Wow, I was just about to write this one in Telugu and was checking the past pages if this was already there or not. I love this song.

Thanks Aruna.

I was actually blushing when I was trying to translate. Had to be as discrete as possible.

It was tastefully picturized though.

Movie Name: Nizhalgal (1980)
Singer: Balasubramanyam S P
Music Director: Ilayaraja
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
Year: 1980
Theme: Beauty

pon maalai pozhudhu
idhu oru pon maalai pozhudhu
vaana maghaL naaNugiRaaL
vaeRu udai poonugiRaaL

Its evening. The sky, personified as a woman, is shy because she is changing her dress from evening to night ( Vairamuthu mentioned in an interview that the redness in the sky signifies her blushing!).

aayiram niRangaL jaalamidum
raathiri vaasalil koalamidum
vaanam iruvukku paalamidum
paadum paRavaigaL thaaLamidum
poo marangaL saamarangaL veesaadho

The arrival of dusk is marked by a thousand colors. Kolangal (Rangoli) are drawn at night's doorstep(or is it "the night draws kolangal at our doorstep"?). The sky lays a bridge to the night to the accompaniment of chirping birds. The flower trees sway as saamarangal(those feathery things that the guards fanned the king with to keep him cool in olden days).

vaanam enakkoru bhoadhi maram naalum enakkadhu saedhi tharum
oru naal ulagam needhi perum thirunaal nigazhum thaedhi varum
kaelvigalaal vaelvigalai naan seyvaen

The sky is like the Bhodhi tree (under which Buddha sat to get wisdom)
It gives me enlightenment
One day the world gets justice
The time for a festival arrives

I question life's ways, I create an uproar (over things that are wrong, in an effort to strike a new path...)

This is my daughter's fav song...I sing it to cheer her up. Never fails. Transalation will not do this song any justice.

Hats off to the lyricist on this creation.. 😉

Hey Tanisha. Yes, these songs have really meaningful lyrics. The songs themselves are nice melodies, so do listen to them (even if u don't understand the language).

Well, the last one, I posted was purely comical!
