Thanks Saad'ji... your username was a little difficult to remember and type 😊

But, we never got to hear your opinion on this topic

Well, to tell you the truth, sometimes it's a little hard for me to tell when someone is being nasal or not; maybe there is that certain "ring" in their voice that becomes very evident. I heard some members say that Kumar Sanu is very nasal, but I always thought he wasn't that nasal?😕 But anyways😉..........

In my opinion, singers could be nasal at times, as long as they don't sound too annoying to the ears. For example, you pointed out that Udit Narayan (my favorite singer😊) is nasal sometimes, and yes you are right. But when he is nasal, for some reason it isn't annoying at all (not to be baised), because his voice is so unique and different, that being a little nasal here and there doesn't grab the magic out of him, yet I feel it adds sprinkles to the ice cream(his voice).

What I am trying to say is, is that being a lil nasal here and there is passable for some singers, because their "voice quality" suits it, while for other singers, it doesn't really suit them.

Sorry for being so verbose😉

EDIT: you don't need to put a "ji" in the end, I am only 20.😉

I have a question 😛

As a singer ages, is it harder for them to hit higher notes ? Is this because of the aging of the vocal cords? Is this inevitable? If this is true, is this why some elder singers might sing a little through their nose, to hit those higher notes? Who know's maybe I answered my own question 😆

i like the different types of voices there are out there and sometimes a nasal twang can be a refreshing change although i think we've all learnt not to sing the entire song through our nostrils 😆

As people age their vocal chords and the uvula [the little hanging piece at the back of the throat] start to thicken and get fleshier. This restricts both these parts from vibrating as freely as they would in someone younger. The slow vibration rate interferes with the ability to hit high notes.

Other than aging any ENT infection, smoking or excessive yelling, like at a ball games can causes these two parts to swell as well leading to a temporary thickening or loss of the voice.
