Saawariya impresses in first screening

By: Taran Adarsh, IndiaFM
Tuesday, October 30, 2007

The first screening of Saawariya was held on Sunday night [October 28] for those associated with the film and the reports flowing in are tremendous. "Yes, the reactions are overwhelming. Those close to me can be extremely outspoken when it comes to commenting on my work. But they're thrilled… I am not nervous this time [as the release date draws nearer]. On the contrary, I am cool and composed," Sanjay Leela Bhansali tells me.

With Saawariya slated for release next Friday, there's talk that Bhansali is planning to revive Bajirao Mastani, which he had announced a few years ago. There's also talk that he's planning to start a film on the famed Heera Mandi of Lahore. The grapevine is also abuzz that the film-maker is planning a love story again, with freshers heading the cast yet again. "I am not revealing anything right now… Honestly, I haven't decided what my next move would be. I cannot think of anything till Saawariya releases," he smiles.

Bhansali's also non-committal on the film that he's co-producing with Bhushan Kumar, to be directed by Bhansali's sister Bela Segal and staring Adnan Sami as the lead man. "Yes, I read Bhushan-ji's statement, but I'd like to announce the film once everything is finalized. Let me finalize the star cast, the technicians and then make a proper announcement. After all, it's my sister's film, someone I love so much. I'd want the very best for her and I'd see to it that she gets the best," the doting brother states.

So far Jab se tere naina & Yu Shabnami have caught my fancy & feel these two will rule the charts for a long time along with main agar kahooh from OSO.

Thanks Bob da for the informative articles. 👍🏼

I agree with people here that ID should have been the MD. Only Saawariya,Yoon S. Maasha-Allah,Chel CHabeela,Jab se tere naina are good. rest arent even worth listenting to them. I wish ID was the MD of this movie. he would have taken the movie to new level of music. however, these days people like to hear Disco.rock style music. So that's what you get in OSO. even OSO is not that great. Johhny Gaddar has terrilbe music by SEL. No Smoking has similar tunes like omkara.

http://www.ibnlive.com/videos/50875/watch-the-making-of-saaw ariyas-music.html

You see ID sitting RIGHT by SLB in this video. he looks fake happy. the song thode badmaash by slb has tune gotten from HDDCS/Devdas😡

Yes, I too am not too much impressed by the soundtracks of OSO.

I think they are nothing that great. May be , we are praising those songs that much bcoz VS (the favourite mentors from SRGMP) have churned them out. It's just like that if our favourite contestant (be it Amanat or aneek or Raja or Sumedha or anyone , for that matter of fact) gets to sing for a film number , we will go an extra mile in praising it, even if the song is of mediocre quality. I thinjk that's one of our smally ways to show our fondness for our favourite contestants and/or MDs.But that's just my opinion.

Talking about Saawariya, I feel that theres something different in the music. I don't know if it is the arrangement of instruments or some fresh singers or some new actors . Having said that , I also want to say that i am nither too impressed nor too disappointed with the music right now.

I guess , i am feeling really low beacause I am missing the superb quality of songs that most of us were starting to get used to in SRGMP challenge 2007. Especially Mussarat. He dished out some really not-so-popular numbers and made a favourite out of them....

does this artificial looking town/city have any other human beings? Is the heroine mute(doesnt talk or sing)..

Is it only me or does the movie trailers in blue and black and heroine floating around and emerging from shadows remind you of some clothing/fabric/fashion/towel commercial..vimal/siyaram/bombay dyeing.....

It is so nice to see someone who shares my opinions on SLB's picturization.Though I've not watched too many of Saawariya's promos, from wht I wacthed I was also thinking that it looked like a fabric ad!!And fabrics of onnly black & white color....No other colors are shown. And since everything is shot in the dark,it is a perpetual guessing game abt where the fabric ends and whee the road/building starts...either ways my attention is always on the flowing garments.......

In all SLB movies I always used to wonder why the heroine keeps on running throughout the movie wearing a flowing dress that sweeps the road, stairs etc .Be it HDDCS or Devdas Ash had flowing chunnis sweeping the place!!

and now flowing clothes for Sonam as she is shown running ,almost as if ,for dear life .Maybe that's how she lost weight 😆

As for the music,it sounds good, certainly better than the music being dished out by most of today's MDs..But,I had higher expectations from an SLB movie.SLB and ID used to work magic together. Each and every song in HDDCS and Devdas is a masterpiece and can be listened to time and again. When I heard the songs for the first time,I never felt that the songs were getting repetitive. They all sounded different and gr8.

Sorry that the same can't be said of Saawariya's music. The title song has a fresh feel to it.Thode Badmaash sounds gr8.Chabeela,jab se tere naina and masha allah sound ok.The rest are forgettable and are basically a rehash of these songs. Some types of music grow on me as I listen to them again and again. But I doubt this will ever grow on me!!

I think SLB has gone a tad too far here.I don't think MS is even a patch on ID..His songs sound similar to ID songs, but are not that good.He sounds like poor man's ID

I agree with each and every of your points. I wanted to say the same thing in my earlier post but could not put it together so well as you did in your post.

Monty's music is different than the one dished out by other MDs of today. It is certainly refreshing and sound melodious. But I had much higher expectation from SLB movie because of the history. I expected the music to be in same class as what ID gave to HDDCS and Devdaas. Each of every song of these movies can be heard again and again. The songs are timeless and not situational only. Every time I hear any of those songs I get something new out of them. I cannot say the same thing about Saawariya's songs. I heard them one time and did not feel like listening to most of them again. Monty is different but certainly not in the same class as ID. It is a great shame for the film industry that it has a composer of ID's class today who is so grossly underutilized.

I donot know the story of Saawariya but someone had told me its a remake of the famous Moulin Rouge..... however I am not sure. So I lost interest.

I would really love to see OSO....... waiting for it to be released. Love the Dar-de-Disco.

If you get a chance to listen to "O re piya" from Aaja Nachle, don't miss a chance. I have been completely floored by this gem. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan does it again. What voice, what a composition. I am sure this one is going to rock the charts. Superb , really a masterpiece.
