The sets of Zee's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa recently witnessed a big furore because of participant Koel Chatterjee. The female participant presented a titillating Hindi song and had to face harsh remarks from the judges on her costumes and her song. Consequently, she was eliminated.

According to Koel, the judges were unnecessarily harsh for the sake of the channel's TRPs. She said, "Ismail Darbar told me that I will go a long way with my hot clothes and bold songs. That was really an indecent remark for a judge on national television. I am really disheartened and sad."

Koel sang 'Tere chahat ke jal se' from Aitraaz, which the judges almost unanimously termed as obscene. She was moved to tears on the stage as the judges held the opinion that she used bold clothes and a hot song pointlessly.

Koel said that it was unfair on the part of judges holding those harsh remarks and she has reasons to prove her point. "The song and the costume were all decided by the channel. The song was specially selected by the in-house music director and the creative team. But, on the stage they kept mum about the entire thing and I was the one who was bearing the brunt in front of the audience. Later, they apologised to me backstage and told me that they could not speak up on camera."

Payaol Patel, creative director of the show, defended her team. "The contestant is lying. We never force any participant to choose any particular costume or song. We only supervise. The contestant take the final decision," Payaol said.

Oh my. What about Mauli's hot song and bold clothes. I guess it doesn't matter as long as someone sings well. Has someone heard the lyrics to Maya Maya. They mean the same thing as Rock me Baby. Oh yeah, they are in Urdu so I guess it doesn't matter. Pathetic. Why single this poor girl out just because she didn't sing well.

THey should just not let them sing any song. If you go deep into any love song, excuse me they mean about the same thing.

True, most songs, even older ones, have lyrics and metaphors which imply the same.

Just a week and the controversies have started already. 😕

exactly , this whole thing is stupid. This song was sung by both Ujjani and Himani earlier. I understand that Asha Bhosale is a great singer, but she needs to undestand that it is 2007 not 1968 . Give me a break.. and none of the music director said anything caz they didn't want to go against Ashaji. The whole thing is out of proportion. It is only a song, look at the singing , not the words😡

I know she has conveniently forgotten her rocking, sensous and cabaret numbers of the 70's. I actually respected her for and RD Burman for being progressive for that time. I guess we should make sure the SRGMP singers only sing Bhajans. Maybe she should sing a Bhajan with Bret Lee or some other famous actor and bring Indian culture back into the foregrownd. Isn't she the one that brought Cha, Cha CHa, the spanish culture back into vogue. She should do the same for Indian culture. Of course I am kidding, but that whole episode made me sad.

Song is great but wrong one to sing on the stage... I agree with Asha Ji that it is not the right song to sing..

I remember same thing happened in last year Indian Idol.. during second stage a girl contestant (don't remember her name) sang the same song, she was one of the Hot fav.. but she did not get votes from public and got eliminated from the contest because of the song .. Farah, Sonu n Anu were shocked but came to conclusion that because of the bad choice of song, she did not get thru...

Also Her choice of dress was bad... 😕😕....

My God.. then what about other singers who have sang songs like this and worn those types of clothes? YOu single out just one girl for it ??

Felt bad for Koel, I doubt she is lying, definitely this is not the whole truth of course.... whether or not they said this to raise TRPs, dunno, but.... did feel sad that she had to be singled out in front of everyone. and i think if she was more in sur they would not have criticised her as much either, maybe one of the reasons was because of her singing.

Thanks for the article !! :)
