Sinha Ji,
I cant say those words today, for a couple of years ago, I rued that those days are over and here are these days, which have come to stay.
I remember watching a few initial episodes of Challenge, and got a bit put off by the antics of the on screen mentors. I did prefer the Indian Idol show, as the Judges were purely that - Judges. But the tamasha which the show created, when one of the contestants took ill (Amit Sana and his "throat infection") turned the tables on the other contestant. Amit and Rahul were both good in their own right and Amit did not sound as if his voice was strained, but there was a huge drama abut it and what followed the next week was a vote out of Rahul in the sympathy wave for Amit Sana. I too got flowed away in the outburst of emotions on my fav contestant being voted out and voted with a vengence against Amit Sana, at the risk of voting for a "kabhi haan, kabhi naa" sur Abhijeet Sawant. It mattered not to whom my vote went, as long as it was one against Sana.
And at the end of it I realised that if even I could succumb to my anger and ire, and do negative voting, the same is with the other public, on whose emotions the Channels, the journos, the publicists, the producers all prey upon.
My journey on SRGMP stopped then and I did not really watch the show. This time around too, I wasnt keen, but being on the section, reading Anu's updates, I got hooked and could not resist the words written for Diwakar.
Today, I read that there was mass voting in WB. There is nothing wrong with it legally, but is it ethically right, is it right for the talent show.
Legally, if a producer says that a member of public can vote as many times as he wants, and then has a silent rule that no more than 20 votes per sim will be accepted (like in Nach Baliye) we can sue the producers for misrepresentation.
But when the producer makes it very clear that it is for you to cast as many votes as you want and spend your money on a contestant of your choice, and permit you to adopt any and all tactics of voting for the contestant, then he is not guilty of misrepresenation, as he has placed all facts at the disposal of the voting public.
