi favourite Dum-a-Dum Mast Kalander especially for Delhi. Parikrama took stage in front of a primarily Saif and Strings audience. Strings had finished their set and Saif hadn't yet come on, but an ear-piercing scream from vocalist Nitin Malik surely got them more than noticed with In The Middle. Their violinist Imran works like a charm but their new drummer Srijan Mahan, despite his good reputation, needs to tighten up. Sitting opposite the stage were Saif and Kareena, the latter gush ing to say, "they (Parikrama) are really good" as she sat between Saif and his sister Saba. Then came chhote nawab, preoccupied with new role as Parikrama's guitarist, initially with stiffness and a black coat. A song later, the coat was gone and the stiffness too. Saif performed Back in Black and Highway To Hell, along with Roadhouse Blues, (which he attempted to sing as well, RIP Jim Morrison!), Johnny Be Good, Parikrama's Rhythm and Blues etc. All in all it was a 'Saif and sound' concert.

Having dedicated Whole lot of Rosie to Rosa in an earlier concert, people speculated whether this time Saif would sing Carrie for Kareena, but he went on to dedicate Smoke on Water to his "jaan" instead

Image: Saif sports a Kareena tattoo

IndiaFM
Monday, 21 January , 2008

Ink to paper is thoughtful,
Ink to flesh, hard-core.
If Shakespeare were a tattooist
We'd appreciate body art more".
Well, this is what the significance of a tattoo is in today's times; hard-core and thoughtful. But, in today's Bollywood, a tattoo means more than just a body-art. It is yet another way to show your beloved how much he/she means to you.

Well, that is exactly the case with the Saif-Kareena romance. That Saif is committed is stating the obvious, but Saif has gone one step ahead. He has now tattooed his hand with the letters 'Kareena' in Devanagri script!

Saif's much-talked about tattoo was for full display at the recently held rock show where Saif jammed with the popular rock band Parikrama.

Why should I show off Kareena tattoo, asks Saif

IBNLive.comMon, Jan 21 12:40 AM

Mumbai: Saif Ali Khan is not interested in talking tattoos or opening up about his love life. However, if it's music, then the chote nawab has lots to say. And here's what Indian rock and roll band Parikrama's keyboardist Subir Malik had to say about the actor performing with the group. "He is a better actor than a musician."

Well that's the verdict from the Parikrama, but the band is not complaining either, considering the kind of publicity Saif is bringing for the band's pan India tour.

Saif who strummed popular tunes of bands like AC/DC and Doors in Bangalore with Parikrama will repeat the act in Mumbai on January 20.

Talking about his passion for the guitar, Saif says, it goes back to his days in school. "I listened to my seniors in school. That's the first time I heard rock music and fell in love with it," he says.

Music apart, ask Saif about showing off his newly acquired tattoo dedicated to ladylove Kareena Kapoor and pat comes the response.

"I'm not going hold it up like a flag," he retorts.

But a peek we did manage to get. So, is he taking his rock star image too seriously? First the music, and then the tattoo? To which Saif says, "Some actions are self explanatory."

But Kareena will not turn up to cheer while Saif takes on the crowd because "she is not in town. She is in Europe shooting," Saif confirms.

And if you are bigger fans of Parikrama than of Saif and his music, then perhaps you might be interested in knowing that the band will be the opening act for the Iron Maiden concert in Mumbai on February 1.
