Besides Mauli's Maya maya, I found the Mujse Shaidi Karogi guy's [Mushe Shadu] funny πŸ˜†

Pakistani singers: All barring Wassi were merely average. Wassi had a strong control over tone, tune, beat, pitch and modulation. There is definitely scope for improvement, as always, but of the four, he was the strongest.

Totally agree.. Wassi was the best of the lot.. he had a very strong control on his voice.. The song he chose was quite tough (singing a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan song is never easy) and he never faltered... I wish him all the luck to improve further

The rest 3 - Junaid, Sikander and Mussarat - were merely average singers. Each one of them has a long way to go in regards to controlling their sur, pitch and modulation. Mussarat was positively screaming and forcing himself while singing.

Again agree here... Junaid was plain avg without any punch and no control on sur.. Sikandar and Mussarrat were better on the higher notes.. but very very flat on the lower notes... I just think they have to sing a lot better to prove a point in the contest

Should I have been surprised that there were no female contestants from Pakistan?

Dubai singer: Amanat was decent. His start was rocky... the sur was off, the pitch and modulation were weak. As he finished up the song however, he sounded like he could be strong competition for Wassi. I do admire the "harkates" he took with the song.. takes guts and he pulled them off well. (I retract my comment about harkates from my review of the last epi).

I think Amanat was the best on the contest so far 😳 He had a very silky voice and did wonderfully on a difficult song.. I think he is going to go a long way in the contest...

US singer: Mauli... oh golly! I'm in quite the minority when I say that I quite frankly don't see what everyone is fida over! πŸ˜• She's just about average; she has decent control over sur, but voice modulation, pitch control and appropriately placing the harkates are weak. Not to mention she's puting an inordinate amount of effort to sing this one song... (granted this is a rather complicated composition). She seems most comfortable doing the arabic portions which are soft and syllables strung together at a fast-pace.

Finally - someone who found her singing weak πŸ˜› So far, I seemed to be one of the very few people here, who thought that she is overhyped and people are going all gaga over nothing... I thought she lost sur, rhythm and was more of facial expressions than voice expressions... She seems to be terribly overrated if we consider that its just a singing contest πŸ˜•

London singer: Surprise, surprise! Himesh's choice was from England. To be fair, Yogesh (right?) did a fair job of the song and I'm rather glad he didn't try to emulate HR. While his singing was fine, there was nothing extraordinary about it. I'll reserve my comments on HR coming up and singing the song again πŸ˜• πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜†

Frankly - I did not like the singer.. and I anyway dont like the song too.. so couldnt care much how Himesh repeated the song to put in expressions into the song!

VS gharana choice: Kaun hai? πŸ˜•

Eklavya gharana: I honestly thought some of the people in this gharana (esp the first two, were far better than some of the singers in the "real" gharanas πŸ˜• Who knows what role Eklavya plays in all of this.

Agree - I think Sayan and Sumana from this gharana are lot lot better than some others in the main gharanas

I think the strongest singer so far has been Wassi. Rest have a long way to go in terms of the technical aspects of singing. Not a single one is comparable to Hema yet ... πŸ˜” I miss him! 😳

I will go for Amanat here though 😊 Wassi comes a close second.

Thanks for your response and comments Jayadi 😊 I'm glad to note that my evaluation wasn't completely off 😳 πŸ˜† After having listened to the show again, I will only change my comments in regards to Amanat. He did start of wavering, but picked up and was fantastic. I can't choose between Wassi and Amanat. And since I am notorious for the underdog, in this case I'll support Wassi.
You're exactly right in regards to Mauli. Facial expressions do not pull of a song. We'll wait and see how she does. Do you think she'll do better in softer numbers or the "beedi jalailes"? I actually think she'll fare better in the former.

@ mdroy ... thank you for stopping by and reading through my comments 😳 😊 If you have anything more to add, I would love to hear from you. 😊

actually the first day there was a guy Sunil or something. i thought he was the best out of the entire lot. i dont think he'll win this silly competition given how people react, but i'd bet on him away from the competition because i think he has something of the gurdas mann singing and presence about him.

good review all the same Simi. similar impressions as what u have there

πŸ˜• I'll have to revisit my first thread for Mr. Sunil as well. Names + faces, as if I didn't have enough to remember πŸ˜†

I'm still sticking by Wassi for now. I do remember I liked someone (male) from the first epi, but can't remember who at the moment.
