Legendary and veteran filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee bid adieu to life on August 27 after protracted illness at the age of 84. He was one of the best directors Bollywood has ever had. The film industry condoled his death describing him as a man who left an unforgettable mark on Indian cinema with his style of direction and view of life. He had directed several memorable movies Anadi, Anuradha, Anupama, Chupke Chupke, Golmaal, Bawarchi, Namak Haraam, Mili, Sadma,Guddi, Anand, Abhimaan, Khubsoorat and Satyakam among many others. He won the coveted Filmfare awards, National Awards, Dadasaheb Phalke award and Padmavibhushan.

Actor-turned filmmaker Amol Palekar who had worked with him in quite a number of films says, "His films carried the Hrishida stamp and he was there in every frame. I had the honour to work in his films and I can say that the experience was memorable. I am proud that I got to work with him."

Rajesh Khanna acted in his career best film like 'Anand and 'Bawarchi' directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee said, "Mukherjee will be with us forever. Every morning, I will remember him and the thoughts he gave me. Hrishida will continue to live in us for ever."

Amitabh Bachchan started on the path to superstardom with his films 'Anand' and 'Abhimaan' and was full of regards for him. "Hrishida was like a father figure to me and Jaya. Working with him was an unbelievable experience because his style of filmmaking was never to compromise on quality and on the story ideas. He never pandered to any baser instincts, and he set his own path, which was neither too artistic nor too commercial. I will have to admit that most of the interesting characters I played have been in films that were made by him - be it Anand or Mili or Chupke Chupke or Bemisal or Namak Haram or Jurmana."

For Dharmendra Hrishikesh Mukherjee holds a very special place. They have worked in beautiful films like Anupama, Guddi, Chupke Chupke and Satyakam. He admires him saying, "The industry has lost a very big director and I have lost my beloved brother. One of the reasons why people like his films is because the characters were true to life. Each has a special meaning and is quite different from the rest. I have not seen a director with such variety."

Hrishikesh Mukherjee had the making of a great director ever since he started out. He was a brilliant director and directed directorially rich 42 Hindi movies from 1950s till the 1980s. The films regaled the audience and could make them laugh and cry all at once. We revive back the masterpieces he has created than can never be replicated, but can only inspire us.

Anupama (1966)
Hrishikesh Mukherji brand of cinema established itself with this film that gives a look into an estranged father-daughter relationship. With love, humour, heartbreak, the film was embellished and enhanced with his typical style.

Satyakam (1969)
The team of Anupama comprising Hrishikesh, Sharmila and Dharmendra repeated again for this film, which was Dharmendra's first home production 'Satyakam'. It was one of the experimental films of Hrishida and one of the best performances of Dharmendra till date.

Anand (1971)
Hrishida made this film when he was at the pinnacle of his career. With this Rajesh Khanna delivered what is arguably the best performance of his career. Though it touched upon a melodramatic theme, he laced it with lighter moments balancing the emotion.

Guddi (1971)
Hrishida gave Jaya Bhaduri a break from the stereotype with 'Guddi' playing a scrumptiously simple, girl-next-door look, steering her to stardom. He gave a simplistic view to the Mumbai's film world and Jaya Bhaduri embellished it with her natural performance. Hrishida won with the characterization – giving due to the lead and character artist as well, which was one of his patent style.

Abhimaan (1973)
Abhimaan mirrored the relationship between a married couples in the same profession with ego problems after the wife becomes more successful than the husband. Hrishida gave a humanistic view to the story and Amitabh and Jaya seethed it with intense performance.

Team of MIO pays tribute to the legendary Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
