Congrats. to all the semi-finalists👏👏 and the best of luck for the finals. Its a huge achievement to reach this far. Good luck to you all👍🏼

Really enjoyed the two different themes. It also gave a chance to the contestents to show their versatility. Here is my two cents as I am no expert when it comes to music:😳

Sur Sangam Gharana:

Ashish

: Chalat Musaphir:Very good effort. I felt a little strain in a couple of places.

Dil mei ek laher si: I really enjoyed this. Very good.

Seema

:

Hoton pe aisi baat: There was some disturbance in the background a couple of times but she sang beautifully. Her voice is very melodious and pleasant to the ears.

Aaj jane ki zid na karo: It was a superb effort. This is one of my favs. and she was flawless.

Cindu:

Joom ka gira........It was a good effort. I just felt in some places the effort from low to high pitch was a little too obvious but that is just my observation.

Dil cheez kya hai: Enjoyed this very much. I felt there was a bit of nasal singing in one or two places.

Bandish Gharana:

Arpana

:

Na bole na bole na bole re: One of my favs. and she did full justice to the song. The way she carried "ghunghat ke paat... na" was just superb.👏

Yu saja chhand: I heard this one for the first time and enjoyed it.

Alaap Gharana:

Raju:

Nain lad jaihai: Great effort. His voice suits Rafisaab songs.

E Husn zara jaag tuje ishq jagaye: I really felt in some places that I was listening to Rafisaab. Absolutely brilliant.

FOLK

Ashish -

Enjoyable performance though there was strain in ur voice at a few places.

Seema -

Singing was near to perfect. But the ovrall impact was somehow missing.

Sindhu -

Energy required was there but voice at some places(especially higher notes) sounded nasal.

Raju-

You got into the mood of the song well but sur did go off at a few places.

Aparna-

You sang it well. Voice was pleasant and had the required modulation. Only thing lacking was the throw at high pitch.

GHAZAL

Ashish-

The thehrav and feel required for the song was very much there. But the original sung by Ghulaam Ali is so much on my mind that it was difficult to get engrossed into your song(it is not ur fault but the masterpiece is mesmerizing). Though his technicalities are a class apart you kept your improvisations simple and it was good.

Seema -

This is again one of my favourites and you did a good job.

Sindhu -

I felt the voice modulation and the technicalities needs to be worked upon.

Raju-

This was really well sung.

Aparna-

Your voice sounded really good and your singing is also commendable.👏

GuardianAngel, Tanaz, Megha25 and lifeztuf, thanks for your feedback, esp. Megha25 and lifeztuf for your very constructive analysis.

One thing I just wanted to point to lifeztuf - you mentioned improvisations in the Ghulam Ali ghazal. Ghulam Ali is a genius, the once-in-a-lifetime kind, and very few people can sing like him. I actually tried to not improvise in this ghazal. With Ghulam Ali saab, depending on which live performance of his you are used to, the rendition can be very different. In his live performances, he brings in so many variations, esp. to his harkats. I picked the version in one of his albums and tried to stay true to it. Here is the link to the version of 'Dil mein ik lehar' that I sang
http://www.musicindiaonline.com/p/x/BUXpDNfxI9.As1NMvHdW/

The only improvisation that I made was the humming that I did between verses because it would have sounded empty otherwise. And also, one of the variations on 'lehar', I forgot to do it at the end of the first verse so I did it in the second verse instead. Otherwise, I tried to stay true to the above version the best that I could.

Ashish Narvekar:

1. Pinjare waali Muniya: Kudos Ashish. Very well sung.. I felt a lot of energy in your singing👏

2. Dil mein ek leger: Never heard this song before today. But it sounded very sonorous. The peaks and valleys of your surs seemed to be just fine. The murkis in the song sounded just fine as well. Very well sung Ashish.👏.. Overall the performance just seemed to be flowing flawlessly.😛

Seema

1. Hothon mein aisi baat: In my opinion, this was a very difficult song with some very lonnnnnng alaaps. Your voice did seem to crack at higher notes and there was a stop between ooooooooooooooooooooo ----- Shalooo which I believe is not there in the original song but I will overlook that just for the fact that this is a very difficult songs with a lots of peaks and valleys and you did fultoo justice with the song.👏👏👏..Excellent rendition Seema.

2. Jaane ki zid na karo: What a perfect rendition Seema. I specially liked how you transitioned from the last line of every stanza to the line "Aaj Jaane ki zid na karo"... Seemed like there were lots of murkis in between and you perfected each of them. Excellent song...superlative singing..👏👏👏

Sindhu:

1. Jhumka Gira Re: One of the all time hits👏.. Lots of expectations from you because this is one of the songs, we have grown up hearing...aaaannnnnnd.....YOU LIVED UP TO IT.... Awesome singing... Very energetic...I want to ask you something...why did you not sing that punchline "To PHIR KYA HUA"..😆.. I understand it is male voice but I am sure there is a reason you decided to forgo that line...Great singing👏

2. Dil Cheez kya hai: OMG... Another all time favorite.. The starting alaap was awesome..Couple of comments on pronunciation from sombody who is a anaadi listener😳...

a. When you said Deewar-O-Dar it sounded Deewar O Dar... diconnected 3 words.. they are connected..almost like DeewarODar...

b. The word Gaur is pronounced very delicate almost like gHaur (less stress on g and more on H). Hear the song again. I know this because Jaaved Akhtar once commented a singer on it.

Other than these minor faaltu comments, your singing was sould storring as this song is..👏

Aparna:

1. Na Bole Na Bole: Flawless....speechless (I am)👏👏👏. Was difficult to make out the difference b/w the original singer and you Aparna ji.👏👏👏

2. Yun saja chanda ke: never heard this song before. But just listening to your surs, pronunciation and flow, I can easily say.. ANOTHER FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE...👏👏👏

Raju:

1. Nain Lad jainhe: Man... the moment you open your mouth. you win half the battle...👏... what a full throated voice you have👏👏..Never once during the rendition did I get the feeling that you are stealing your voice 👏. The only comment I have is in the end part. I don't know how you could have rectified it but the last 3 lines just seemed disjointed from each other.😃

2. Ai Husn Zaraa: Never heard this song before. As far your voice quality is concerned, I have the same comments as above...full throated and fluent. Your subtle pronunciations were remarkable...like "naghme" instead of "nagme" or "taazey" instead of "taajey"... these are subtle things but are the difference between good and excellent singing... Well done Raju👏👏👏
