Versatality - Is Vishal right? - Page 3

When we have a competition called as "SAREGAMAPA CHALLENGE 2007" and a slogan such as "SANGEET KA PRATHAM VISHWAYUDDH" we expect the contestants to live up to its name. But what we have is "Hindi film songs ka competition".

Fortunately in Hindi film songs we have a rich treasure of musical excellence. It is a genre in itself and has adapted every type of music be it shastriya sangeet, folk, qawwali, ghazal, bhajan, sufi, rock, pop, and of late even latin so on and so forth, with panache thanks to our extremely talented directors, lyricists and singers.

So even though we are not looking for a Bhimsen joshi or M S Subbulaxmi we atleast deserve a singer who can come close to a Mohd Rafi, a Lata mangeshkar or the present generation of singers who are versatile and can render any type of song with elan.

Ultimately the winner should make justice to the title of saregamapa challenge or sangeet ka vishwayudh. Now if Himesh finds a singer lacking in some type songs and already promised him a break for his forthcoming project, why did he bother to pick him up for this competition.

Many singers in the industry are nt versatile.... i believe in using strengths so i wont support vishal in this particular thing.... let all show their strengths and be consistent.... The show is there to produce good singers.... not good versatile singers.... if it gets more than 1 singers expert in different genre... it would be better than getting one singer average in all genres😊

If a singer is good he is bound to be versatile too since it his knowledge and sound musical training that comes to the fore while handling a song and its complexities. Please take the example of Hariharan who can sing classical, ghazal, pop fast numbers superbly with ease and i'm sure we have number of such singers.

If one can sing from all genre then should sing but should not spoil our mood. I will accept one genre specialist than jack of all trades. But if any singer is versatile and sing all kind of songs properly then it is plus and has cutting edge over other. But every singer should be very strong in one genre at least.

I agreed Raja is not versatile singer he can sing only one type song but VS not saying any thing now the time ID and HR should ask to Raja sing classic song.

and I think Himesh is right here... the show did not promise to hunt for a voice which is suitable for alll genres... Vishal is right to some extent... one shud try going out of your boundary then only you get to know how much capable or incapable you are out of your range - since that also counts when the competition is stiff... 😉

If ever Jagjit singhji sings a pop number he would surely beat all the so called pop singers and give them a run for their money. He is a great singer and should not be compared with the Pop singers who are only interested in remixing. Please note that Jagjit ji was a judge on the old version of Saregama(the real one) which used to test the singers on all aspects of singing.

Good singers have always excelled in all styles of singing, don't forget Manna dey, Mohd Rafi, Kishore kumar, Asha bhonsle etc etc
