Dear friends,

Here is a rare musical topic from the K-series friend of yours😉... lols... Though K-Series believes in unlimited Drama... it has first time got this questions.... so I am mentioning them...

Reality shows: What talent they search??

We have seen many reality shows, Few of them seemed genuine while others just remained Dramas. Some genuine reality shows even turned into dramas for the war of TRPs. So what talent they look for. I will specially talk on the musical reality shows.

First of all there are more than required shows in the field today. Apart from Sony, Zee and Star, the less known shows on M TV and some other channels were also aired. Since there is no dearth of channels carrying the shows, every channel likes to put the other channel down. But in doing so they take the help of drama than quality of the purpose of show, here its music. We saw Indian Idol tried to push drama right before beginning as it had the bunch of mediocre contestants. But could they win. Still People preferred the show with better singers i.e. Zee SRGMP. I believe that a show with talented singers and less and sufficient drama will any time win over untalented singers and lots of drama.

okkk after talking blah blah I get to the point.... The Zee Saregamapa before going commercial way, used to audition the people through out India and find some contestants with nice musical knowledge in classical singing. While the format was plain with judges decisions based on sur and taal. While now the auditions are taken for anyone and everyone. Even the singer like me can go for auditions with no chance of selection but I bet a little better singer than me will get selected. Why do the shows have to go audition all the people. Why cant they audition the singers with some training as they used to do. Is it that we dont have such nice singers. Well I dont agree then how were they getting such nice contestants earlier. We definitely have nice trained singers throughout music schools in India. If you want to search the talent you have to search it from music schools. Even the companies takes campuses in colleges with trained professionals.

The way the auditions are taken. While selecting, the judge is already fed up and he selects the mediocre singers, who sang nice item numbers or fast songs, the want of the day. But i really dont think the selection is based on singing at all... They just select the marketing geniuses. So I think the reality shows are more for finding MARKETING PROFESSIONALS than SINGING PROFESSIONALS.

Please dont hesitate to write your views.... Its a real rare topic and very special as its musical topic from none otehr than your K-series friend kabhi_21 aka abhi😉

Simple - they search for the most talented script-writer who can write controversial dialogs for mentors and judges and get the highest TRPs for the show 😛

BTW - good post Abhi 👍🏼

😆 😆 ^^^ agreed!
the fact is, most people watch these shows for the drama. for a person with absolutely zero musical knowledge, the drama is the key element in the show...
i don't remember much about the saregamapa earlier, coz i was too small, but i did remember my parents watching it faithfully every morning in the weekend. it did have a better selection process.
as you mentioned above, there is no point auditioning people who haven't learnt music becoz in the end neway a trained singer will always be better than someone who hasn't trained. talent counts, but its of no use if not honed properly..
but then, auditioning everyone connects with the audience, in the way that they feel that even they can go and sing even if they haven't really taken serious training..drama, sympathy, everything counts in that ultimate voting process, which is the main audience puller (the voting i mean..) if the most popular contestant wins, the audience feel as if THEY have chosen him, and he's THEIR discovery, and it leads to more interest in the show..All this in general terms..most of us in the forum do know a lot about music, but then, majority of the audiences does not. In the end, i guess its more of a blend of spiced up drama and soome good singing which ultimately leads to the TRPs.
But one sad aspect, none of these shows can yet find that one "Great Singer"...

Great article from K-Series!👍🏼

Well, reality shows have certainly taken over in N. America. Soaps etc. are not rated high nowadays. Some reality shows like Survivor's are unique here.

As for a show like SRGMP, yes that is true for now its become more of a commercial show than a real talent hunt. But I think still it comes up with singers like Nihira, Hemu, Debo etc. They say Kamal grows in muddy waters...... Hopefully that will continue to happen with good talent that they too will shine above the rest and make a name for themselves.😛

Hmmm....... now I am gonna try hard to make you listen to the Retros ok ji?😉 😆😆 K-series eh!!😆 Good one😆

Yes I agree Abhi..... but I was just referring to the C2005 contestants. We have shows recorded from Sonu days of SRGMP and there is great talent out there. Somehow C2007 contestants from India donot seem to have that zing....... but perhaps its too early to comment after just a couple of episodes.

Nice AV...... new Star kya!😉 😆😆 J K

4 pseudo-stars as judges, 1 pseudo-anchor, loads of semi-clad dancers and hip-shakers, a medley of average singers - add to it a generous dosage of contrived emotion and pretentiousness and you end up with a musical reality show !!!

In short, a reality show is nothing but a fake, manipulative show that falls way short of realities !!!
