I agree with this. The prosecution is unnecessarily playing a waiting game to delay our client a speedy justice.
I also have to mention being an independant defense counsel lawyer, that the defendant (my client) is only playing by the rules of the game. Everyone knows that only the fittest will survive ... and if it means adapting to the environment so be it. Everything boils down to this basis of human existence (infact the whole of animal kingdom as well).
Music is an art but in the erstwhile present era, it is a profession where you have to make music sell to feed yourself and to feed the people who thrive on the music industry. In adhering to the art form (and nuances of classical music / western music / pure unadulterated Indian music), if it results in starvation and extinction of life, the basis of survival is violated. My client has just done what the situation demanded to be. The prosecution speaks of Jatin-Lalit as an example of the true champions of music, however if you look at the current day scenario, the duo has split, the music has gone haywire and survival for the 'legendary' music duo has become a matter of concern. Now is that the true objective of music ... if you yourself don't survive how does your music survive ?
The prosecution has raised the issue of music as an art where any kind of corruption is not to be allowed. I challenge the prosecution on this very fact. Who will decide whether music should be looked upon as an art form not to be tampered with or as a profession where you have to mend for yourself ? If it's the former, I request the government to provide for financial and other aids to the musicians and people will get pure 'unadulterated' music with no 'inspirations' from the west. Even my client will adhere strictly to the 'Ragas' as he demonstrated aptly in 'Banaras'. Else if music continues to remain a profession where you need to make money and essentially survive on your income, it will go with the flow of time. If the present society demands inspiration and mixes and beats to be incorporated in the modes of music, it will be done for the chief reason of survival of the fittest. Marketing and any other policy that has been followed by my client has only been part of the same game. It cannot be debated as illegal or immoral.
