A very personal opinion here again, If someone is unable to respect the purity in that music, has no qualms in just copying verbatim the creative work of another (I am for the moment assuming that he is copying stuff copied by another), I find it difficult to continue to listen to that person thereafter.

Taking the case of Anu Malik or HR or some others, who have blatantly lifted tunes and songs and have NO or ZERO creative work of their own, I find it difficult to listen to their songs without being reminded of the original and believe me, in todays age of internet, it is not so difficult to trace out the one from which the new has been copied.

Why not hear the original, when you can. Why listen to a copy.

You are right as usual, but the point i have been trying to make is, we hear a good piece- then we go in retrospect to try to trace the original source or we hear someone cry foul later.

If our guys had not made these chart toppers how many of us would have heard Ya Ghali, the Arab number or how many of us have access to GOOD foreign music to listen to the original as you say?

The common man cannot spend hours searching for exotic music from exotic places.

Its wrong no doubt but for me, as you wrote earlier , i am happy they brought these good songs from places i would never access.

True. And agreed as well.

Just want these guys who set out to copy from such exotic locales, do us the courtesy of giving credit where it is due. This way, they do justice to both the original creator of the music/ song as well as to the common man by also giving an option to get educated on the music.

it is a great thread..and wonderful dicussion..sometimes it is good to agree to disagree...normally people print articles, everybody thanks them and the thread disappears...
discussing contestants/judges in a thread normally turns more volatile....

Agree whole heartedly.

Maybe we should restart the trend of actually discussing every thing and putting in our thoughts into the thread after writing Thanks 😃

Why watch a clone when you can watch Sachin Tendulkar play cricket?

Many times the copy is better than the original - as in Ya Ali. Many times you don't understand the original, but understand the copied version as it is in your language.

That's like telling grade 4 kids - why read abridged Shakespeare novels when you can read the original complex version.

I, for one, started off reading abridged, simple English versions (written by different authors) - and then I could understand the story behind Macbeth and move on to the original work. If I had started with the original work without knowing the story behind Macbeth, I wouldn't have made heads or tails of it.

Shady, even then, when you read the abridged version of Macbeth, you knew that this is an abridged version of the original Shakespearen work.

If you see, I have agreed that sometimes, sitting in different parts of the world, we may not be able to know the different music which is released, and as you said, we may not understand the lyrics and thereby making it difficult for us to understand them.

But if the person who is adapting the music or who has copied the music gives a lil note of acknowledgement to the original author OR to the author from whom he has been inspired or copied or adapted, it gives the liberty to the listener to explore the original if he so choses to.

By copying without giving credit to the original, you are passing off someone elses work as your own, which is most definitely a crime.

Plagiarism!!! In music?

Well, all music is plagiarised - from the 7 surs.

Every person distorts things to his own advantage. There is never a dearth of loopholes - however stringent are the rules - there is always an excuse. Thankyou dear pal, Mr. EXCUSE. When we say it is plagiarism, they say it is inspiration. When we say it is copy, they say it is creative liberty....it continues.

Now, let us look at it this way: Say, there is an original(?) work in a 'foreign' language. How that foreigner (the creator) going to loose if his tune gets copied? He will always remain in records as the creator, thanks to the guy who timely invented calendar. Now, even if a tune is copied from the same language, people (I don't know but it stands true with me) start hating the second (copied) version instinctively (God's way you say?) Now, the problematic people are those who know more than one language and perchance know the same that involved the original and copied versions. Believe me, they are not much. We can bear them.

Now, who actually is the true culprit of plagiarism is the guy named Mr. REMIX.
Think something about him. I am also at work 🤔
