A big hello to every avid fans of Saregmapa. I decided to open this topic to let everyone evaluate the singers! I have done my evaluation and it would be fun if everyone joined in! Of course our views will differ and each of us have our favourites but let's compile instead of posting individual topics or putting singers down. I would love suggestions too...!! Let's begin.

If there's a similar topic, please feel free to close this. :)

My views nonetheless... My favourites (ALL-TIME) are Amanat & Poonam!

Do include: Star of the Gharana, Potential Future and Favourite of the Competition.

Gharana: Hit Squad
Mentor: Vishal Shekhar
Star of Gharana: Raja

Junaid

Very Atif Aslam. He can do Sonu Nigam songs well too. The fact that he's cute, has gained him many international supporters. Don't find him so appealing or extrordinary as yet. Have to wait & watch.

His potential future: Definitely rockstar )

Harpreet

He's got a good voice, but not strong vocally compared to the rest. He's good looking! I think he did a pretty good job so far but he doesn't seem to be getting much support. Maybe his voice doesn't have the oOOMph factor.

Potential future: Singer, but not sure if he could do playback singing long run)

Raja

This raja from bikaner has a painful & powerful voice but the voice quality for playback singing, I'm not so sure. His rendition of Teri Deewani could not compete with that of Abrokanti. Sorry for Raja fans. He has done good songs but there's something about him that I feel needs improving. He has forgotten his lines a couple of times if I am not wrong, so somehow, maybe dedication is questionable. In a nutshell, he's a good singer who can capture different emotions of a song easily but I don't know if he can handle the surs and all.

His potential future: Don't laugh, the first thing thought, Wedding Singer. He can give Sukhwinder Singh a run for his money. )

Gharana: Josh
Mentor: Bappi Lahiri
Star of Gharana: Mauli

Mauli

( She is more suited for songs that Sunidhi Chauhan sings.
When she attempts sad songs, she can't seem to capture the pain & depth of the words.
Can we blame her for that because she's from America? I don't know if it's a good excuse.
Hence, she keeps singing songs that are pop & fast beat which make her voice sound so shrilled and she screams a lot. She also does a lot of A.R. Rahman songs because she loves his music.
Her potential future: Pop princess )

Sumedha

( Her voice clarity is brilliant. Sweet & sensual voice, very pleasing to the ears. She soothes the soul.
I doubt her ability to do a fast song, she should attempt again. Her facial expression on the camera,
she frowns sometimes, which makes me wonder if shes comfortable.
Her potential future: Playback singing suits her)

Gharana: Rock
Mentor: Himesh Reshammiya
Star of Gharana: Aneek

Joy

( Very close to those of south-indian singers(Bala Subramaniam & Hariharan.) Very sexy & heavy. His voice has a style that resembles that of Kunal Ganjawala. Doubt his strength vocally because he can be shaky sometimes. Like when he sang Oh Hum Dum Sunyore, the start was good, but deteriorated towards end. I guess he needs to be careful.

His potential future: Rockstar,..I was thinking he should join the Colonial Cousins. Haha)

Mussarat

( Sufi singer to the core. His every attempt to venture into a different genre has raised tension between VS & Himesh. We all know he's the best Sufi singer SRGMP has seen till date but he being voted back so many times can stifle the competition and drop out the actual versatile singers.

His vocal range seemed endless. When he sang Sanwre, it pierced through my heart.

His potential future: Next best thing after Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sab... )

Aneek

( Clarity is his voice and smooth singing. He is very polished. Almost perfect. He's better than Vineet because Vineet had the tendency of letting his breathing be heard. (From what I remember).. But the label attached to Aneek is that his voice is like Sonu's...so I think he should break out of that. And many might not agree with me, but I think you can find a voice like his easily as compared to Amanat Ali & Mussarat.

His potential future: Definite playback singer)

Gharana: Yalgar
Mentor: Ismail Darbar
Star of the Gharana: Poonam

Poonam

( Most powerful singer. I think she has the best vocal range as compared to Mauli & Sumedha. Her voice is very versatile. After she sang Hungama and Tadap Tadap, then recently Rangde, I was blown away. She can also do Jaspinda Narula's type of songs because she can master the pain of words and she makes my hair stand!

