Just to reply to Singh saab, I was a sitar player (pre-marriage) at the Nayan Ghosh academy (Sangit Mahabharati), have played in many concerts and also had the good fortune of playing with Zakir Hussain in his concert at Shyanmukhananda Hall called 'A Tribute to Abbaji'.

But no offence, I feel siting miles away in Canada I doubt you would know who Nayan Ghash is ! Just to help you judge my credentials here, you may check this link on him :

Am I good enough to give the interview now ??? But please hurry up as my make-up is fading.

Reemji you are unfortunately overqualified. I think we should be interviewing you instead. šŸ˜†

But seriously to play the sitar requires lot of patience and it has been described as a "divine instrument" because it not only has the ability to reflect different moods and but also the ability to uplift us. Keep it up.šŸ‘

Thanks Jade, yes I agree that Sitar is one of the most difficult instruments to play more so because of the posture. It is taxing also on the body. WIth other string instruments like guitar or veena or violin there is ease of playing as the posture is more to do with comfort. Like you can hold these instruments in a way you are comfortable. But with the sitar the posture is very up-right and plus positioning of the hand is very different. It not only needs a lot of practice but also physical and mental strength. This was one of the reasons why I have stopped playing now. Just sometimes when I am in the mood.

I think Mr.Singh has just vanished, so there goes our interview !

Considering how taxing and tiring it is to play the sitar I am sure they must be some kind of a stand or contraption to hold the instrument in place as it is rather large and cumbersome for those who are small in size. But if you have started from young then it is not so bad. This instrument can literally speak and communicate with the Gods but seems to have a rather sad and melancholy note I think. Keep it up.

Mr. Singh must be freezing in Canada now due to a different time zone. I hope your sitar music can reach him and inspire him too. šŸ˜†

Summer there is no stand or strap to hold the instrument and it is supported a bit by the body, although you are not lifting it since it is in a resting posittion. But yes if you play it from a young age then yes it is not bad. However these days people run away from instruments like Sitar and Veena. They all want guitar and Violin.

Reemji, Keep it up. I hope you pass your skills to some of your children. When culture dies life loses its depth, colour and meaning.
