IMO, india is yet not ready for the actual reality shows the way US or other countries might be.So the shows are more or less scripted and thrown as reality for gaining the votes.
so if your show is based on votes then it sounds more practical and logical to select the contestants having different appeal like say for instance, Rajiv had a mass appeal ...paresh was a charmer...hema was a trained singer...nihira sounded professional.. twinkle had X-factor and so on...
infact dunno abt SRGMP but II actually go to remote places to hunt trying to get hold of atleast one contestant for the sympathy votes.. remember that guy Ravi..
so in and in these shows are more focussed on garnering more and more chatpatta stuff which helps the melodrama pot boiling !!

ps: i am just sticking to the so called musical reality shows.

In short, a reality show is nothing but a fake, manipulative show that falls way short of realities !!!

😉 😉 😉

😆 in fact it goes close to reality that only drama sells😉

They are not marketing professionals, that is not appropriate term. But they are marketable commodity. Singers(???) are being used by channels to make money....

You can not say they were getting nice contestants earlier, SRGMP has produced only 2 singers in 10+ years before C2005. Earlier contestants used to sing old melodious songs, so people who like melodious songs will always say earlier shows were better. Music has evolved a lot in last 5-7 years and these talent shows are keeping themselves with pace of changes. Quality of contestants are still same--IMO. In current scenario at least they are getting better exposure, atleast we can see them TV even after 2 years....

yeah you are right as to they are marketing products than marketing professionals😆.... but i dont think the quality of the contestants is the same right now.....

If SRGMP has produced two good singers in 10 years, then you can say only the deserved singers went ahead.... while now the mediocre singers are thrown in to the market with this reality shows and the public is forced to listen to them through hype.... I still believe that C 2005 top 5 were really well and they may be of the quality SRGMP used to have earlier.... but I have not seen even one contestant thereafter who can be said close to those😊

thanks for your opinion jadooji

okkk after talking blah blah I get to the point.... The Zee Saregamapa before going commercial way, used to audition the people through out India and find some contestants with nice musical knowledge in classical singing. While the format was plain with judges decisions based on sur and taal. While now the auditions are taken for anyone and everyone. Even the singer like me can go for auditions with no chance of selection but I bet a little better singer than me will get selected. Why do the shows have to go audition all the people. Why cant they audition the singers with some training as they used to do. Is it that we dont have such nice singers. Well I dont agree then how were they getting such nice contestants earlier. We definitely have nice trained singers throughout music schools in India. If you want to search the talent you have to search it from music schools. Even the companies takes campuses in colleges with trained professionals.

The way the auditions are taken. While selecting, the judge is already fed up and he selects the mediocre singers, who sang nice item numbers or fast songs, the want of the day. But i really dont think the selection is based on singing at all... They just select the marketing geniuses. So I think the reality shows are more for finding MARKETING PROFESSIONALS than SINGING PROFESSIONALS.

Please dont hesitate to write your views.... Its a real rare topic and very special as its musical topic from none otehr than your K-series friend kabhi_21 aka abhi😉

maybe the days of sur-taal are over, may these kids are realizing it is better to be on-stage performers(meaning showing off more talents than singing😉), anyways what does sur-taal buy you? 20k/song that too in a market that is more crowded than the 8.03 Churchgate Fast?

There is more gratification, more name recognition, more money in being a stage performer, then why do the ghesa peta routine of sur-taal😉

so that is what we have Performers, no standing in line and singing like a a peice of wood.

are nahi jaadoooji.... he is not my favourite singer but favourite client.... remember the law suit😉.... see its because of the mediocre singers all around that his songs are getting hits😆.....

we have few singers like shaan and sonu... but they are nt singing much now a days.... and what shaan is singing they are also fast numbers.... so definitely the music is forced upon people to dance on them..... i mean only one genre coming up that is dance numbers.... and in that pritam and HR excel😆

Reality shows reflect the realities of life - that talent alone is not sufficient to get you to the top. You need proper representation, hard work, support, luck, and a lot more. Like in life, being attractive can get you a long way. Also, where you are from or what religious beliefs you hold can also make a difference in the minds of people.

We don't consider the real world to be ideal. Why should we consider a reality show to be ideal then?

Good topic Abhi,

As you said, good singer with little drama will raise trp's more than the bad singers(with high X factor) with lot of drama...I am sure people who go out there are looking for the best singers and if the X factor is also present than it is a big bonus..if they don't get a great singer, the next choice will be average singer with huge X factor....after all they are in this buisness to make money and it is their rozi roti..

Now what is the standard we are measuring the quality of the singers with ..Is it Mohd Rafi or Kishore Kumar..I feel these kind of singers come once in a century ...it may be a little less than that 😉 😃

I heard singer Kailash Kher has been singing in trains..India with majority of the country so poor, the child labour so rampant..majority of the children don't get a chance to go to a School..I feel it is a great idea to go deep in the heart of India and try to find the musical talent..I agree students in musical schools with classical background also can be a great and easy source to find some refreshing talent..
