Jaya, what is the contribution of Shyamal Mitra and Kanu Roy to the Bengali music? Do they command same level of respect as Salilda amd Hemantda? Kanu Roy gave us some great songs by Geeta Dutt (his sister) and Manna Dey for Anubhav and Avishkaar.

Chalo bhai, ab woh sub conditions relax kar deta hun. Lets discuss about the composers that are lesser known in general of any era. Lets just leave out the big names like Naushad, C. Ramchandra........that I mentioned in my first post and discuss about the rest.

Sometimes we come across a song by a little known composer which is so beautiful, so unique that we wonder how this person vanished without recognition!

One such song is "gham ki andheri raat mein dil ko na bekaraar kar" from Sushila composed by C Arjun. I have heard that Madan Mohan loved this song so much that he wished he had composed it.

Salil'ji - Both Hemant'da and Shyamal Mitra are lot better known for their playback singing in Bengali film and non-film music.. Ofcourse again, Hemant'da is the main playback singer in bengali cinema.. But Shyamal Mitra also has some huge hits to his credit...

I am not much aware of Kanu Roy's contribution to Bengali cinema. If someone can throw a light, it will be wonderful. As u said, his tunes for Anubhav, Avishkaar and even Grihapravesh were really brilliant...

I don't know much about Sudhir Phadke except for 2 songs: Jyoti Kalash Chhalke and Lau Lagaati both from Bhabhi ki Chudiyan and both of these are so magnificient that they make the listeners bow their heads with reverence!

excellent topic salilu...i think all mds are covered...i dont know about snehal bhatkar,g s kohili,raghunath seth,iqbal qureshi,sn tripathi..and one film 'didiby sudha malhotra..

ustad vilayat khan(kadambari)and ravi shankar(godaan and anuradha) are not lesser known..but did few films....
