5/5/07 - Simi's Brief Review

This is not going to anywhere near as detailed as lengthy as the previous review. I just don't have the time or energy for it... I know, you're all oh so disappointed 😛 😆

Pakistani singers: All barring Wassi were merely average. Wassi had a strong control over tone, tune, beat, pitch and modulation. There is definitely scope for improvement, as always, but of the four, he was the strongest.

The rest 3 - Junaid, Sikander and Mussarat - were merely average singers. Each one of them has a long way to go in regards to controlling their sur, pitch and modulation. Mussarat was positively screaming and forcing himself while singing.

Should I have been surprised that there were no female contestants from Pakistan?

Dubai singer: Amanat was decent. His start was rocky... the sur was off, the pitch and modulation were weak. As he finished up the song however, he sounded like he could be strong competition for Wassi. I do admire the "harkates" he took with the song.. takes guts and he pulled them off well. (I retract my comment about harkates from my review of the last epi).

US singer: Mauli... oh golly! I'm in quite the minority when I say that I quite frankly don't see what everyone is fida over! 😕 She's just about average; she has decent control over sur, but voice modulation, pitch control and appropriately placing the harkates are weak. Not to mention she's puting an inordinate amount of effort to sing this one song... (granted this is a rather complicated composition). She seems most comfortable doing the arabic portions which are soft and syllables strung together at a fast-pace.

London singer: Surprise, surprise! Himesh's choice was from England. To be fair, Yogesh (right?) did a fair job of the song and I'm rather glad he didn't try to emulate HR. While his singing was fine, there was nothing extraordinary about it. I'll reserve my comments on HR coming up and singing the song again 😕 😉 😆

VS gharana choice: Kaun hai? 😕

Eklavya gharana: I honestly thought some of the people in this gharana (esp the first two, were far better than some of the singers in the "real" gharanas 😕 Who knows what role Eklavya plays in all of this.

I think the strongest singer so far has been Wassi. Rest have a long way to go in terms of the technical aspects of singing. Not a single one is comparable to Hema yet ... 😔 I miss him! 😳

Thanks a lot Simi. Nice to know other people's opinion and I agree mostly with you. What did you think of the Ganguli gal.... Somaya something? I would love to her your views.

I also agree that Eklavya Gharana had a couple of good singers. What is the purpose of this Gharana is a mystery to me.

Arey yaar... un threads ke bheed me main gumna nahi chaahti thi 😉 I haven't even read the other threads to be honest 😳 I didn't want to go into listening to the show with preconceptions...waise bhi I was being inundated with opinions left and right. Granted it's the 3rd thread in so many days... lekin hopefully kuch alag nazraane se pesh kiya hai apne khayaal and maybe other's thoughts and perceptions have changed as well. 😳

By the way while you are at giving reviews...how about visiting the Round 7 Feed back thread also...! Our IF participants can do well with your candid and to the point feedbacks...😛
😲 I do believe there was a compliment somewhere in there 😳 It's so much easier to be candid about strangers though na 😉 Lord knows what feathers I might ruffle with my ... pointed statements and thoughts 😉 😛 Mauka milega to zaroor karungi... it being the last day of classes though, that might not be possible in the immediate future 😆

Waise, nothing in response to what I've written? Where are the musically inclined yaar? 😕 Main to yahan andhere me baatein kar rahi hoon... my ignorance is on display for all and yet no comments back. I am very interesting in seeing if I was anywhere close to being right about my assessment, etc. 😳

I seriously thought Sikandar was the best of them all...His rendition of the Gangster song was quite moving and he was one who reminded me of Hema (the gravity of his voice). Maybe I am biased because he sang the Gangster song which are some of my fav songs.

@Females from Pak!! Did you notice that there were several female contestants during audition..yet 0/4....that's indeed nagging

I disagree and agree. Disagree at your analysis of her rendition of the Maiyya Maiyya song. I thought her rendition of this song was outstanding. Her voice truly filled the hall and my heart like onone else's. Agree that she has to prove herself beyond the items songs. As an example I am pretty sure that she will rock the Beedi Jalai Le song. I am not sure if she can do justice to say as an example any of the melodious Shreya Ghoshal songs..😛

You found Mauli average, Amanat decent, but the UK guy fair. Are you sure you watched the same episode Simi and not something else? 😛

BTW, if you don't want Adi chasing you with a gun, then stop finding errors with her cowgirl. 😛 😛