Her potential future: Definite playback singer but I think if she worked on her image, perhaps popstar)

Amanat
( Best male voice of the competition. Closely resembling that of Mohd. Rafi sab. I don't know but when he sings, I can weep. He has a smooth voice and he can bring in pain and it completes package. I think he has that kind of voice that can touches you. But recently, he hasn't been performing so well, leading to a likelihood that he might be OUT.

Very well analysed and except for the Harpreet one agree to all. Harpreet too I feel has the potential to become a playback singer. Yes he still needs to work a bit more.

Gharana: Hit Squad

Junaid

The fact that hes cute gets most people to believe he cant sing well, but thats not true at all. I saw him in the middle east muqabla... he was runner up to amanat! hes a very good singer, but a little immature yet, if you know what i mean. i mean he can go really high and stuff but he still has to achieve complete flawlessness in his singing.

His potential future: lead singer of a good rock band like Jal

Harpreet

He's a good singer i guess, but somehow he hasn't managed to capture my attention. He somehow doesn't feel the song 100 %. I don't know, thats just my opinion

Potential future: A limited playback singer (few songs.. not sure)

Raja

A great singer, has been the highest voted contestant 3 times, so that says something about him! he sings well, but i feel his voice may not appeal to all types of songs for playback singing. But he's still excellent.

His potential future: Ummm, he could have his own album, kind of like Kailesh Kher if you know what i mean

Gharana: Josh
Mentor: Bappi Lahiri
Star of Gharana: Sumedha (according to singing, but if we're talking attention grabbing, then its Mauli for sure)

Mauli

Very very limited singer. Not trained and only suited to sing fast songs, with a western twang, that enable her to add her own little variations in the middle (ooh, aah). I don't like her voice quality either, its way too nasal for my liking, and there's no depth to it either. sorry, didnt mean to offend any mauli fans.

Her potential future: Pop princess is right

Sumedha

Beautiful voice quality, something which can enable her to just sing a simple song, and still make it sound amazing. A great singer, too, switches to higher pitches with ease, and can sing most kinds of songs. I really think she has a bright future =)

Her potential future: Playback singing, definitely!

Gharana: Rock
Mentor: Himesh Reshammiya
Star of Gharana: Aneek

Joy

I like his voice quality, and anyone who likes slightly westernised songs will like his voice and way of singing. but i dont think hes a superior singer, and with the competition hes facing, hes one of the lower contestants. Still, he can make a small time career for himself, as he can find a niche audience, who his way of singing appeals to.

His potential future: Pop singer, haha Colonial Cousins is spot on.. he reminds me of Leslie Lewis now that i think of it!

Mussarat

A brilliant Sufi singer, but not very versatile. When he sang typical Bollywood numbers, I always labelled him as a good singer, but not great... until i heard him sing classically ofcourse. So i don't think a career in playback singing is heading his way, but he should become a mini- Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and make his own sufi albums

His potential future: Sufi singer, personal album

Aneek

Excellent singer. when he sings, its almost like he doesn't know how to go off sur! ive never even heard that twinge, when singers tend to go slightly off key, but aneek is brilliant and in complete command of the song!

His potential future: Playback singer all the way!

Gharana: Yalgar
Mentor: Ismail Darbar
Star of the Gharana: Amanat

Poonam

Very very powerful voice. Tadap tadap is a song that men falter with, and being a female (even though its a male-sung song), she did a brilliant job with it, easily going through the higher notes. She's a very trained, competent singer. Only thing is, i sometimes don't like her voice quality, because it seems like shes shouting, in comparison to Sumedhas voice.

Her potential future: Playback singer to some extent, but maybe work on her own album?

Amanat

EXCELLENT singer, i personally feel that sometimes, hes in a league of his own. Classically trained and quite versatile. I love his voice, deep and sounds very suited to ghazals. But he would be excellent in playback singing as well!

His potential future: Playback singer, but should release albums of his own
